The second great jazz-rock piece( first "big Swifty") of the record is the eponymous title "Waka/Jawaka" which offers a trip to the land of distancing between western and peplum, where complex jazzy plans clash and follow each other: keyboards, brass, guitars weave an unfathomable meander from which emerges a deep, adult music, in total harmony with the idea that Zappa can make of it, even though he is nailed to his wheelchair. Next the Grand Wazoo ( the Grand Wazoo is not Grand is monumental) and" the Petit Wazoo".... Zappa is in its own category... According to Zappa, the title "is something that showed up on a ouija board at one time"

According to my information, the words Waka Jawaka were something that appeared on an Ouija board at some point in time, and Frank decided to use them as the album title.

Technically speaking... today... you could make your guitar sound like the instrument during the second solo... but not back then. Back then you could only make these sounds in real time with a mini moog synthesizer... you COULD hook your guitar up to the mini moog (steve morse did)... but it would be behind by a fraction of a second from what you picked. Anyways... this is a minimoog. The third solo is Frank.

When Bob Moog (who obv constructed the Mini-Moog) heard Don Preston’s solo he said “That’s impossible! You can’t do that on a Mini-Moog!” Zappa would introduce Aynsley Dunbar like “This is Aynsley. He sounds like two drummers!” The way it’s produced here, thay’re all over the place. Btw, only eight musicians are playing here. So much over-dubbing. There’s a part that’s a guitar solo that Sal Marquez transcribed and the brass doubled.

This album has 2 songs with vocals 1. Your Mouth (Macy Gray did a VERY faithful cover of this song) and 2.A One Shot Deal...and you should REALLY REALLY REALLY listen to One Shot Deal. It is yet another Zappa song that will catch you completely by surprise. Yet another song that if you put in on after the vocals have finished... you'd never guess in a million years who you are listening to..

Grand Wazoo is pure music no-singing... maybe some rump-pa-paa's......! Please. Joe's Garage is a story from front to back. You can review 1/2 album at a time. Story about Joe and how Music ruined his life. Great Story telling Album, you will laugh your butt off and the background music is Incredible.

I was one of the lucky guys that had older brothers that like the skverk..I was 14tn and got in it and it has mastered through my life.Prince is another unik. My children got a kickstart...now they are teathing me about what is god now..and I love it..but Zappa is zappa and prince is Prince. hope that we can go back to musicians and not posers and geeks.
