Finally someone who shows that you can condition suede as long as you brush after etc.
@franminanicollier94319 ай бұрын
The especially frustrating thing is pretty much all the conditioners, including the Leather Milk Weston used, say explicitly not to use on suede or nubuck. I think it's only because the conditioner company assumes you don't know what you're doing, and it's hard to tell if a conditioner says not to use on suede because it'll change it, or because they don't trust you.
@CybertroninfiniteOfficial8 ай бұрын
@@franminanicollier9431 the main reason is that those conditioners will unnap or remove the nappy nature of suede if users do not brush after, which a lot of consumers do not. I got "suede conditioner spray" which is just mick oil in a can lmao. Honestly disappointing since I already had bick 4

Great video reminded me to get tending my Birkenstocks, was taught by a lovely German lady to use cork sealant like Collonil for the sole sides. Also said to size by having a fingers space at the heal as she said a lot of people size to small which leads to the heal break up. On open toe you leave space at the front so your foot isn’t snug but moves within the footbed. The cleaning the the footbed and restoring the nap was something it took me times to realise leading to cracking on the footbed. Birkenstock used to do cleaning kits and cork sealant with conditioner like the stuff I use. Mines actually cracked after being left at home for weeks unused when I went on holiday

95% of these tech transplant workers in Seattle who think they are 'being cool locals' by wearing birkenstocks have an entire size too small for their feet because despite making 200K plus at 20/30 years old, they still cannot think for themselves and have zero clue about basic physics/engineering as it would apply to the ergonomic function of birkenstocks with having the extra heal space.

I just accidentally put my swim bag on top of my brand new oiled leather Birkenstocks. They are tobacco color and now on one side has 3grey spots. I don’t know if it’s just water spot or if any sunscreen lotion got on them. I took a damp towel and rubbed. Made the spots bigger. Hopefully they dry the normal color and not with water spot ring or the gray spots they currently have! I just bought them only had a week and were $150!!!

For cleaning my oiled leather Birkenstock Arizonas, it seems like I could follow the same process, but probably just a soft toothbrush to clean it and skip the brass bristle brush step. Is that correct? Do I condition the same way? Do you think you could create another video about cleaning oiled leather Arizonas?

Weston! This was so informative. I got a pair of Nicks boots full rough-out leather and couldn’t find a single reliable video on how to clean them properly. Everyone says “don’t use saddle soap don’t use saddle soap” any way you could make a video explaining WHY not to use saddle soap? Then show a proper method for cleaning rough-out leather. Is it the same process as suede? Thanks for the awesome videos!

What are your thoughts on the soft sole Birkenstocks? Apparently they’re the same as the regular ones just with a little bit of foam on top of the cork midsole to make them more squishy. Wouldn’t you argue that this might be more comfortable at first but worse later on since foam doesn’t keep that shape of your foot as good as just a cork midsole?
@oppositeofh8 Жыл бұрын
i've tried those on in the store, a few times, & my overall take is they've ruined the whole shoe. it's almost like: why bother with the cork? the cork fits right away & supports your foot perfectly. that gel layer they put between the lining & the footbed feels like it needs to be broken in & flat & clumsy. personally, i'm sticking with the originals -- if it ain't broke, don't fix it. i almost feel like birkenstocks is trying to cut back on the amount of cork, so they're trying to compensate by adding the gel layer. too gimmicky.
@jdlackey88 Жыл бұрын
I own both, the Soft Foot Bed does provide some squish but it stinks like foam and lengthens the break in process because you are smashing down the foam first. The classic footbed just smells like leather and immediately starts to conform to your feet. To me, the EVA outsole provides enough shock absorption.
@shanebep3135 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I wouldn't go with the foam ones, Birkenstock is known for their cork so why go away from that. Also personally, I find the spongy foam can cause you to walk improperly and gives you a higher chance of rolling your ankle, my adidas are like that.

Found this EXTREMELY helpful! Thank you so much for sharing a real way to get the Suede Birks clean! I have been terrified to clean mine! 😂 Would you recommend the same process if they got wet from grass in the yard? Mine are great except that after I walked through the yard, the toe box got wet but when they dried, they still looked watermarked/stained. There is a clear line separating the normal color and darker color of the suede.

Yes, I use this method on roughout moccasins I wear around the house and cooking outside. Another method is mix the bick 4 with some water to thin it, then mix well and apply with a spray bottle. After a good brushing both methods work out great. Stick with the less heavy conditioners though. Anything with wax won't work as well

How are birkenstocks sized compared to redwings?
@jdlackey88 Жыл бұрын
Birkenstocks are actually true to size. I wear a 12 in Red Wings and wear a 44 in Birks (about a US 11). Measure your foot on a piece of paper like they detail on their sizing guide and buy that size unless you like them floppy then go one size up. However, I would HIGHLY recommend you try them on in person cause it's all about how they hit your toes and arch. They are very contoured, it's not just a flat slab of foam like other shoes.

I’m one of those people with ‘anti’ ASMR, so the sounds and lingering shots are intolerable to me without something to distract my attention a little.
