I'm still rocking my 2016SE, but it won't be to long before I might need to find another tiny phone that can do anything. So I'm looking at some of these right now. I will use the 2016SE for as long as I can, because it really is one of the best phones ever made.

Have had my jelly star about 4 months now and it has been a great phone, I love it. For the back lights, you can set them to blink on notification even if the phone is on mute which is a useful feature for me.

Yes, what a brilliant phone. I use the little notification LED for mine. Imagine a phone coming out these days with a headphone jack, a notification LED and even a built-in radio, when the biggest phone manufacturers in the world can't even do one of those with their $1,500 phones.

I “upgraded” from a flip phone to the Palm several years ago. I resisted moving to a smartphone specifically because of the ridiculous size of most phones. I can confirm every issue you identified with the Palm. I think the battery life is the worst offender. I only use the phone for calls and texts, and for away-from-home activities, so I can get close to two days of battery life with the Mophie Juice Pack on good (no calls) days. And, unless someone miniaturizes an iPhone, I’ll hunt long and hard to replace the Palm when dies.

yessss, somehow phone size has become the 'phablet' size several years ago, and there's no one making a decently small phone anymore (maybe no one's buying?), even Palm phone here is too small, I think the 1st or 2nd phone in the comparison at the beginning are the perfect sizes, we can even get more screen real estate by removing the bezels.

Thanks for this video, good to see you're hosting the small phone club here in the comments! I have a Jelly 2, the Star wasn't enough of an upgrade, then I convinced myself I could switch to the "small" Zenfone 10 - it's enormous and it just doesn't inspire any joy in me! I'm hoping for a Jelly 3 that's a bit bigger but with smaller bezels and a bit more classy build, then it would be the best of all worlds! Or the Small Android Phone project but that looks like it's stalled :(

I have my fingers crossed for exactly the same thing. The Jelly Star is my favourite phone in years but it is too small for me. Typing is not very fun. A slightly larger, slimmer Jelly 3 would be fantastic.

I’ve only used the Palm, haven’t tried the Jelly Star yet. What’s keeping me from forking out the money for it, is the chunky build. I like the slim “premium” design of the Palm. Also it’s the display, with a 720p high ppi, the screen looks fantastic. But the battery life has got to be its biggest problem. With life mode on, battery definitely can last, but I need to be able to receive calls and texts in case of an emergency.
@Roos-Reviews
@Roos-Reviews 20 күн бұрын
I felt exactly the same. I never used life mode because what's the point in having a phone if no one can reach me in an emergency? Thanks to a recent commenter I just learned about the Rakuten Mini. It is like a slightly larger version of the Palm Phone with a bit better performance and a bit better battery life. I'm trying to get hold of one.

just truth. i want a palm phone badlky, but battery life is gonna be an issue. i love the jelly phones too though. some nice, small phone alternatives now a days are things like the Blackview N6000, doogee s mini, unihertz atom, stuff like that. But You cant beat how thin and small the Palm is. I can even get over the performance and maybe, just maybe ignore the battery life proiblem because it just looks that good.

There’s a program called 3utools for Windows computers. Just this week a Mac version was released. It does require you to load iTunes on your Windows computer but you don’t have to use it. 3utools uses it to access the phone. Open the tool and click on make ringtones. You have to do them 1 by 1 but it only takes a couple of seconds. It converts the files that the phone recognizes. It’s very easy. You can load all your photos onto the computer or flash drive and video.

I think you should have mentioned that the Palm phone is marketed as a 'companion phone'. It's not meant to satisfy all the functions of a regular smartphone but in a smaller form. All I think I really need a smartphone for nowadays is mobile banking and navigation.
@Roos-Reviews
@Roos-Reviews 2 ай бұрын
In my opinion the original idea of marketing it as a companion phone is partly why it failed. They locked it to a single network, physically modified the SIM tray to remove the eject mechanism so other sims could not easily be used and charged a monthly fee for its companion use. People gave it a shot anyway and found the 95 minute 'screen on' battery life to be too challenging to live with. To shift the many unsold units they dropped the companion idea and sold them unlocked as ordinary smart phones for a third of the original price. But the poor performance and even poorer battery life make it difficult to live with. If they had made it slightly thicker to house a larger battery and not gone down the companion route it might have had a chance as a good mini phone and we might have seen a successor by now.

If yo like the design of the Palm (which has been my phone for almost four years) but hate the battery life (which is its biggest downfall) try to get a Rakuten Mini (C330), which is almost identical in design but slightly bigger (and larger screen)', with a volume button and better battery life. The only problem is, they were designed for the Japanese market only, which makes them tricky to get.

@@Roos-Reviews I have one but I still need to unlock it, as it's tied to Rakuten (The maker of the phone is Wiko), so the only thing I can't comment on (yet) is the phone's call/network capabilities. The UI is pretty much exactly like the Palm but the bigger screen makes it much better. Also, the processor (snapdragon 439 vs 435) and battery (1250 vs 850) are a step up. I was able to get one via ebay (US), but it took a bit of time as they don't come up that often. Amazon Japan has them as well.

Would be nice if Palm and/or Unihertz would watch this video to make what we are ultimately needing. For one, I hate that my Jelly 2 isn't waterproof. I need to uograde to Jelly Star however I do HATE its see through design. I also hate the lights on the back. WHY?!!! My Jelly 2 phone is BEAUTIFUL!!! and sexy looking. Looks professional. While the Jelly Star is probably an uograde that I need the dang thing ( online anyway ) looks like something you might get out of a gumball machine. Childlike. Literally I hate that!!! Hopefully it will look much better in real life since my Jelly 2:does need to be replaced. Maybe I'll be able to find a protective cover for it somewhere that hides its childlike looks. SMH :-/. I DO LOVE MY JELLY 2 and will surely/hopefully love my JELLY STAR other than its looks. I need Jelly Star for a newer version of Android. Hopefully next Jelly will be waterproof along with other pluses mentioned about the Palm. Android version is definitely too old in Palm. As in, I would think, not safe/secure from hackers. Going to order my Jelly Stae now. Great video!!! Thanks.

Really want the jelly star but didn't get it because I worry about cracking the transparent shell. Then they announced the 4.3 inch Tank Mini, a rugged phone. But it has a laser range finder and camping light. Like who's buying these phones? what's your primary demographic Unihertz? Who is out there saying I need a rugged smart phone that's tiny, packed with 12gb of ram! but it has to have a ranger finder and 4 different light source on the back. WHO? They're doing like 75% of what I want but it's the 25% that's turning me off. Guess, I'm waiting for super jelly star 2 tournament edition ex plus alpha with the rear detachable fight stick and mini-sanwa buttons. A phone that doubles are your main fight stick because why not?
