A thin layer of icing on the inside of each ring will make it easier to stick the cakes together, plus fill in some space. Still, beautiful cake, and very nice!

Do you ever trim the caramelization/edges from your cakes? Makes for a prettier reveal and this cake looked pretty dense

Hi, normally I don't need to but this one here unfortunately came out coloured. I added a tad too much batter to the cake tins (you live, you learn x) thanks for the tip though! xx

Nick from the scran line also loves to make those colorful cakes but they never turn into that brown. I wonder why, is it supposed to be that brown or is it overcooked? Which one tasted better?

I read your comment above that you grabbed the wrong size cake tin it should have been an 8 inch, but you seem to use 7 inch and 5 inch a lot, are they better sizes to work with?

if you cover them with the aluminum paper how do you know when they are ready? I usually watch the cakes through the oven door and when I think they are done I insert a toothpick in the middle to make sure they are ready.

How do you cool your cakes? Because always when i place my cakes in the fridge their are sweating, when i take them out :(
@xvickibabyx8 жыл бұрын
when you get them out of the oven leave them to completely cool in the tin then take them out of the tin and wrap it in cling film and leave over night there better to cut etc if left over night, if your cakes are sweating it maybe your fridge temperature is to high hope this helps x

We will see, i will try it the next time :D Thank you so much!

I always freeze my cakes & let them thaw in the frigde for 24 hours before leveling & frosting them. They are super moist & taste better than if you eat them the day you bake them! Try it :)
8 жыл бұрын
Thank you :D My biggest problem is, when i put them covered with fondant in the fridge an then take them out, the fondant gets a little bit sticky because of the temperature difference :( I hope you undersand me, my english is pretty bad :D
@grammyallen65588 жыл бұрын
Wrap your cake Very Well before you put it in the fridge. When you remove it to the kitchen counter, leave it wrapped for 24 hours. If you boxed it up before wrapping, leave it all wrapped. It gets sticky because of the humidity in the air compared to no humidity in the fridge, not the temperature change. Good Baking!!

rosie you didn't ice between the circles? is that your choice or is that was is done for checkerboard cakes?
@Rosiesdessertspot8 жыл бұрын
to be honest I didn't want there to be a boarder between the squares, but you can definitely ice it all the same. I figured the icing between the layers would hold the cake slices together.

You should've removed the caramelisation from the sides for a more neater look. Other than that it's amazing 💖
@Rosiesdessertspot8 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the tip! It did come out just a tad bit coloured on the side, I think I might have added too much cake batter so it took extra long to bake, crisping the sides out a little. alas, we never stop learning!

I normally like your cakes, but definitely not this one. It almost looks dirty and unappetizing. Perhaps more vibrant colours would be better next time and exact measurements so that there aren't any gaps in the cake.

The edges and bottoms could of done with being cut off also, to get rid of the brown cake colour. Would of made it look much brighter and nicer looking on the inside.

I agree.. Brown sides are a big no-no, especially when using gel colour.
