What I seen here is someone who has a lack of experience, in a rollback especially, and that is OKAY, he got the job done, and most importantly he didn’t cut corners in terms of his safety, and that’s what matters most here. I can mention 100+ ways he could have done it better, and much faster here, but that’s not the point, he overall got the job done with minimal damage to the vehicle, and made it home safely that night. The inexperience shows, but he knows his steps in terms of safety very well, and that is the most important thing for him to know. At this point in his career, experience will come in time. We learn things every day, as long as we keep our mind open to do so. Great job Ethan, you learned a lot and called out your bad ideas, you are doing a great job young man, keep up the safe work, you will do well.

A heartfelt, thank you. I wish others could see Ethan the way you do, rather than being so critical of him. Experience is learned and earned. As you said, he knows the basics and the safety factors. Now he needs to grow his confidence. Jobs like this are learning experiences. Life isn't easy. Jobs aren't easy. Relationships aren't easy. None of us are perfect. Perseverance, humility, and the ability to learn from our mistakes are all things that help us become better people. Again, a very heartfelt thank you. May God bless you and yours.

Well done. I too could see couple places where things could have been done somewhat differently but he's hasnt had a "ton" of experience yet. The car is on the bed, no damage and working against the bad road odds, Id give him a 9.999 out of 10.

Nothing wants to go on, or stay on #15 in this video. It's amazing how much easier it seems with the remote vs having to run back to the controls all the time - whether it be being able to steer or hold the brake or whatever. You can feel the frustration - good work sticking it through and not losing your cool and getting the job done Ethan.

The “ Zips Side Puller Recovery Tool” which inserts and bolts into those mount holes in the end of the deck makes situations like these SO much easier! It’s my favorite tool for flatbed by far. You leave your deck all the way slid forwards and locked in which also saves the extra stress on your deck from trying to snatch block with an extended deck. The tool also creates a bit of up angle pull which helps to get it over the apex of embankments.

On a different note: That is situation is exactly what skates where made for, when you need to go in a different direction than what the tires are pointed. I have a set of nylon but wood works as well. Put them under the tires and they slide as the name would imply. If you get a good set you can practically push the vehicle around by hand. They do make the ones with wheels on them, but I don't particularly like them and would rather not use them because in some situations they roll too easy if you know what I mean. Plus the wood or nylon wedges can be made easily in a home shop with a band saw or jig saw.
@timdouglass98317 ай бұрын
I know Ron's used skates before, and I thought of them on this one as well. I'm guessing that they are used rarely enough that Ethan just didn't think of them.

Great job Ethan!! Nice comeback to the Officer on the D.O.B. 😂 I see so much of your DAD in you from your voice to your actions doing the job you are learning everyday more things every time you go out on a call and applying those skills to the job you will get more experience as you go through life every day but the main thing is you are learning new things the best way that you can possibly learn it and by the best teacher and that is O.J.T. the best way to learn it is by doing it. Keep up the good work Ethan!! Ron might want to consider having rechargeable batteries for the remotes and a charger with spare battery charged in the cab to swap out quickly when the battery dies or regular replacement batteries to swap out with or check and see if maybe they have gotten wise and made a replacement rechargeable remote for that model yet because dying remotes not working when you need them to is the pitt's hope you can come up with a solution to that problem to end it. And yes you've done a wonderful job teaching Ethan the ropes of the job and his family values show too. As time goes on he'll get the experience he needs and other skills too. And then like you he will be able to take over for his DAD like you did for your DAD and settle in to the command chair at the Company.

I'm 70 Ron and still learning everyday about things. Yup made my fair share of mistakes along with doing something the hard more than once. But I as you sit back and learn from those endeavors and strive to not repeat ourselves. Where you have the advantage on me is you record most of your stuff and can take a look again at what you did and learn from it or see you did the right thing. Old Fire Chief told me once after a big fire that he would attack it the same way if he had to do it again unless in the meantime he learned a better way to do so. He pointed out it's always easier for the next guy to say you did it wrong but remember he wasn't there and had the privilege of looking at the situation for maybe a number of days and wasn't having to decide right this minute what to do. Claiming to be perfect is the biggest mistake one can make in their life and saying you never did make a mistake is the second one.@@RonPratt
