Now you've done it!!! You've opened yourself to becoming one of AURORA's warriors and weirdos. I recently saw her live in Toronto and, at 72, I had to be the oldest warrior and weirdo in the building. It was epic!. I would suggest that, going foward, you check out her live performances - she's one of those rare creatures who's better live than recorded. My most favourite, which I still get a little choked up at even after repeated viewings, is "Eyes of a Child" live at Nidarosdomen. BTW, the song you just reviewed - Runaway - she wrote when she was 11.

I'm a 42 year old guy from Texas. I've performed, and appreciated classical music going back to my primary school days. Branched out into Blues, Rock, and Metal. Perhaps not the expected demographic for Aurora's music. I first heard this song almost 3 years ago, and I have been hooked ever since. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Aurora is more than another musician in the crowd of thousands. She has an amazing sincerity, and a passion for the art. The way she writes, and sings has some kind of magic hidden ingredient that resonates deeply (almost spiritually) with many people.

46 year old guy from NY (NOT the city)... who grew up on Creedence, Dylan, Johnny Cash, Charlie Daniels, and even Johnny Horton (old time "crooner"). That was all mom's influence, when I was old enough to earn cash and buy my own cassettes, it was a deep dive into metal and hard rock... first album purchase was Alice Cooper "Trash" but the second was Metal Massacre IV... a compilation of a lot of British invasion metal, heavy hitting stuff (Overkill, VoiVod, Metal Church, etc). Of course, Pantera, Sabbath, Metallica (when they were awesome), GNR, AC/DC (uncle's influence, along with KISS). Mid teens heavy into Tool, Rage but also "Classic Rock" Pink Floyd, Doors, Zep and a few rap artists... Wu-tang, Cypress, Eminem mostly. So I'm with ya, but I gotta say... I don't think Aurora HAS a demographic listener, she gets everyone that gives her a shot!

@@Mike_H76 The rundown of bands is so similar. My Mother is an Eagles fanatic, and my Stepdad still has his unopened vinyl copy of The White Album. From there it was Fleetwood Mac, and Floyd, and on to Metallica, and Tool, Rage, Pantera, NIN, Ministry, KMFDM, Rammstein, etc. I'm not superstitious, or religious in any way, but I absolutely think Aurora is here to impart a message to the world that it desperately needs to hear these days.

@@dmwalker24 We should both be ashamed that we left out Megadeth and Maiden! I couldn't get into KMFDM or Rammstein, KMFDM was too much "electronica" for me. I agree about Ministry and NIN, misspent 90's tripping face to the sound of NIN and Tool! Saw Pink Floyd on their Division Bell tour (I don't remember much of it) and Pantera at Ozzfest early or mid 90's. Two bands you may not have heard of, that you may like. Kind of a grungy hard rock sound. Check them out if you want (first link is 1000 mods "Super Van Vacation" album, second is Orange Goblin "Time Traveling Blues"). Orange Goblin has a different sound on many tracks, so if it doesn't resonate on the first... I'd suggest checking a couple more. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j17Lmaqef8prbdU kzbin.info/www/bejne/kH_TdaCBfaadm6c

Something you should know is that Aurora excels at live performances! She doesn't need post production for wonderful vocals plus you get to see her kinetic version of the song (she is not a singer who stands stock still as she sings!). Please do more of her songs.

There is only one Aurora. Like you said about listening to her music..something like being lost in it.....That's how I feel every day when I make a point of listening to this once in a lifetime gift. She just captures you and not matter what kind of song she is singing/performing, you just get lost in it with her...in such a phenomenol way. She wrote this song when she was 11 yrs. old...yes, 11. She has over 1000 songs/poems written. Her music is really varied. You cannot put Aurora in a box. She is such a free spirit. She is hilarious, brilliant, engaging, straight forward, quirky.....When she sings/performs, her music flows thru her whole body and soul. It looks like she totally leaves her body and goes somewhere else and into her music. At the end, sometimes, you will just see her kind of in a trance, make herself realize that she is finished with the song, kind of shake it off and become the soft sweet and shy and humble person that she really is. Aurora never intended to be a performer. She just wanted to write. She had an assignment in school to write a paper and she didn't do it so she just wrote a song. her song was recorded on a phone or something and I believe put on KZbin and it caught the attention of music producers who approached her and talked to her about signing her up. She didn't really want to do that but her mother just said "why don't you share your music with others?" Kind of like, if you don't like it, just quit. So, Aurora, never liking school, dropped out and her career began. It is kind of funny because all of these years later she pointedly said, "I still don't like school." I have listened to AJ as well. I think that I have heard her sing just about all of her songs..up until a while ago. AJ has a beautiful voice and she can sing anything...even the phonebook. It is great that has written some songs as well but after listening and watching Aurora, well Aurora writes/collaborates on over 90% of her songs. She started writing music when she was 6 yrs. old, she started with dance lessons at the same age. She didn't start with lyrics until she was 9 or so. She waited until she became proficient in English. Runaway and Running with the Wolves were 2 of her 1st releases and they went viral. Her live performances are unique. She doesn't stand still and sing in a traditional way. She is very physical and uses her arms/body...while she sings, some people have commented that it is distracting, some were unsure about it in the beginning but now understand, "that's Aurora". People always emphasize her live performances...where her voice sounds EXACTLY the same as the recordings. They are really awesome to see. She is a natural performer. Don't discount her video's though...(Aurora has her fingers in everything) have been called pure art! I think that they are as well. I really love all of the ways that she performs...videos and live. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYqnnKWAls52qNk Exist for Love ****video romantic beautiful song kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpCrnYOYpLGFgpo Runaway kzbin.info/www/bejne/q522pquPit-giLM Queendom *****video fun and makes a statement kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJSqaq2Kr9icqac Thru the eyes of a child …….live performance beautiful performance kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmHLk5aHbcaIoLc Churchyard …live perform kind of like a rock song. Currently my favorite artist after I discovered her like 1,5 years ago by a chance. Of course I love many different music and artist but there is something unique for me in her music, expressiveness, emotions. Also I love her whole discography what is very rare (actually I remember such situation only with Michael Jackson long time ago ;) ). But with Aurora on top of this there is also her also so original personality and she is just a good person. She is also a "natural artist" without formal music education. She learned to write and make music by herself, including playing piano (even her parents did not know anything about her music for first years). She started to make music from 6 years old and English lyrics from 9 years old. Her store how she become a artist is also interesting. She never tried or wanted to be a artist. She just wanted to make music for herself and as a way to express her emotions (and to deal with emotions). But she had school performance in the school + she also recorded a song in a studio called "Puppet" (she has some short, bought time in a studio) for her parents as a Christmas gift. Also she does not want to perform song live and just recorded it (BTW: it only shows that it has to be hard for her to perform concert for first years - she is introvert). But this performances or performance leaked somehow on internet (posted without her permission) and she was contacted by manager with question if she would like to be artist. And she told "no". But her mother convinced her that it would be selfish not to share music and music should not be kept only for herself. This convinced her and she become a artist :). Ps. She made Runaway when was 11 years old (and polished later) :)

Oh just wait until you see some of her live performances! Aurora is the total package - singer, songwriter, musician, dancer, producer/arranger, choreographer, and an absolutely lovely human being (and she’s just 26 years old!). She will often perform her songs quite differently - sometimes with her band, other times stripped down to just her and one instrument, a cappella, with full orchestra, etc. - so it is definitely worth listening to different versions of the same song. Also, her videos are mini-masterpieces as well. A short list of original songs: Runaway - Nobel Peace Prize concert and her music video Through the Eyes of a Child - Nidarosdomen concert, my recommendation Live Stripped - VIVO UK Lift It Happened Quiet - Nidarosdomen concert, but I'd recommend the live at The Current version as well Churchyard - Live on KEXP Winter Bird - Nidarosdomen concert and her music video Murder Song 5,4,3,2,1 - Nobel Peace Prize Concert Lucky - Nidarosdomen concert Little Boy in the Grass - Nidarosdomen concert The Seed - Music Video, HAIK Concert The River - Music video, Live in Bergen 2020 Exist For Love - Music video, Daydreamer - Music video She also does some awesome covers: Life on Mars - David Bowie Believer - Imagine Dragons God is a Woman - Ariana Grande Across the Universe - John Lennon Teardrop - Massive Attack Rasputin - Boney M And of course there is her recently released album which is pure gold!

Her videos are great, but live she is just of another world. She is also a fun, very smart, eclectic lady with so much empathy for the weak and struggeling. Many songs adfress that. Just that beginning was so interesting how you introduced her, how you think about her, like wow! One thing I must say personally and I know others can agree is that she's SO MUCH better live!!

She is as vulnerable as finely spun glass and as strong as high carbon steel. Her art rips you open and heals you at the same time. Who does that? She is a siren in the form of a wood nymph. Resistance is futile.

Welcome to the warriors and weirdos! I have know about Aurora sice she started.... but I was not a fan, I was your typical "that was nice" listening to the radio guy..... When covid hit and all my hobbies got shut down I started to listen to music again like I did in the 80's..... And I found Aurora.... I was so taken by her fantastic voice, her preforming with her entire body, heart and soul, and the most mindblowing fantastic of all: her pure and perfectly nonperfect person and messages. I had seen EVERYTHING on KZbin when I finally got to see her live in june. I was ready, I knew what to expect.... oh my I was wrong.... after the first song I stood there with my mouth open, slightly blue in my face as she made me forget to breath... I am sure I looked like a big dork! She was eaven better the next consert, I don't know how that was possible, but she was.... I don't know how to discribe it..... It is a bit like looking at a wonderful fireplace on tv, and think it look nice, but it is nothing like actually beeing in front of it and feeling it's warmth..... Check out Through the eyes of a child from Nidarosdomen consert!

Very nice reaction 🤗 She wrote this song when she was only 11 years old, and at that age she didn’t quite understand the meaning of the song. But as she grew older she knew that home meant home to her parents, and her mom is the softest place to fall. This is an important song for her, and one of few that actually are about herself💕 This song is even better live, especially at the Nobel Peace Prize concert 2015. Aurora (Aurora Aksnes) is a Norwegian singer/ songwriter/dancer/music producer from Os outside of Bergen, she plays several instruments like piano, guitar, mandolin and harp (what I know of) When she was 6 she found an electric piano in the attic, and she began writing music at that age. She began adding lyrics (English) at the age of 9. Her family didn’t know about her talent until she was about 13- 14 years old. She’s self taught 👍 She has some really great music videos like for example: “The Seed” “Queendom” “Winter Bird” “Running with the wolves” “Apple Tree” “I went too far” “The River” But she’s an amazing live performer, so captivating😍 Some of my favourite live performances by her are: “Through the eyes of a child” live from Nidarosdomen (cathedral in Norway) 2017 This is also one of her most important songs “It Happened Quiet” live at CURRENT This song was inspired by domestic violence, and in the end she (the victim) comes back to haunt him “Murder Song (5,4,3,2,1)” live at the Nobel Peace Prize concert 2015 This is about mercy killing “Daydreamer” live at the HAIK concert 2019 “Warrior” live at the HAIK documentary, this is a stripped down version, and was a surprise for both Aurora and two of her fans. She had only met one of the musicians before, and they had only one hour to rehearse before singing it in front of her two fans and the host. This is our, her fans Warriors and Weirdos, anthem 😊 “Exhale Inhale” live at VEVO Beautiful performance This is a song from her latest album released in January this year, and this performance was released a couple of months ago 😍

This was my entrance to AURORA’s world. And I haven’t got out ever since… in fact; I pull more people in. The 3rd of this month I took my daughter to a gig she did here in Amsterdam. Be prepared, she will absolutely give you chills as you hear her lyrics and hear her sing. She’s the mQueen of the World’ (at least to me), so she’s sings about mostly how she wants to see this place.

For someone her age she has been through a lot of stuff. She has one song about a friend she lost in the 2011 Norway terrorist attacks. And she had other tragedies in life. But also a good childhood in contrast. She finds a way to move forward. Might be why she has such a vast fan group. From teens to old war vets.

3:20 winters were long and the snow was high.. you sold me haha! I live in US Michigan where it snows a bit BUT NOT ENOUGH. I used to live in Florida, US and hated it. I love everything about the snow, shoveling it, coldness, the dark stillness as you walk through your neighborhood (or whatever you call it) while fast snowflakes fall. It's peaceful and majestic

I was born and raised in NY up to 10 y/o and then moved to Puerto Rico where my parents are from. I loved the winter season in NY, it was a beauty to watch the snow come down, especially at night and to wake up with 6,7,8 foot on the ground to play in. This is my 2nd song from Aurora and as she was singing a painting is what popped in my mind of all things that was given to us to protect, live from and enjoy. Then I felt sadness and despair. There is too much concentration on the negative and too many blinded to see what's important. I don't know if I'll make any sense to you Rosalie. I say live and let live because life is just too short. I enjoyed your reaction and agree with what you said. You make sense to me. You gave me an invitation and I accepted to join the community.

As always great reaction. I like her voice and the way she sings you can hear all of her influences in this one you have the nordic beats the almost folk style with a pop vocal over it all and it works I ilke the lyrics as well she has a different sound and she knows how to use it I like the almost shy way she sings. and as for the snow that you were talking about well I was born and raised in the Black Forest region and then I lived in the foothills of the mountians of Colorado for a long time so I know that feeling all too well and I love it. you always take us nice drives and I am here for them all cant wait for the next one thanks for being you and by the way also for the kind words yesterday. Your awesome dont forget that.

As this is one of her first releases, it is a joy to watch her musical development through the past years. You can't hardly imagine, but what she did lately to the tracks from her last album in a live setting, chilling is an understatement. This song was written when she was seven years old. She translated it to English when she was 14 and recorded it at age 16. A natural talent.
