I am so pleased that this was submitted and played, and reviewed by Harri. Thank you for that, Blue Eyed Kansan and Harri. Rosetta Tharpe was a groundbreaking musician who paved the way for new artists and genres. “Folk, Rock, R&B, Boogie Woogie, Jazz, Blues, and Gospel, at a minimum, were all of the genres on which she had a great deal of impact. She began singing and playing guitar at age 6 as part of her mother's traveling Evangelical group as early as the 1920s. In the 1930s and 40s, her honed guitar skills and vocals were nearly unheard of and gained her some overdue recognition. She heavily influenced the likes of Little Richard, Chuck Berry, and Elvis Presley, to name just a few. She was finally inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.

Right here is the person who created Rock ‘n’ Roll. The fact that her name’s not on everyone’s lips is freaking criminal. Most people have never even heard of her! You can see how she influenced everyone who came after her. I LOVE when during her guitar solo she lifts her hand and rocks! “Rain, rain , rain, rain, rain...Rain, rain, rain, rain, rain!!!”. Chuck Berry swiped that phrasing for his song: “Little Queenie”. All Hail Sister Rosetta ❤

Preach! (Says the guy who’s not religious 😅) I only discovered Sister Rosetta Tharpe in recent years, but when I did I was stunned about how little she’s mentioned and how few people are aware of her. It’s blasphemy if you ask me.
@kleenextoes430 Жыл бұрын
@@NathanVeenstra Well that shows just how great she really is: she’s got even the non-religious among us preaching! 😂 I’m right with you, Nathan. She’s someone I learned about in recent years too. I found out Elvis, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, etc...all loved her and were influenced by her. It’s beyond crappy she’s been kept so under the radar. The only thing that could make this video better is if her purse was hanging off her arm as she performed.

When it comes to music it seems the UK is always ahead of the US. It took American blues musicians to go to the UK in the 60's to create the British Invasion.

@@georgesheffield1580 A bunch of blues musicians, including Howlin Wolf, went to the UK and gave concerts which influenced the young people. Thus helping to create bands like The Animals, The Kinks and many others. When those British bands came to the US the kids including myself had no idea that this had occured.

Muddy Waters and Sister Rosetta Tharpe's 'mind-blowing' station show Published 7 May 2014 By Chris Long, BBC News The show [on Thursday, 7 May 1964] at Whalley Range's Wilbraham Road station, recorded for Granada TV as the Blues and Gospel Train, saw greats including Muddy Waters and Sister Rosetta Tharpe perform. Shortly after the train which carried the audience the few miles south from Manchester's city centre pulled in, a storm lashed the station. Mr Hamp says the downpour would have been his worst memory of the show had it not led to his best. "Sister Rosetta came to me and asked if she could change her opening number to Didn't It Rain?," he said. "When she strapped on her guitar, it was astounding."

Sister Rosetta Tharpe was an American singer & guitarist. She attained popularity in the 30's-40's with her gospel recordings & was referred to as "the original soul sister" & "the Godmother of rock & roll". She influenced early rock & roll musicians, including Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley & Jerry Lee Lewis. Tharpe was a pioneer in her guitar technique & used heavy distortion on her electric guitar. Her style of playing influenced British guitarists such as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck & Keith Richards. Some of her songs are "Rock Me", "That's All", "My Man & I", "The Lonesome Road", "This Train", "Down By The Riverside", "Strange Things Happening Every Day" etc.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Frame is a joke, as far as who is in, who isn't in. In my opinion, the are artist in the RRHOF, that have no real right for being there yet. As there are those that should have been enrolled, but as of yet, have not. There seems to be no real consistent measure of greatness.
