Rooster Makes a Nest for His Hen

I have the best rooster ever. Among other wonderful things he does for his ladies, today I discovered him making a nest for one of his hens and he beckoned her inside to lay her egg in it.

My very first rooster and chicken, the rooster would do alot for her also. Her very first egg she laid the rooster basically stood by and watched the whole time. I miss those two was so long ago.

Roosters are one of the best partners to their hens. Their entire world revolves around them and making sure they’re happy. My scissor-beaked rooster never allowed himself a break, and despite being underweight from his deformity, he still gave the best treats to the girls in the flock. He was the sweetest guy ever, but did not like my brother or dad at all lol. He passed away a few years ago, and not a second goes by that I don’t miss my little Blue.

I have seen something like this before, it when experienced rooster trying to teach new/inexperience hen how to be a good mama. In the video, you can see the rooster talks a lot. Says the rooster "Alright, in this hay hole is Your spot. You will sit here and lay eggs, and wait for it to hatch" blah blah.

Banana buttons, Brewster my rooster disappeared the end of July. I don't know where he went. He stayed around for about 7 months. It was fun having them while he stayed.

@@Richard-zc1cj thanks for letting me know. Sad to hear he went but glad you got to spend time with him. I keep chickens for pets and eggs and they make me laugh so much. My advice, get a house with a bit of grass and keep a few and they will make you very happy. Some people even keep them in apartments with nappies on but it's not ideal 😁

Lol I keep them for eggs too. And found this quite funny. Thanks for telling us. Normally roosters without a hen are quite friendly because they are looking for companionship. One I raised from a egg, he does his little rooster dance at me still.

My silky showed sighs of being broody. When my Cochin hen was off eating he would sit on the eggs for a few seconds. Never caught it on tape though. Then he would allow my broody hen to take over again. He did attack, but only when you tried to pick up the hens.
