I looked through Rory's appearances on Conan to see if he built up his confidence over the years 06/25/12 Takes a few pretty long pauses. 09/03/13 Thanks the crowd for fake standing ovations while unaccountably wearing a tux. 01/07/16 Opens his set by asking "Who's done anal?" nine times in a row. 11/02/16 Climbs into the crowd and straddles a random audience member for four minutes and yells "Shut up! Shut it" when people applaud.

Three years later almost, and still one of the best performances. Not only is it a good set that's different from his normal material, but the "crowd work" is doubly interesting because he gets to be a little loose and riff. It's a pretty bold move for a performer doing a brief late-night spot with limited time, and you also get to see the audience reactions in real time and can tell who's cool and who sucks in the crowd.
