Who We Are...
Soon after it was opened, Hudson had friends in Motown and television such as Natalie Cole who would spread the word to other celebrities; Redd Foxx would tell his audience that he went there.
The Los Angeles Times refers to Roscoe's as "such an L.A. institution that people don't even question the strange combo anymore." The New York Times refers to it as a "beloved soul food chain". The original location in Hollywood remains popular with celebrities.
How We Became Famous...
In 2008, Roscoe's fielded a successful trademark infringement lawsuit against "Rosscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles" which had recently opened in Chicago.
The infringing store was forced to drop its infringing logo and name.A previous "Rosscoe's" had opened in New York City, but the LA-based chain opted to not sue that location because it had no plans to enter the market; however, Roscoe's did plan to enter the Chicago market.

Iced tea in America: We have what is called "sweet tea" and what is called "iced tea". Sweat tea is tea that is brewed and sweetened before it's chilled, giving it a very smooth sugary flavor. Iced tea is simply brewed and chilled tea. You can later add sugar, but sugar doesn't melt well in cold tea. So you get a harsher flavor and sugar crystals at the bottom of the glass. In the South, and most of the Southwest, "sweet tea" is the default if you ask for iced tea, whereas in the rest of the country unsweetened tea is usually the norm if you ask for iced tea. Also, in the South and much of the Southwest, you'll get free refills (bottomless cup) of sweet tea when you order it. Many chains (like McDonalds) serve both sweet and iced tea, differentiated by those names. However, I think any place that serves chicken and waffles should serve sweet tea as their default iced tea.

Iced tea varies around the US. In the midwest and maybe northeast, it's often canned/bottled or instant tea (like Nestea). In the south and west coast, it's usually fresh brewed and the south is likely to have your choice of pre-sweetened or unsweetened while other places that fresh brew will have you sweeten it yourself (like coffee). I'm not sure about the southwest, but I'm guessing it's a mix of fresh brewed or canned/bottled/instant. Having grown up in the south, I know I was disappointed the first time I ordered iced tea in Canada. :-( I do sometimes like the Nestea raspberry tea from soda fountains, though...but just don't think of it as tea.

Sweet ice tea is more of a southern thing here in the states. My grandma on my moms side was from Alabama. She always made sweet ice tea. My grandma on dad’s side was from Michigan. She made sun tea without sugar. Both were delicious

When I was out in LA I honestly had one of the best sandwiches of my life. I think the place was called ink sack. Any of their sandwiches looked awesome and their homemade crisps were awesome!! give it a go if you get a chance Ken!

ken i think i'd use my hands to eat the chicken, and use knife/fork for the waffle... alternating bites or chipmunking the chicken until i can get some waffle in my mouth too. i've personally never been a fan of waffles, but i love fried chicken and my taste buds are getting less picky as i get older so i think i would like to try this!

Born and raised in the southern USA and I have never cared for chicken and waffles. I have seen chickens beheaded, dipped in boiling water, plucked, gutted and dismembered then fried. With all that chicken experience, I still don't care for chicken and waffles. Maybe because I was an adult before I realized people at their fried chicken this way and it still seems odd to me. I'm convinced this is something northerners came up with and called "southern" food. We ate a lot of vegetables, chicken and sweet bread only, was never on the menu.
