Mr. T - I (pardon my french) fucking hated installing this one especially since the instructions were so vague and it failed to specify a lot of important information. Mine ended up covering one of my RAM slots so I guess if that stick goes bad then I have to do this all over again.

I just ordered the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler from Newegg. It was just delivered and I installed it today on my Intel LGA 1156. They slightly modified the kit. There were black spacers to add to the front side of the Motherboard between the standoff's and nuts. I tried to follow this video exactly and the bracket wouldn't reach the standoffs. I double-checked my instructions and noticed it said to install the spacers. I did that and the install went smooth the 2nd time. Still super helpful during my install. Thanks for the video!

My stomach dropped when you had to put a plate on the back side of the motherboard. I hate doing this crap but my CPU is burning up, so it's either completely disassemble my machine for this one single component or let my CPU burn. Yeah, thinking of just letting it burn.

Thank you SO much for this video! I'm doing my first build and installing this CPU cooler has been the most confusing of the entire build. I was wondering what the fan brackets were for, and the rubber pads ... nothing explained that they were for an extra fan until you did. And positioning the mounting bracket, the adjustments on it, were better shown on your video than any other I've looked at. Thumbs up!

Ronsanut, Your video was VERY helpful as a CPU cooler is not something I had installed before. I'm an old guy and I haven't built a computer in about 15 years. Thanks so much for providing this. I was unable to view the "line method" that you use for applying the thermal paste because of the camera angle. I was a little surprised to find out that you didn't use the stock fan as I did. I'm sure that I should have viewed the entire video before starting instead of "as I go".

t0lkien1 I might of been a little dumb on my part, but I'm currently doing a budget build (£900) and couldn't afford top of the range fans, so I bought 7 CM Sickeflows what are meant to be quieter and better performing than the Hyper Evos 212 Stock fan (plan to put 2 on the cpu cooler) but problem is there 3 pin fans (my mobo does support 3 pin cpu fans) but do you think I should replace them for PWM fans?

Star pattern is in part to ensure the thermal paste spreads as evenly as possible. If you tighten one side a bit more than another, you squeeze an excess of paste off one side and overload the other... Which can lead to things like compound squirming out the side. Star pattern spreads diagonally, more chance it'll be evenly distributed.

The 212X is the upgraded version that hasn't reached proliferation yet. Fan aside, the difference lies with the aluminum fins. They have X-shaped perforations around the heatpipes. These perforations have a two-fold purpose: the first is to help direct some of the airflow around behind the heatpipes to stop "heat pockets" from forming, the second is to allow for better a better type of airflow.

No, you do not have too. I always like to use some isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip or any lint free makeup cleaning pad. For the thermal past, if you plan on keeping stock speeds then the stuff that comes with it is fine. If you want to overclock id invest in some artic Silver 5 paste.

Depends on your motherboard, Most BIOS now have the option to set your ration and leave all other settings on Autro, when you do that the BIOS adjusts the voltage you need to support that Overclock. I am just saying the voltage the BIOS adjust to is always way more than you need. Really watch TTL's video and you will understand.

Ideally you face the fans out the back so the air flow comes from the front of your case and out the back. But can face it up and blow the air out the top of your case (assuming you have vents and or fans in the top, or you could even face it down or in pulling air from the top or rear into the case, but you have to make sure you are exhausting the hot air somewhere. Also the cooler is bolted down and does not put stress on the CPU itself.

There is about 7.5 Inches of space from the CPU socket to the roof of the Prodigy and the EVO is 6.2 inches tall , so yes it should fit, however you will not be able to put any fans in the top/roof. Also a fan in the rear of the Prodigy should fit but may be tight.

Yes, Ron is following best practices here, and his anti-static arm band protects the electronics from insensible discharge into the parts on the motherboard. I'm guessing that the bluish mat on his workbench is conductive and the end of the arm band is clipped to that.

Yes there is a little nipple that should fall into that hole. Otherwise the tower will be tilted a little. I had to adjust mine, I do mention that.

If the back plate has a way to stay in place, you can install the CPU afterwards. I typically install the CPU first but no thermal paste of course.

Yeah, it's one of the best budget cooler you can get. Good balance price / performance / noise.

I used MX4. Artic Silver 5 is fine, but takes a couple of days to cure, from my experience. If you install the heat sink correctly you will be just fine. Use the pea or line method.

Check you temps. If they are good I would not worry about it. Just make sure you have the pin in the hole keeping the tower locked in place.

I've installed several of these on AM3+ and 1150/1155 motherboards, best "bang for the buck" cooler/heatsink in the market today. I prefer using Noctua fans instead of Coolermaster's, but to each their own. :-) Thanks for the video, very well done!

True but also GELID Solutions Tranquillo is good cooler and sometimes even cheaper than this CM.

Hombremaniac True, however, Coolermaster HSFs are way easier to find, most retailers have them in stock.

Depends on your case. It it has a CPU back plate cutout you should be able to install it without removing the motherboard.

I did not really get a chance to test it much. I just used it to verify my CPU would overclock. I don't recall the idle and OC temps. Checkout my video on the water cooled SM8 system with the Gigabyte Z77x-UP7 and I may have listed some temps in that video.

Yes you can change it with any 120mm fan. Remember though you should try to replace with another 4 Pin (PWM) fan . But you do not have to. If you use a 3 Pin fan it will just be on full power (12V) the whole time. No biggie , just may be a little noisier.

Most concise and helpful install video for the 212 Evo on KZbin... thank you! The instructions that came with the cooler is absolutely garbage. At most, one should just browse through it then watch this video from start to finish. Thanks again, Ronsanut. I've been less than impressed with the stock fan that comes with the cooler so I'll be replacing it as well, but with a Noctua NF-F12 PWM instead.

Wish i had seen this video when i fitted mine, i had a right hassle before realizing that i had to use the mounting plate! Also i find that this cooler does a good job of cooling but is quite easy to move around by accident if you try and take the fan off. also if you run your computer with the side of the case off the space between the CPU cooler and fan gathers a lot of dust, so i recommend you keep the side on.

I have not tried to rotate mine, but it really should be very snug. Undo and recheck your installation. There is locking pin in the bracket and base that should keep it from rotating.

76f is about 25c so a 6 degree delta (31-25) is just fine. You have no problems. Your chip is cooling fine.

Thanks! I installed this 212 cooler on my last build in 2014, but forgot how I did it. Now I'm going to rebuild it with mostly new components, but I want to reuse the old cooler. I'm still running the original Cooler Master fan and it remains dead quit after 7 years! CPU temps 37- 38C under load. We will see if it performs as well with a much more powerful and hotter processor (i5-4670 vs i7-10700).
