Chad, im from ny. Been watching your vids. Wished you were in NY. I hired a roofing/chimney comp to rebuild my chimney roof up, ICE & water underneath, new step flashing, and flashing over it. It is a singled wall brick chimney with double flue pipes. Couple rain storms, no issues but last saurday, After hrs and hrs of straight heavy rain, i started getting leaks through my chimney brick wall inside my attic a ft or two down. Contractor came and said it absorbed too much water. He came and sealed my chimney brick with PWS-8 sealer. Idk if this will resolve the issue. Your input would be greatly appreciated. TIA

I don't think applying a sealer within one week of heavy rain in this type of weather is a good idea. I would rather wait until the chimney was good and dry. I would have recommended a custom stainless steel cap first before sealing.

Thanks. It’s just liquid window flashing, zip system makes something similar. The stuff I use was given to me, and isn’t available to the public.

It is a (STPE) sealant. Huber has liquid flashing. Also barribond is another. You can also try OSi Quad Max.

Is there step flashing under the counter flashing? Or are you using the counter flashing as the step flashing incorporated with the shingles?

Its lead flashing, so I do it all-in-one. If it was aluminum I would have to do step flashing and counter flashing because it bends so poorly.

The all in one is an old school technique..I thought that's what you were doing. I'm a mason too and also do chimney restoration in CT. I enjoy watching your videos.. you do some good work. I might not agree with everything you do but overall you are professional.

I always use Grace. Haven’t found anything better yet, for what I use it for.
