For covert missions you need to prioritize turning off the alarms. Then, and only then, can you look for your target. The only exception is if your target has a walking route that places them very far from any other guard and you have a silent or audio masking (inside or outside) weapon. You'll need to leave the area before someone finds the body. Also, some targets will run as soon as they spot you. You might get a message (comms panel) where the mission giver lets you know the target is alerted to a hit being called on themselves. Agreed these are more difficult but often have better rewards.

Turning off alarms isn't necessary if you can get the target without any witnesses and get a clean kill. Alarms only go off if someone activates them. It certainly increases the chances of success to turn them off, but I generally don't bother. Sometimes it doesn't work out like today, but it's no big deal.

why did you fail the covert kill on purpose ? Sorry im new to this game, just started last week and I've been struggling with those kill missions

Didn't fail it on purpose, just got a bit unlucky. You're technically supposed to turn off the alarms, but you don't absolutely have to if you can get a clean kill and get out before anyone notices. I tend not to bother with the alarms and whatever happens happens.

I recently got back into Elite, I bought the Cobra MkV and the Mandalay, they are amazing ships. Which one do you like better? I’m torn, the Mandalay.

The Cobra is more fun for the Bounty Hunter stuff I've been doing.

if you're planning to do exploration and/or have a great bubble hopping ship, the mandalay is THE best ship in the game IMO, its a medium flies like a small, mine has a 73ly range with all the stuff i would ever need, runs really cold and the native sco is so good, heat caps out at like 60%, uses like no fuel and still flies pretty straight
