When Jess pulled that prank she didn't even introduce Dean as her boyfriend, after that she was eyeing him after he fixed the toaster later at the diner, she was eyeing him after the sleigh ride incident, after he bid on her basket she turned it into a full fledged date they went to get pizza, and went to the book store, later that night she called him on the phone to flirt, and talk to him, she was really pressing for him, and Lorelai to get along, she wanted him to stay when he brought the food at the end when he asks if she really wanted him to leave she says she really wants to avoid a fight with Dean, and here she is again flirting with Jess through the window! She is not naive she knew he liked her, she led him on, she liked him, and the attention he was giving her, she was just too scared to break up with Dean because it would change her "perfectly" planned out life! She was falling for Jess the whole time, but was stringing Dean along! I love Jess though I'm team Jess, but Rory was not naive she was into Jess the whole time!

Lol "Rory wouldn't lie" they say staring at her, her mother in blissful illusion and Dean in knowing Denial. I think Jess was the kick start of Rory growing into an adult and you see some of her worst attributes emerging, cold-hearted hesitation, entitlement, selfishness. I think that Dean is over the top and scary in the way he screams and gets violent, but I also think he knew deep down they were not compatible and in his mind Rory deserved "better" at least intellectually, so he believed she was going to leave him and all his anger and frustration took the form of Jess and he kinda lost it. And Rory strung him along for so long too, it could be because she was young and confused but the way she evolved later makes you think it was her just growing into her adult persona.

Everyone is complaining about Dean being jealous and possessive but come on guys. I didn't really like Dean but I can understand him. Imagine being with someone who starts losing interest in you because she's into someone else. It's horrible and the fear of losing everything without knowing exactly what to do to change things makes you mad. Dean is also a teenager like Rory but people give him so much shit which I don’t get. 1. If the cards were reversed people would hate on Dean for doing something like this to Rory. 2.He was her bf and really cared about her and thought she was doing laundry the entire day so he wanted to do something nice for her and spend a little time with her. Rory lied to him on the phone when she didn’t tell him about Jess and he got mad because he didn’t expect for him to be there and also for his gf to lie to him. She lied to him multiple times in that scene alone and if Dean would’ve done that you guys would’ve torn him to shreds. 3.For those of you saying Jess liked Paris unlike Dean, Remember that Dean met Paris under totally different circumstances. She hated Rory and was talking shit about her when he first met her so he didn’t like the girl who hated his gf but Jess met Paris when she was Rory’s friend(ish). Dean had his opinions about Paris but was okay with her being there and didn’t necessarily hate her. 4.For those of you talking about Dean’s trust issues let me remind you that the next day when Rory is flirting with Jess (even if she doesn’t realise it)at Luke’s diner Dean is just standing outside and watching them but he still believes that Rory would never lie to him so he doesn’t go in because he trusts her and he did till the very end. He trusted her until the 24hr marathon thing where you can clearly see that Rory has a thing for Jess but doesn’t wanna admit it or break up with Dean so he gets frustrated and breaks things off. Also Rory did cheat on Dean and didn’t tell him so was he ever wrong🤷🏻‍♀️ 5. For those of you saying ‘jealousy isn’t attractive Dean’ if Rory was in Dean’s place she probably would’ve reacted the same way. Remember when she met Bobby(who was Logan’s colleague)for the first time and got so jealous and it was her first time meeting her. Dean already knew that Jess had feelings for Rory because of which he got jealous. The only thing he did wrong was yell at Rory but Rory wasn’t perfect and he wasn’t as well. Ok that’s my rant.

@22 Jess is better in terms of the chemistry between him and Rory. They just fit together better than her and Dean, but I agree with OP too. Rory should’ve just been honest with Dean and ended their relationship. It wasn’t fair of her to drag Dean’s heart through the dirt like that.
