I think the story would have worked better like this: Rory and dean start normal, Jess comes and is interested in Rory. Rory plays with the idea but decides to stay with Dean because and Jess and Rory are just friends. Jess leaves because he can't have her. When Rory goes to Yale she and dean just drift appart. They decide together to end things and mourn the relationship for a while. Dean ends up with someone. Happy. No drama. Maybe a little Logan but not as intense. Then after graduation she meets Jess again and they hit it off because now he is perfect for her. THE END maybe I think about this to much xD

He's start his own business or car gallery restoring historic cars for filthy rich people , he'd get the approval of her grandparents . Dean’s anger is pretty understandable, but at the same time I do think Dean was becoming a little bit too clingy here. I get wanting to spend time with your girlfriend, and knowing that she’s going to have the house to herself seems like a perfect opportunity to do a cute little pop-up, BUT she did emphasize that she really just wanted to spend a night alone. Him just showing up like that after she already told him she wanted the house to herself was kind of not respecting her boundaries. We all need some space from time to time to just be alone. It would be different if she didn’t stress to him earlier that she wanted a solo night. However I also completely understand why he was upset when he found out that she wasn’t alone. Truthfully, I would’ve been pissed too. Dean did have an understandable reaction when he found out that the guy that likes her was there. Plus he knows that there’s something between them. Everyone could see the chemistry between Jess and Rory. Even though Rory’s intentions were pure, the situation did look kind of suspicious.

I completely agree. I've criticised Rory plenty of times, especially between the end of season 2 and start of season 3 when she was stringing along both Dean and Jess. However on this occasion she was in the right and Dean was in the wrong. Rory and Dean were already planning to spend Saturday together anyway, so Rory understandably wanted one night alone at home on the Friday, to relax, rest, have her space etc. That is perfectly normal, and the fact that Dean struggled to understand that was troubling.

Yeah, I totally agree with u, I really don't know everyone criticise so bad Rory. I mean, yes, she should have been honest with him and have told him that their relationship it wasn't working, neither of bouth seemed to be happy, but they just keep trying to work out to something that it was already broken. Dean's actitude pushed her to feel more atractted to Jess, because with Dean everything was fights, jealousy and claim of a lot of time. Dean looked needed of Rory's love, and that isn't atractive at any circunstances. And in the other side was Jess, who was someone so misterious that seemed to have clare intentions to be flirting with her but at the same time no, that it was also prohibited because no one liked him, even Lorelai. In the second season, Dean seemed to be more Lorelai's friend than Rorys boyfriend, he was so insecure and mad all the time. Their relationship was so monotone and with Jess it was a lot of mysterious, bad boy kind of guy, he wasn't fighting with her all the time and they had a lot of common. It was understandable that she fall or feel atracted for Jess. Not because you are in a relationship means you can't feel atracted for someone else, you could feel that and then just let it go, but if your relationship sucks of course your atraction for that person it's going to grow because represents something better than what you have. Dean seemed to be so lacking of self-love, because he knew that she was falling for someone else, but he was still begging for her love. I didn't like Jess also, but he had a good atitude when Rory was in the limbo between been with Dean or Jess. Jess didn't wait for Rory, he looked for someone else, because you can't be waiting for the rest of your life to someone to love you, they do or they don't. And if they don't or they can't decide then you should move on, and that was Jess do when Rory came back from Washinton. And that should had been Dean's atitude too but not staying there waiting for just a little bit of love, because that was what Rory was giving to him. I don't think that it was Rory fault, I think that it was Dean's fault for keep trying something that it was empty.

I honestly didn’t like how Dean didn’t understand that she wanted a night alone. I would’ve been annoyed and upset if my boyfriend and I were spending the next day together and he couldn’t understand me wanting to have a night to myself. And then he didn’t respect that boundary. Even though I am in the unpopular crowd of being team none of her boyfriends, when rewatching the series, I think Jess and Rory are great as friends but not boyfriend and girlfriend. They might’ve been better together when Jess was older, who knows. But I do wish that the writers included platonic male friendships for Rory that didn’t turn romantic. Everyone wants to play the blame game and say Dean overreacted but think about this way. If you’re considering what’s running through his mind, your girlfriend who has been distancing herself from you whilst getting weirdly close with a guy who you strongly dislike and who loves to provoke you publicly, tells you she wants to spend the night alone. When you call her, planning to pop in for just a minute, she lies to you, and when you do arrive you find that this guy is at her house with her and realize she’d been consecutively lying to you all night. On top of that, he starts poking and prodding, trying to make you angry, insulting you and making fun of you. Finally, she asks him to leave and you come inside to realize you’ve been lied to again and that he has been there for a while, and had been there when you called her. From that side, it’s not looking great, is it? His anger is understandable. And coming from a very emotional person, some people get quiet when they’re angry and some have to let it out. His yelling is not meant to be aggressive, it’s likely an unconscious emotional response that he is unaware of how to control and it’s only meant as a form of release for said anger so as not to reach a boiling point. I, an overly emotional teenager, tend to raise my voice or go too far on accident when I’m overwhelmed or upset, sometimes I go to the lengths of physical outlets such as punching my thigh so as to direct the anger away from the person I’m speaking with. Yelling isn’t inherently bad, you must consider intent and you have to remember the root cause.

Yes, season 1-2 is very good, but after Jess appears in town, everything goes wrong. The innocent, honest Rory turns out to be a liar and a cheat, and that's so bad. I think Rory wasn’t really smart in this scene, like if he wants to convince Dean that Jess is just a friend then let him see they are all eating WITH Paris as FRIENDS, things look wrong when you try to hide them. But I guess there’s also the part about she already having feelings for Jess here, I dont know, I’m very conflicted about them because Dean was like 10000% perfect during the first seasons but he does gets needy later on which is still NO EXCUSE for how Rory treats him.
