Took me years to pull the trigger on a pair of Nick’s boots. When I finally did, it was a huge eye opener. You get what you pay for. I’m a welder/fabricator, for over 20 years. I typically had to get a new pair of steel toe boots every year or two. Usually Carolina’s or Red Wings loggers. I’ve been wearing the same pair of Nick’s at work, and outside of work, every single day for the past 6 years. Buy once, cry once. 😉

This fitment has to include the socks, wearing extra socks will destroy the fit. The boots and socks really should be like a kit with the socks chosen before the boots are fit. My standard Nick's are the heaviest boots I've ever owned, I don't even want to think about lifting the "indestructible" over and over for 12 hours. Sometimes you can armor something too much. It's very similar to the problem to he Soviets ran into with the IS-7 tank, you can armor something beyond usefulness.
@edenironworks22 жыл бұрын
@@jacktheaviator4938 it's often said that a pound on the feet is 5 on the back. So these boots would be extremely tiring. There are a small number of use cases/environments where these boots would be useful, but a solid smokejumper with a steel toe would be noticeably lighter and cheaper while being 90-95% as durable and lasting 80-90% as long.

Made with pride in the USA by skilled craftsmen. Let's elevate craftsmanship to the level it once was and should still be appreciated for
@tattedupchrist11053 жыл бұрын
What’s sad is quality is kinda a niche market now. People would prefer to buy cheap and buy multiple times vs buy once and have something forever. For example, I’ve got some American made tools I’ve used at work for years and years and they are as good as new, and I’ve got some cheap Vietnam made ones that break often and always buying new ones. The cheap ones will outsell the expensive ones to the average consumer. Especially ones that only need a cheap one to get the job done. It’s sad but it’s logical and actually a better deal for most in the long run. Most industries are like that now, quality manufacturers can’t compete with the cheap ones products that are basically meant as single use or limited use. My American made Danner boots lasted 2x as long as the Chinese made ones that are really similar, but cost half as much. So I could get the same use out of the same ammount of money but for some it makes sense to spend less up front.
@escapetherace19433 жыл бұрын
@@tattedupchrist1105 don't remind me it makes me cry... If I buy a tool I want it to break because I was dumb and abused it wrong, otherwise I want it to last forever, or be able to maintain close to forever. Not enough quality in anything anymore, it's sad. People are addicted to the CONSUME lifestyle. Not only is this stuff cheaper, but you get the dopamine of constantly buying stuff, you're 50 dollars away from a hit of happiness and it's in the trash the next week.

@tattedupchrist11053 жыл бұрын
@@dashwolf8057 unfortunately your right and I agree with you to an extent. I’m right there with you. I have plenty of cheap tools. But we should be more careful, because hand tools aren’t the only thing we outsource to bring the price of production down. BUT places like China not only steal our intellectual property, but actively try to undermine and undercut US companies. Billions of dollars a year are lost to China because of fraud and counterfeit goods. That might not sound like a big deal when talking about shoes or hand tools. But when talking about something like a semiconductor, or a cell phone, etc.. it becomes a little sketchy. The same country that gives you a $20 dollar VCR also tolerates Chemists selling fentanyl to the average joe in America. It’s like trusting your neighbor who is a thief and you who you are enemies with, to manufacture the security camera for your house and the lock for your front door. @@elliottlarson2221 The Danners are "OK" if you work at a desk, I find they are comfy for about 6 months but the leather and nylon/canvas (if that's what it even is) can't hold up if you're in the field, dessert and forget about the of Afghanistan, that place will shred most any sole of a boot in less than six months if you're actively out patroling. But you don't need to be Infantry to have the cemented soles fail on those boots, even those that actively work in a motorpool or warehouse (SSA) or put 5-6 miles (or more) on a day around a base will have those boots failing within a year. Sadly, the old black leather boots from almost 20 years ago (I'm thinking Cohcoran "jump boot" variant (basically a cap toe) were ok in the sense that they had traction (Vibram soles), were comfortable after break-in, stitching wouldn't fall apart and could be re-soled! But they were too hot in the dessert and weren't warm enough in Europe during the winters. If they weren't warm enough in Europe I'm sure they weren't warm enough in Korea although the Bellville's Gortex "Mattahorn" was good but heavy.

A year late, but I’ll put in my 2 cents. I’ve worked in a shopping/receiving environment for years. If there’s one thing that will destroy leather boots, it’s working around pallets. For those that aren’t in the know, it’s the dropping of pallets and squeezing the boots in between pallets that does the trick, along with box cutters that slip at the right angle. I’ve gone through half a dozen work boots, even ones with polyurethane on the outer toe for protection, and pallets just eat through then. Scraping, cutting, and tearing through leather like nothing. There is one exception: Roughout leather boots. They can handle all the abuse without any kind of visible damage. Only problem is they discolor and darken to an embarrassingly degree if tanned on the lighter side. But work boots aren’t there to look pretty. Hope this helps.

I had to pay their website a visit to see what kind of insane price you have to pay to get boots at this quality and I was chocked. not on how expensive they are, just that they cost less than twice what my work boots cost which is really reasonable when taking into account that they are hand made and a piece of art. unfortunately am I not living in the us so I can't simply order a pair cause I think the shipping, toll and tax when it enters the country will be far too high to be worth it which is a bummer.
