I love that you pointed out the overuse of autotune. I watch this show religiously and that’s something I point out a lot to my husband because it drives me nuts. Especially when it messes with the performance of a really talented singer. And it sometimes covers up their natural quirks that makes their voices recognizable (which I wonder if that’s why they use it so heavily.)

They definitely use autotone on this show to disguise voices of actual singers, they'd be way too easy to guess otherwise. In my country's version of this show there was a singer with super distinguishable voice but his voice wasn't recognizable at all before his last performance where he sang with his "normal voice". It's a shame because it takes away from the performances but I also get why they need to use it.

​@@edschelchang6123 Their format is very different though, they don't have seasons, they just have shows almost every week all year where 8 people compete in only two episodes where a winner is crowned in the 2nd ep, then 8 new people comes in to compete. in a year they have 50 episodes, that's 200 celebrities a year so I doubt most are huge a-listers. Also pretty sure Ryan Reynolds was just a special guest performance like Demi Lovato did in the US, didn't actually compete.

Starting in Season 8 of the US show they started doing Themed Nights. A lot of them are franchise specific and when they are they get some of the charcters from that show/franchise to show up for the episode.

It’s the costumes. The singers who have been on the show have spoken about how the hardest part is trying to sing in these overheated super heavy costumes they can barely see out of nd can’t move in. I imagine it’s difficult to get breath control in them. Notably the ones that do best usually basically wear normal clothes with gloves & ht.

OMG okay I never seen any other Country's version, but I got Savage Garden omg!! I LOVE that group and that singer sounded just like the lead singer too! Just to give you a head's up, Roomie, O-Town was a boy band from the 2000s, here's the big BUTT though, it was founded using a Reality TV show. While they did have a few hits, their biggest being "All or Nothing" (it even overshadowed Backstreet Boys and N'Sync), they didn't last long in the decade because there were so many boy bands in the early 2000s.

Idina Menzel is the original singer of the song defying gravity, and I think there is a rule you can't sing your own song on the show, so it would not have been her.

I stopped watching the show a long time ago. However, I heard that one of my all time favorites was on there, Dick Van Dyke, so I had to watch his part. It was definitely iconic. He is definitely a good singer even at his age. He's never been a powerhouse in singing but very pleasant to listen to. Also your producer should have showed the part where he danced at the end it was awesome! I've heard that at 97 he was the oldest on the show!

I feel like you kinda misunderstood the reason a lot of those really good singers sound bad: Because to try to hide themselves they will purposely alter their voice to sound worse that it actually is :) The trick ist to mask your voice but still sound ok and I feel like some singers just don't get this perfect line and just sing bad to not be recognized :D
