Love you having to reassure the men to stick around and explain to them there are women in their life who might enjoy boots lol. As one of your female fans I went from getting knock off docs, to real docs, to Nicks, to omg I can't wait until my nicks arrive so I picked up some Redbacks while I continue to wait for my Nicks Urban Loggers in about a year's time. I might not do construction anymore, and I wish I had looked into quality boots then, but I can still appreciate something that's going to last, something that's going to hold up, something that will be just as comfortable on cement floors or a wooden stage, in my garage, traveling or anything else I put them through. I'm a little curious to see if TSA questions why there are so many nails in my boots when I take my Nicks to Germany

I have the 1907's. I don't have the Grantstones. I would also put the 1907's at #1, but strictly by personal preference. I completely believe that looking at materials or construction quality, the Grantstones may have a slight edge (though I think some of the "advantages" are preference based). Being that I am a regular guy living in the real world, though, I have to admit that some things that might not objectively matter or things that we are supposed to ignore in certain instances for the sake of comparison are still going to matter to me. I like the heritage and history of Redwing. I like that the 1907's are made in USA. I also very much appreciate the value of the 1907's, looking at what I get vs what I have to spend. So, when I look at the fact that the 1907's cost less while simultaneously being made in USA, along with the very high quality of the boots, it's an easy choice for me.

I am a dairy farmer and have been for almost 50 years. My boots go on at 4 am and come off at 8 pm everyday. I have worn Red Wings all my career and absolutely love the durability. I can get a year out of them and then a resolve and get another 6 months. My problem is now finding my size. I wear a size 16eeee boot and my shoe dealer has told me that Red Wing is no longer going to be making that size. I have been doing internet searches and can’t find any of the quality boot makers making boots in my size. Really don’t want to go to sneakers or hiking boot so if anybody could give me any leads I would greatly appreciate it.

I would suggest looking into Franks Boots. They do a lot of custom work and you can send in a fit sheet so they can build the boots to your exact foot shape. The boots are going to be expensive but you can send them in to get resoled as well as rebuilt (removing and replacing the sole and the lower section of leather on the boot). Those two services will grant you lots of longevity with your boots. Hope you are able to find a boot builder that fits your needs!

I went with the Carolina CA7811 (steel toe), partly because it's US made in a union but mostly because it was just the most comfortable out of all the ones I could try, including Red Wing and Thorogood. Absolutely love my Carolina CA7811 boots! They're built arguably as well as the Red Wing's and Thorogood's. What ultimately sold me on the Carolina's is they're super comfortable right out of the box and have almost no break-in period like the Red Wing and Thorogoods. They're as comfortable after 2 years as they were the first day! The Carolina's are $80 cheaper than the Thorogoods and $100 cheaper than the Red Wing's, too!

I watched some reviews that Rose Anvil did on Indonesian boots and decided to give Sagara a shot. Hand-made by Bagus in Indonesia with quality materials. I opted for their hiker boot with green Badalassi veg tan leather with a wedge sole and they are absolutely beautiful in hand. Quite heavy due to the amount of leather but none of my boots turn heads like the Sagaras. Absolutely recommended. They’re my favorite (next to the Nicks mic toes I recently received which are superb) currently within my boot line-up that includes multiple red wings, grant stones, Allen Edmonds, etc. The only issue with MTO is the lead time but the wait is well worth it for a custom boot.

Well, I really like my White's Perry. Price and materials are a great value. The fit is spot on. I have been wearing them in the house cause I don't want to ruin them in winter time. I thought my Danner Bull Runs would be ranked a little higher. I got 3 years out of them before I had them resoled. And, they had heavy use in the transportation field.. I did also get another pair of Danners for weekends cause they are the best looking black leather I have found. I will think about the Red Wing 1907 cause you make that a better boot then the Iron Ranger. Thanks for a outstanding series on Moc Toes. They are my favorite type of boot and, I know I am a small segment of boot wearers...

Thorogood is definitely better because they're not overpriced, they are comfortable without needing a special last, and are a perfect wedge sole work boot at a decent price. They have a solid place / purpose. The Alden is kind of lost, more of a high top dress shoe than a utilitarian boot and the materials aren't as premium as the price when that matters even more in the world of dress shoes. BTW if I'm not mistaken, Weinbrenner sources their leather from Horween, no the Thorogoods aren't Chromexel ( the 1892 series used it though) but the leather is tanned by Horween, and unlike the aldens there's no heavy pigment on top.

Hi Mr Anvil! Great channel! love watching your vids. I was wondering whether you would contemplate doing some tests on British/European varieties of shoes? Over here in the UK we can get some US made boot brands very easily (namely redwing, thorogood, Danner etc), but others are harder to come by. However, there are lots of European made boots (I just bought a nice moc toe boot from an online store that's made in Portugal for what seems like great value) so might be interesting content to compare the quality against US boots? I sold my Red Wing 1907s and bought a pair of Madison II moc toe boots from Sorel ($170 on sale). I couldn't be happier with my decision. While the Red Wings will last longer, the Sorels are profoundly more comfortable, lighter and have a more attractive shape (the 1907s can sometimes look like clown shoes). Every time I wore the 1907s it felt like I had cinder blocks on my feet. Even after breaking them in, I found myself avoiding them because of the weight and lack of comfort. The Red Wing can be re-soled, but what percentage of people will actually re-sole a boot? Probably less than 25 percent. For the people who genuinely find the 1907 comfortable, by all means rock them, it's a great boot if it works for you.

Thought about trying the Thorogoods just to compare but after this video I think I’ll stick with the Red Wings. BTW china is not just another country like Mexico, they are Communists! Big difference. Thanks for the video.🇺🇸✌🏻🇺🇸

So many of these boots seem designed for people who just want to wear boots rather than shoes, but not necessarily a specific purpose. Have you ever done a ranking of upland bird hunting boots as I’ll probably be looking for a new pair for this fall? Thanks.

I just ordered the Ecco staker because of your review Here in Germany they’re sold for less than 140$ , I hope they’re worth the money 🤞 After graduating med school, I should be able to upgrade from there and get into redwing territory 🥾💸💪

Something I find remarkable is that here in Australia, the Red Wing 875 costs $575 while the Thorogood American Heritage is somehow as low as $127.91! Sure it would be nice to have the option of a leather in-sole but the price difference makes it a no-brainer when I could buy four pairs of Thorogoods and still have money left over.

No joke, just had a look and you're right. Going to buy a pair of Thorogood's for my next work boot - that seems insane value. Happy to see they do steel caps!

@@MegaChadwhickwhere did you find them for around that price?

What about Grant Stone brass boot? I love mine. Field boot is great too. Both much easier to break in and wear than Redwing 1907.

GS just came out with the field boot and sponsored the video about it, to get attention about their new boot. That's why he hasn't looked at the brass boot. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Weston has looked at any GS boots unsponsored

I own both lasts (45 and 23) of the Red wings, the 1907's and some 8863's (slate muleskinner) and I've got to tell you, the 1907's are on a whole other level. The 1907's had virtually no break in period while the 8863's were BRUTAL! As far as comparing them to the Grant Stones...I've never owned them, and your video was very informational. In the end... They're not Red Wings! But really, it's the aesthetics of the field boot that's a deal breaker. The construction quality just doesn't make up for how unappealing I find them. 1907's for me... ALL DAY! (side note: the 1907's probably won in the poll because not as many people own the Field Boot as the 1907's. I've never even seen them in real life. Let's be honest, Red Wing owners, me included, are fanatical)

Would you consider doing a video on the Clarks Durston Hi warm lined. It's also a mock toe. I just bought a pair and am curious about it's construction and you do a bang up job at dissecting and explaining what makes a good and bad boot

Surprised not to see White's Moc Toe in the review or on the list. Got them for Christmas and couldn't be happier.

Grant Stone Brass Boot is a real contender too! Though made in China, when you actually see where they source their materials, they are buying a good portion in U.S. Also learning their background and philosophy, it’s clear they are ethical people.

I may not understand how you ranked the boots or how boots were to be included. But having said that I wold rank the Grant Stone Brass boot as one of the top boots. It may be that it is too refined for some but as a boot that can arguably be worn for business casual or even in a more dress setting and at work. I understand it is not a "work" boot but I do not think you can discount the materials, construction or design of the boot. It is simply excellent.

Will you test brands like Magnanni, Mephisto and Santoni. Especially the boosts made by them.
