I work at Red Wing in the welt department and make these almost every day. I need to correct you on one thing. The welt is stitched on with the black thread you see, into the rib beneath the insole. The midsole (that thin, almost invisible layer beneath the welt) is stitched onto the welt with the white thread that runs around the top of the welt. Glad to see people enjoying the stuff I help make 👍

Seriously? It completely defeats the purpose of a review to be sponsored by the company who makes the product. They have those already--they're called advertisements. He was obviously picking and choosing when to criticize random shit, like sneaker shanks and chrome tanning. Personally, I haven't watched a Rose Anvil video in months because I was tired of the bias. Now that I know he's not taking sponsors, I'm definitely gonna keep up with the channel.

On one hand I understand for him, the financial aspect of it, the problem is you let the company hand pick their product so it might not be representative of what the average consumer experience with the brand might be. Also even if I do believe in his integrity I can understand why someone would think he might be less incline to criticize the company that sponsored him. I would pay $80-$100 for a pair a boots once or twice a year. Always buying a new brand or model trying to find something better. One day my wife said to try on some redwings. They were $225. I ended up buying them. I’ve had the same pair for 4 years and they’re still great. Definitely the best bang for buck boots I’ve found. $200 a year, every single year on carhardt or Cat boots. Or $225 for 4 + years. No brainer

I’ve owned 6 pairs of the 10877’s (work version of the 877 heritage), 1 pair of the 877 heritage boot, a pair of Thorogoods, a pair of Irish Setters and about 5 other styles of Redwing boots. The 10877’s are by far my favorite boots. The Thorogood boots feel amazing when trying them on, but can’t compare to the comfort of the 10877’s after the 2 week break-in. The Redwing boots can be worn 16 hours a day, 6 days a week with a resole every 6 months. Yes, I’m a hard working family man in the construction field. The Thorogood’s broke down faster and are much heavier at the base, leg and body fatigue sets in after 8 hours. The 8” Redwing will feel like a sock after 1 month of use, the Thorogood felt heavier and heavier as the year went on. Getting an 8” boot allows you to lock the boot further up your leg which keeps you firmly planted in the boot and allows your leg to lift the boot rather than your ankle. Also, the 877 heritage leather felt heavier over the 10877 and I like the black eyelets on the 10877 over the nickel on the 877’s. Love these cutaway vids!! Dope channel.

I’ve owned several pairs of this model. One important note and what makes them exceptional in a way is the leather reinforcing on the interior friction areas. Where most boots use a fabric of some kind that wears through overtime, redwing adds a leather piece that polishes smooth with friction and never wears out. In my opinion that’s what contributes most to the longevity of these boots.

Until that time I wore Timberlands ... anyway , I asked a random carpenter on my site why do they all wear that specific boot. The guy pretty much said just try a pair on. I went & did just that , I went & tried a pair on & ended up buying the 8inch heritage boot. I’ve never bought a diff brand since , it literally feels like you’re working with slippers on. I'd caution any welder to please avoid moc toe boots. They will catch and hold welding/grinding sparks. Also, the stitching will eventually burn up, causing the boot to come apart. I bought the Thorogoods today. I was at a shop that sold Thorogoods ($169), Red Wings ($219) & Danners ($159); so I was able to try on and walk around in all three brands’ mock toe boots. All looked good, felt good and appear well built. All three were quite comfortable and I was splitting hairs on deciding. If I had been at a shop that only sold one brand, I probably could have left with any of these boots and been happy. In the end, to me, the Thorogoods fit slightly better, felt more comfortable from the start, and the leather was softer; all points Rose Anvil stated here. I have become use to using speed hooks on all of my other boots, so I liked that they are on the Thorogoods & Danners over the eyelets on the Red Wings. I do wish Thorogood would have used speed hooks all the way to the top instead of a top eyelet; it’s a little awkward having to stop speed lacing to the thread the top eyelet. The Thorogoods are a little taller, which I liked since I will be wearing these when I ride my motorcycle. All three boots are very nice and made in the USA; a tough decision.

The reason I love them is there is no break-in (for me and that particular style), I picked them up on a Sunday and wore them to work all day Monday with no issues, none it was like I had been wearing them for years.
