More about the comfort to me. I had some blazers a couple years ago. They were a special version from Nike in a brown leather. Loved the look of them, but just normal walking caused so much pain in my feet, knees, etc. They’re basically a barefoot shoe and you have to walk differently in them. If I’m going with a casual sneaker, I would prefer something AF1-like or new balance 990-like where there is a ton of foam/rubber/air unit, to cushion walking around in them.

The problem of a “real Ollie patch” on a 500 shoes is the fact that real skateboarding is extremely hard on footwear and a 490 shoe might blow out in a similar time frame as a 90 shoe depending on how hard the skater is going. Skateboarding is a sport that benefits from an economy of scale as skate shoes are a disposable item and cost plays a huge factor in an item you are going to take, essentially, many many scrapes on high grit sandpaper and plywood (sometimes even fiberglass or carbon fiber). But from a style perspective of course it would be nice. I’d just never seriously skate 500 shoes so I don’t care whether or not it’s got an Ollie patch. The heavy rubbers and plastics in core skate brand shoes have found ways to last as long without increasing price

Price of these isnt justified. Crown North Hamptons are priced much lower for most options and they actually have years to justify that cost. These guys are making a great shoe but that markup is seriously unreasonable.
@Type-T14 Жыл бұрын
The price is mostly because of the high manufacturing costs. 160-170 is alot (for example balenciaga uses 130 to make their track sneakers) charging more and not decreasing quality makes sense.

These are definitely nicer than Blazers but I don't really think they're worth 5x the price. Crown Northampton are a great comparison, actually. Well, in my opinion while the opie's have a better quality and craftsmanship, the blazer isn't the blazer without the swoosh, and while that might sound dumb at first, without the most iconic part of the shoe, you essentially have a converse that's a little off. So i guess the best of both worlds would be to sew the swoosh on the opie's, but i get that might seem heretic because of the quality of leather. That's just my opinion tough

Well, it's a basketball shoe that isn't going to be worn as a basketball shoe, so I don't think it needs to hew to the cushiony interior insole elements of a basketball shoe as tightly. Beautiful shoes. You didn't mention aesthetics, but they are far-and-away better looking than most shoes of that type. Pairing those with slacks, a blazer and a t-shirt would be a fantastic look. They could also work with nice shorts and a casual linen button-up. I applaud Opie for not taking shortcuts and delivering an alternative to mass produced Blazers. Makes me wish that I would have bought a pair of those instead of the 7 pairs of Adidas sitting in my closet. I do love my Adidas collection, but would be much prouder to wear Opies and support small business. And let's face it, I'm in my 50's and rarely wear out shoes anymore, so the value per wear isn't that big of a factor. I see some Opie shoes in my future.

You might want to add another comparison test, although I'm not sure how you would do it. Just how long would the subject shoe last under typical use. Might also add a few subjective areas too - like overall fit & finish, how they feel while walking, climbing steps, just general use. Maybe even a short sprint. I have to add - it hurt watching those beautiful shoe go under the saw.
