Roof Rack Installation on a Bare Roof - Thule Evo Clamp WingBar *How To, Overview and Install

Here, I teach you how to install this multi-purpose base roof rack on the bare roof of your car. I am showing you on my 06 Prius, but this will work for a range on specified vehicles. This system includes two Thule Evo WingBar load bars, four Thule Evo clamps/feet, and a fit kit(the one modeled is specific to my car). Locks are recommended - I show you how to install those. Also, how to adjust if measurements are off.

Thank you ! About to install my identical Thule rack on my 13 Prius plug-in. Really a 3 rd gen Prius unlike your 2nd gen that requires a 5001 fit kit instead of your gen 2 version. My rack came from Rack Attack who have a great website and staff who educated me through the process. Now you know the fit kit you need if you ever upgrade to a sexier Gen 3. I'm guessing you've noticed by now, but you made a mistake at 3:27. The foot pads are paired diagonally in the instructions, not across from each other as you did it. Might be a contributing factor to why your measurements were off when you installed them.

Not sure if you saw, but you put both 134's on the front and both 133 on the back. They go-to opposite corners in the directions you show. Or at least that's what it looked like. I hope I'm the wrong one here!!! Cheers! 3:30 area

A very informative video. One thing to keep in mind with the Thule rack system is that the instructions are not descriptive. The instructions are images and symbols. Pay close attention to the numbering for the foot pads clamps and how they work together. It appears at least for my Toyota Prius prime that each foot pad goes with a separate numbered clamp in the whole system seems to work together well then

i just installed mine, the measurements are correct. you just need to loosen with the key(counter clockwise) until it drops down where it latches to the car. then you can tighten from there(clock wise)

Thule makes the best racks. They are the OEM brand for virtually all makes. Got your setup fromRackattack.com. Great supplier and yes it’s more expensive than trying to save $400 if you can find them on Kijiji. Unlike yours, mine is a 3rd Gen that required a different fit kit for each Prius gen has a different roofline so different kit. Fitting is extremely important on a bare roof unlike The situation with SUVs that usually have cross rails built in. BTW your locking kit like mine came with 3 keys: a pair to lock and unlock the rack snd most importantly a PASS KEY that is needed to install the locking mechanism. Thule’s instructions and your video talk of using a key to set the locks in place. In reality, as I found out after 1/2 of wasted time, the 2 identical keys don’t work when you try to install the locks. Other than that missing step, your install instructions are dead on. Just maybe just my dementia prevented me from seeing the obvious! Thanks

At around 3:30 you put both 134 fit kit pieces on the front doors, when the instructions say otherwise. 134 FL, 133 FR, 133 RL, 134 RR. Right after you went over them, doh! lol

Many Prius's can tow up to 1500 lbs which means you could bring tow along a lot of camping/living gear in a small cargo trailer. Even a small cargo trailer with say, 500 lbs of stuff is a lot of extra things one could travel with. I think the Prius needs a couple 100 watts of solar on the roof & hood to help keep the battery recharged.

Great video. Question: around 3:10 the directions show the fit kit crossed (ie FL 134, FR 133) but you grouped both 134s for the front and both 133s for the back. Is this a mistake you found in the directions (which seems likely...i would guess like numbers would be front/rear) or was it an oops in your video?

The dimensions were correct. She installed both 134's on the front and the 133's on the rear, when it clearly showed in the directions that they were to be diagonally, ie 134's on front left and right rear, and the 133's on the front right and left rear. Her mistake, not Thule's. See video at 03:14
