To add further insult to injury, their nutrition stats aren't even accurately portrayed. Many of these contain maple syrup, such as the Skin Glaze, which should be listed as an added sugar. They seem to be trying to sneak past that despite maple syrup being naturally derived and not nearly as processed as cane sugar, it is still considered an added sugar and should be labeled as such. I promise you, they're not all that.

I go to my local Asain places because they're typically less sweet. Bakeries, bubble tea shops (you can request which percentage of sugar when ordering). Smoothie King started here, and you can always ask them to leave out the turbinado (sugar). I'm an American who wishes that more places/products would use less sugar. It's not necessary, especially in fruit smoothies.

I wonder if it’s extra sweet to ‘trap’ those who have a sugar addiction. Erewhon makes me think “health food” - it’s literally called skin smoothie, superfood, ect. - so those who want that sweet fix but want to be healthy will pay extra for health. They’ll believe it’s healthier, and worth their health to keep paying for it? And maybe people assumed it’s artificial sweetener because celebrities aren’t drinking that much processed sugar on the regular.

fructose is a monosaccharide just like glucose. It is not healthier just because it's natural (glucose is natural too by the way). But the overall nutritional value of a mango is of course higher than that of a piece of cake.

How does a turmeric smoothie have 73 grams of sugar!?!?

I have always been curious about this grocery store. I don’t live in the West Coast. I live on the East Coast and we do not have this grocery store. I guess the closest we would have as Whole Foods and I don’t think they are this expensive! Hopefully someday when I visit California, I can try one!

The sugar is mostly natural sugar with little added sugar. The sugar part seems okay and not too bad as its just from the fruit/maple syrup which is a natural sugar!

"Replacing refined sugar with pure, quality maple syrup is likely to yield a net health benefit, but adding it to your diet will just make things worse. Maple syrup is a less bad version of sugar, much like coconut sugar. It cannot objectively be labeled healthy. If you consume it, it’s best to do so in moderation - as with all sweeteners."

fruit is sweet enough, there is no good reason to add sugar to a smoothie. i don't worry about sugar from fruit but would never add maple syrup to a smoothie

The general recommended markup is 30-50% for food kiosks depending on whether or not they are specialty (all natural, organic, vitamin enhanced, etc.) and local minimum wage for employees. That considered, the prices aren't THAT outrageous for some of them. I guess it's a matter of whether you can justify spending that amount for one shake. 😬

I hope Ro makes a summers drink recipe book. I bet you it will change all our perspectives on how we make and drink our smoothies. Sign me up for the preorder 😂

I love making smoothies at home but they’re usually already sweet enough if you use in-season fruits. I don’t see the point in adding so much sugar

When you have figured out all the natural ways to dye things (like you mentioned with the blue smoothie), please make a video about it! I’d love to know what to do to have the fun of colors for kids without all the bad dyes. Having the nutritional/health/whatever other information with it would be nice, if possible, too😊

It's important to go back through these and explain the price per unit purchased. Like, if you buy all the ingredients with the intention of making multiple smoothies, how do the prices stack up compared to at-home? I don't have a lot of money, so I'd settle for making a smoothie out of just banana, blueberry yogurt, frozen strawberries, and honey.
