@ReversedPolarity

This story packed quite the punch! The choice for the grandfather paradox was also neat considering the series was rebooted and this was a good starter into the bendy rules of time travel in Doctor Who, because it's the most common paradox people think about. I think it was perhaps the most perfect pitch for that first series. It just fit like a glove. Simple but very effective. I think Paul Cornell succeeded in making a very intemporal story, possibly my favourite of this season. For once, the Doctor had to keep up with a companion's problem and it's not him who saves the day. In fact, he's the tragic loss. It's not even the companion who has to make the tough call to fix her mistake. It's her dad. And the thing is, it's not the first time Pete Tyler would put himself on the line to do what is right rather than what is easy. Without knowing, Pete was burning up a sun just to say goodbye. And that... makes this story so incredibly powerful in my eyes.

This episode is one of the reason Rose is my favourite companion, she's written so realistically. Like seriously did Clara or Bill ever even once consider going back to save their parents? It's just never brought up in the modern series

@9nikolai 4 жыл бұрын
I'd say Rose was probably just the dumber one of them. Sure, a great person and companion and all that, but she definitely was one of the stupider companions the Doctor has had (not including one-offs). And it's not like Clara and Bill didn't ask the Doctor about paradoxes and such. Rose didn't even ask what could happen if she tried to save her dad, she just took advantage of the Doctor and only really went with him because he mentioned "travels in time". Sure, Rose was realistic. But people are so different that you can't really say a character is unrealistic unless they're acting completely contradictory to themselves. Even then that can be explained. Like how Clara was a control freak? She's just some random person with that personality trait that got connected with the Doctor because of Missy.
@seandabest4329
@seandabest4329 4 жыл бұрын
Clara tried to force the Doctor to save Danny, so this doesn't really hold up. Plus, that's actually a bonus for them having the emotional maturity needed to move on with their lives. Not saying that's bad about Rose's writing - characters should have flaws - but still.
@rtozier2011
@rtozier2011 4 жыл бұрын
Steven Moffat doesn't seem to care about family as much as RTD did. Brian Williams was never mentioned again in the show proper after Rory was trapped in the past, and Clara's family were never thought of again after she died in a sci-fi way in a secret location. For all we've been shown, her family still think she's missing.

New paradox's add more rips in time and space leaving gaps the Reapers could use as doorways. As to why vanish they are the literal being that can fix time by essentially absorbing things that shouldn't be to otherwise revert reality. him being old meant that he might be enough to perhaps keep them from attacking. He was clearly wrong.

@@NicoleM_radiantbaby He did tell her they were done in this episode, though it didn't last. But honestly, the reason, along with her motive being more sympathetic, is that he likes her better than Adam. He's a person and he plays favorites. And as the other Alexander said, it wasn't Rose's dimension cannon that threatened reality in Series 4. The damage from Davros's reality bomb was what made the walls of reality thin enough for the cannon to start working when it hadn't before. The cannon itself didn't cause any damage (and stopped working after the bomb was dealt with). Rose did no harm there. .
