Over 10 years ago, I bought a pair of Caterpillar boots. I decided I didn't particularly like the design when I got them home, and put them in a closet. I recently took them out, and tried them on. The midsole completely disintegrated. I wish I'd known that TPU had that susceptibility. I see Caterpillar are still selling very similar boots in the £100-£130 range. I'll be sticking to more traditional materials in future. I've kept the upper, insole, and outsole. I might try reconstructing it with a leather midsole at some point for entertainment. It wouldn't make sense to take it to a cobbler for that. The construction quality is too cheap to justify the expense.
@Neomalthusiano
@Neomalthusiano Жыл бұрын
That happens with more shoes than not, it's not an issue of caterpillar's. The only way to avoid that is to store shoes susceptible in a humidity-controlled dry environment.

@dalriada842
@dalriada842 Жыл бұрын
@@Neomalthusiano A humidity-controlled dry environment is a difficult thing to accomplish in damp Scotland. I don't want the expense of buying, and running, a dehumidifier. I brought out other pairs of shoes and trainers that had been in my closet for a long time, and seemed to use a similar material in their construction. They seem okay for the time being, but I will be prioritising their use before they fall apart on me. The annoying thing is that I quite like the feel of these spongy synthetic midsoles. Live and learn. It'll be leather from now on. I have bought the leather to reconstruct the boots that fell apart, along with leather working tools. Now I just need to find the time for it. I wish I hadn't given away the cast iron shoe anvil set that I inherited from my father. One of my ancestors was a cobbler. I've given a number of things away over the years that I now regret. That's definitely one of them.
@dalriada842
@dalriada842 Жыл бұрын
@@HistoricGentleman I generally hate buying clothes and shoes. About once a decade, I'll buy a load of them to see me through the next ten to fifteen years. I've had things no longer fit before when I try them on later, or decide I don't like the style. These get given to charity. This is the first time that something I bought new has completely disintegrated on me. Though I have experienced a few other occasions where rubberised materials start to 'sweat' and disintegrate.

I had a friend in the 90’s who had a pair of Moon boots.. they were skiing fashion, and through winter he wore them at Uni, they were really cool and good fun. We were artists, so it was ok. But I think people should play if they want. It’s not chaos so much as it is debugging the stasis of ordinary. Girls would rock in these pretty well. The guys, yeah they can do it:)

I'm not familiar with this brand at all so I have to thank you for keeping me up to date lol. I'm often amazed at what's considered art these days..... and then I remember the paper dresses that women wore in the 60's that started off as mail order dresses from the Scott paper company (better known for their toilet tissue) for pennies and shortly after fashion designers were selling hand painted paper dresses and gowns for thousands of dollars. They remained in fashion for much of the 60's decade. These made me think back to artists creations in my young life when I found it absolutely wonderful to know someone was able and willing to think and step outside the box and realize I would've thought that these were Interesting before, which in reality makes it hard for me to criticize them now. It's good to know creativity on this level still exists, and that not only are they a work of art but the company put real effort into making them functional. That for the time they last they really will be functional and although clunky, pretty comfortable as well. I for one would LOVE to see the wavy shoe cut in half. 😁

I bet they'd be great in snow. If you had to walk through 10 inches to a foot of snow to get to the store or wherever, these would probably be wonderful. With the hollow voids they'd be pretty well insulated. The large footprint would be grippy and lessen the amount you'd sink into the snow.(Like a snowshoe) They appear to be waterproof. SO yeah if you had to walk in deep snow, with these boots, it appears that your feet would stay warm & dry. Are there more practical solutions to walking in snow? For sure. are these boots fun and silly and lighthearted? Again, for sure. Another commenter said these would be great for cosplay. They'd be a good starting point for building up a beastly pair of feet or the feet of a mech by adding more foam, fur, claws, spikes ..whatever, and then painting them or covering them in an appropriate material to achieve the look for the costume.

Have you ever put a pair of Keen boots through your tests? It’s too late for me to see it before I buy them but I own two pairs of them, two pairs of their sandals and one pair of their shoes. I didn’t purposely set out to get Keens. It just happened that way. Those were the ones I liked. Now I’m curious to see what you think of them. Are they good quality? Mine seem to be and they are comfortable (after kind of a tough break in period on one pair).

Question: I see that you want boots to cause a bounce in the bar drop, but I have Footprint Kingfoam insoles which sell based on deadening an impact, especially for skateboarding. I'm thinking maybe it's two different things maybe going on and that maybe these don't contradict. I have spinal issues so i wear them to absorb impact, not to return energy. am i doing the right thing?
@NorthernChev
@NorthernChev Жыл бұрын
The three-chambered section above the foot is a squish chamber so you can get your feet into and out of them. That chamber collapses so your foot can angle in and angle out. See the cutaway to understand.

Greetings from Canada! I don't know if you take requests from the comments section, but I was wondering if you'd be willing to make a video on some Canadian made work boots? There are dozens of companies to choose from here, like dayton, Canada West, and companies that also have very unique boot designs, like manitobah Also, seeing reviews about Canada West's 34309 lace-up boot or Daytons 6406 csa work boot would be good because I've been looking at purchasing those, but no reviews exist about them online. Thanks for making such great videos!🇨🇦

Excellent analysis. I’d seen these boots around online endlessly (as well as the collective’s other art/commerce pranks), and I LOVE Astro Boy… Even though he’s SO important in the history of Anime, he’s not the first or the “grandfather of all animation” by a long shot. The first Anime feature was 1945’s Momotaro: Sacred Sailors, and the first animated film was Fantasmagorie in 1908.
