Ok fellows I saw Rory once in my life and that was after a Rory critic in a Munich newspaper The "Abendzeitung" wrote about Rory the next day "Wahnsinnsgitarist Rory Gallagher . Which means if you want to translate it in English nothing else but Super super excellent guitarist. To make long story short I bought a ticket th very next day for a concert following about 2 or 3 weeks later. I saw Rory play life and that was with Taste his first band. now I saw a hell lot of great old good bands in my life like Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Canned Heat, Chuck Berry, Santana, and so on... But what I still remember about Rory was that he literally "jumped" on the stage started playing in a way the blew my mind. I moment later i noticed something that drew him apart from everyone else I ever saw. He played a totally "run down a terribly old" and instrument . I was so shocked and as naive as I was at that time I felt sorry for him and I thought to myself " Poor fellow had not got enough money to buy a better guitar !! " . But then I listened and after half an hour it was cristal clear he played litarally everyone that i ever heard against the wall. In german that means he was the best I had ever heard at that time with one notable exception "Jimi Hendrix". But my second thought was he must have prctised a hell lot that is why his guitar was totally battered. Yeah I still remember this one concert and I have heard a hell lot of concerts in my life cause Iam already pretty old. Jörg

Somehow during many years of listening to Rory's incredible music I had managed to miss this track until a few months ago. I was spellbound hearing it for the first time. He was truly an incomparable artist, one of the all-time greats. Though he never received the recognition he so richly deserved in the US, I hope he knew how much he mattered to those of us who were lucky enough to discover his music. His life was much too short, but his music and its magic will live forever.

To me he is the best blues guitarist ever. No one cold change my mind on that. Not just blues, his excellence has not been recognised, it upsets me immensely. Too brilliant. He should have his name on the Holly wood walk of shame. Maybe I'm too auld, but his music is the by far the best ever

Once you really get into Rory you realize just how versatile he was. He played folk, blues, jazzy stuff with Taste, hard rock that influenced a lot of metal, good ol classic rock like this one. He has a song for every mood for me.

Rory certainly wrote many beautiful ballads, something I feel many folk overlook. Not only was he blessed lyrically and musically, he had the sweetest voice and could go from this tearjerker into Bullfrog Blues (for example). A most versatile musician whom I have enjoyed immensely for decades. RIP Rory.

Rory was the best ever.. he did get good recognition in the U.S. He was a hit on the hippie FM stations, this is not the Partridge Family, or Donny Osmond.. this is album oriented rock..and he got good recognition, from the right type of folks..he did not play pop..he rocked!!
@northernthrifter88179 жыл бұрын

@bunnylands9169 жыл бұрын
+Michael Craig, I understand what you're saying -- yes, he clearly DID get recognized as someone truly special by all of us in the U.S. (and elsewhere) who "got" him. However, in the U.S. he never achieved anything close to "mainstream" recognition among rock music fans, despite being a phenomenal guitarist and altogether amazing musician. Look at any list of "greatest guitarists" and you'll see how little respect is paid to Rory. I know these lists are a joke -- a way to sell magazines, mostly -- but if you were to ask any guitar players you know to name their favorite guitarists or their personal influences, I'd be surprised if you heard Rory's name mentioned very often. Ah well, when he was playing and all that heart and soul was pouring out from him and the band, he could feel the love and appreciation coming back. I'd like to think that somewhere his spirit still feels it from us. RIP to a great, great musician.
@northernthrifter88179 жыл бұрын
Bunnylands I think he's very highly regarded by most blues/Rock even indie players like johnny Marr claim to b highly influenced by Rory, slash too any serious guitarist will eventually come across him although the Hendrix quote is a untrue myth jimi certainly knew and regarded him highly. The music and popularity of Rory Gallagher will only get bigger because the music is simply that fuckin good it can't b ignored, to quote the man himself "they don't make them like u anymore, that's for sure"
@michaelcraig94498 жыл бұрын
