Hey ya'll, I'm Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm
Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you'll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.
There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart - to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we've learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you're here.

Okay, may I say that, at least for me, I do not care if your video has a specific purpose. Whether or not I "learn" something, I enjoy your content. Simply hanging out is really nice. You are so warm and welcoming and I've literally been missing your videos cause I feel like they're scarce recently. I know that you know that teaching is your purpose, but sometimes just hanging out and seeing the regular to do's is just as beautiful. I say this, stemming from the beginning of the video when you say your not sure if its "homesteady" enough to film. Every single video I've watched from you, I've learned something from, even if you weren't being intentional with the teaching. I friggin love ya girl

Keep posting these types of videos!!! You helped me 1. Find a new bulk natural source 2. Keep me from impulse buying a $120 roaster and started searching marketplace (found the perfect one for $35) 3. Your creating a safe and fun space (even if it’s in your trunk) for others to feel a sense of normalcy I still am going through the glazed over looks from friends when I try to talk about my passions. Since 2019 watching your videos has given me a place to feel at peace knowing that there are folks like me. ❤️🌸🌱

The dried lemon slices can be strung to decorate your Christmas tree, add them to wreaths or steep them in hot water and honey to sooth a scratchy or sore throat. Rehydrate slices then place them on chicken(s) and roast the bird(s) in your new roaster oven. - Rhonda

Yes, this kind of video is helpful. Jess, please remember that what is regular or boring to you is not regular for a lot of people. You live a different and interesting life and have the ability to find resources and information that so many of us do not. Please remember your "long" garden tour and how you didn't think people would care to watch. Your life is about more than a garden and we're here for it. Thanks for sharing with us

Probably the best Azure walk through I've ever watched! I've watched Becky's from acre homestead for awhile and we love her, but the first time we ordered through azure, I honestly had no idea what to expect... waiting in the parking lot, helping others unload while they help you, the fact that they repack things into bigger boxes... that's all stuff I really would have loved a heads up on back then. Also, after we moved states and set up our new drop, we found out it was at a cute one acre homestead situated in the middle of a town! And she had some of your stickers on her van, it was the greatest conversation.

Whatever you share there is always a level of learning if we are open to it. Now I have become very appreciative of just having the connection. I know now, the winter is when content can slack some because the garden is over. My "need" for connection misses them if there are less posts. Love the grocery haul Jess. Now as an empty nester and widow, I don't shop in bulk per se, but do participate in a seasonal food co-op for produce, Bountiful Baskets, here in AZ. I'm always surprised by the abundance of fruits and veges that are available, but don't reach the grocery stores due to "cosmetic" appearances. I look at food history and the pioneers of that time that would be incredulous at how wasteful it would be to throw away some rice, oatmeal and flour because of some weevils. My grandma would take her dry goods and put it in the oven before cooking it. Ok grandma, it's just pepper. Wink wink.

And don’t forget one of THE BEST perks of using a roaster…….when it’s hot weather, plug the roaster in OUTSIDE so it doesn’t cause a nasty fight with the air conditioner! Animals won’t normally bother it because it’s HOT to the touch but if you must, even placing it in the garage to use it is better than inside. Now when it’s COLD outside, that roaster serves as a great heater while being used. 😄

I agree with everything that's been said here. I get a wonderful vicarious farm experience, but I watch your videos even more because I love to be around you and Miah (and the goats!). Your loving warmth and down to earth faith are so encouraging. They deepen my own walk and faith in our good, trustworthy Father. God bless you! Lin

In the 1980's people in the local area would get together and order from Mountain People's Warehouse. In the LosAngeles area it was hard to find organic food at that time, so we got together as a group and bought cases of stuff and split them. It was so exciting when the big rig came with our order once a month. The good old days!!!

Great video, my mom used to purchase from a program like that in Searcy, Arkansas when I was younger. Driving an hour to buy expensive food from beans, grains and things in Little Rock just wasn’t something we could do often. I love that you are helping spread until about this, and to me, it felt like any other video, you share! Just real and peaceful!

Azure Standard borrowed this idea from us 1970s Mother Earthers who organized organic co-ops in their towns. We had one and this is how it worked. Once a month we held a pot luck at the community center, usually with a guest speaker on subjects like beekeeping, etc. After the dinner, we sat around and went through the Erwon order list. Back then Erwon required a minimum order. Once we met that, the truck would stop at the community center and we would unload. So we were the ones who broke up boxes of raisons, 100lb bags of flour and oatmeal. People brought bags and boxes to pick up their orders. It was organic, cost effective and fun! We farmers and rural folks got to share a meal and catch up monthly. It was back then that I learned that a gallon glass jar would hold 12lbs of honey or molasses. I wish companies like Erwon or Walnut Acres would make a come back. These days in New Hampshire, we farmers co-op amongst ourselves. I buy organic honey from my neighbor, along with organic chicken and pork and so it goes. It is a help as we support our local farms and gardeners.

I did enjoy your assure order pick up...as i do from other channels as well. Its not what you bought, as much as thoughts behind it that anyone can apply. Perhaps...the dried lemons slices were for making hot teas, etc? I like to line a pan with those, shallots or onions and an herb...cooking chicken or fish. Subtle notes. And easy peasy to have on hand. They also look interesting in a glass gallon jar on the counter. Thanks Jess for taking us with you.

This kind of shopping is new to me, never heard of it before. As for video content I'm not picky on what you show or have a need to learn something new all the time. Mainly because I am just seeing the day to day working of what you do and what needs to be done. Some day I hope to be in the same place as you guys are with a homestead of my own and this shows me kind of what to expect or what issues might come up from time to time. So keep up what you are doing and have fun with it. ❤️

I really love that you pay attention to where your food comes from. Over the past few years I’ve gotten to a place where I’m able to only buy meat that is local and grown on regenerative farms, buy fair trade bean to bar chocolate and of course (thank god I’m single) really pay attention to the labels on things like condiments - my favorite brand is Sir Kensington. Keep up the good work!

Just walk around with your camera and talk to me. You are a good friend who I want to check in with everyday. All summer in the garden I felt I was channeling you so much of the time. I’m 66 and I’ve hobby gardened for many years. I’ve tried so many new things this past year because of your encouragement. I was so sad I missed seeing you at the Homestead Festival in Columbia back in June. I ended up to sick to stay, but my daughter saw you. We both love what you share. While I love the garden vlogs, I too want to see how you do other things. Show us a little of your food storage set up. So many newbies don’t know how or where to start. Thanks for all that you do to spread the love and knowledge. Oh, do a devotional video soon please 😊

I love Azure so much - my delivery comes in next week. :) Having access to bulk - and trustworthy - ingredients has really been a massive game changer for us. I think sharing videos like this is just as valid as a gardening/homestead video. Without KZbin, I never would have heard of Azure. Thank you!

Jess, you asked if we would be interested in seeing more grocery hauls from you. For me, I enjoy your channel for mostly gardening, animal husbandry, seeing your dreams come true and for your devotionals. You have been open about your beliefs and it has been an instructional and interesting pleasure to see you demonstrating a faith driven life. The little glimpses into daily life other than the standard garden-homestead-faith is a nice addition, but are not the focus. Other content providers do grocery hauls-and they are interesting, but it is not necessarily something I want to see as a regular focus on your channel. If it fits in organically with your theme (like it did today), then I like it.
