Back in the mid 90's, my family had someone take care of our animals while we were on vacation. Apparently, her boyfriend came over and was using our computer. I only had my copies of Super Mario RPG and FF3(6) stolen. Though I did find my copy of Chrono Trigger my friend had claimed had been broken accidentally by his little brother, buried under a pile of his clothes in his closet... I stopped leaving things out and letting friends come over after that... But fuck you kid I got my Chrono Trigger back! I also got my FF3 back, though I nearly had to beat the shit out of another kid before a mutual friend intervened. Amazing he magically had my game he kept swearing he didn't have. XD Never knew what happened to Super Mario RPG though. And I don't think I'd have gotten into a fistfight over maabus... And of course I don't have either FF3 or Chrono Trigger anymore. Oh, man. Ross-boss, you made me so happy with this episode. Maabus is one of my first games that I've played and it completely blew me away - and it totally baffled me. I kept exploring the map and shooting monsters with different weapons. If I remember correctly, not all weapons can kill all the monsters. For some of them you need to be specific. ALso, the 3rd cd/area simply terrified me because of the lack of a save feature. It did have a manual and if you want it, I think I can send you a scanned copy - just let me know. One more thing - since I see you are reviewing some pretty old and obscure titles (I thought I was the only one in a 1000 km radius that played Maabus, back then) - do try and give it a go to Quantum Gate. It's FMV with some clicky things, but like Maabus, it totally dumb-founded me and retained a special place in my memory.

THIS IS THE GAME! OMG! OK, OK... this is why I love your channel dude. Way back fucking when in the 90's, on my old 75mhz HP machine, I found a trailer to a video game on the disk of a game I owned. Just hiding in a folder. I wanna say it was on one of the disks for Riven, but I could easily be mistaken. It's one of those memories lost to the haze of years of drug abuse. Anyways... it's one of those trailers that was terribad... like so really bad. Bad cheesy 90's techno, really cheesy graphics. Like even for the time I was like "ewwwwwwww". But the trailer stuck in my memory. And I've hunted for it. I could never find it. Like at least twice a year I'd spend hours scouring the internet for what game it was. AND THEN YOU! YOU BEAUTIFUL MAN! You do a game dungeon on it! This is why I love this series... you do videos on the weird off the wall nostalgia things from my past. I thought you were the best for your GD on 'Quarantine'... but this one tops the cake dude! Hell, there's been times in the past on this channel that you started reviewing a game and I was like "is this it? I don't know... is this that game? .... nope, nope it's not." (Rama was one of the titles that had me thinking it might be) Cause I had this feeling in my gut you knew the game... that you had this up your sleeve some where. And you did! You have no idea how excited I am right now. like... this fucking made my month, MADE MY YEAR! like... when fanboys found out that 'Lord of the Rings' was being made into a movie, or that Star Wars was getting new sequels, and fanboys riot in the streets... which at the time I didn't understand. I understand now. That's how I feel right now! ... Best channel ever!

The 6 year old imitation had me in stitches. I remember playing this game about a year after its release and also needed a walkthrough to finish it. I always found the storyline a bit contrived too.

This game needs a sequel, and the entire purpose of the game isn't to save the planet, but to find out what the admiral wanted to tell us later about the aliens.

another great game dungeon. your dedication to playing through and preserving the history of these games is admirable. it always amuses me how much work had to have been put into these games and even if they're not great, to lose them to history would be a huge loss. keep it up, ross!

I have never laughed so hard at a video game ending. Talk about the butterfly effect. The first enemy destroys your mech, then the island gets destroyed, then the whole planet gets destroyed. Damn. I've seen many "bad" endings to video games, but I never saw something showing that you screwed up to such epic proportions. "Excuse me. I need to be with my family."

Brilliant, just brilliant! :D My guess is that the word Maabus is an acronym of some kind - Mobile Armored Anti Bio-terrorism Utility Suit for instance. The game came out at the time when the "guide a drone" genre was trying to become a thing. There's at least a dozen of more or less big budgeted games (especially timed adventures) of this kind from that mid to late 90s era. I never ever got that style of gameplay. And the game is a true obscurity, unless you've tracked down information about every 90s FMV game known to man.

I remember back when game demos and trailers came on CDs provided by game magazines. One such trailer was Maabus, which had some awesome 90s dance music included. 20-ish years later, I finally tracked down what music was played. It was Think About The Way by Ice Mc. It's on youtube

I was 10 years old, a close friend of my father had a computer store and had a copy of this game. I could see it on the shelf every time I went to the store, then one day it was gone. Later it reappeared, The man said to my dad that it had been sold, but the owner returned it and wanted his money back. Then he sold it twice again as used, still the game was returned to the store. So he thought it could be nice as a gift for his friend’s son, me. I was young but I could sense he was trying to get rid of this game. When I got it it had no manual left whatsoever but I found inside the box a paper with one word written down, “Maaballs”. I installed it, played a little, figured out it was a piece of shit and tossed it into the trash bin.

Man, this brings back memories. I used to watch the trailer for this game and its Eurodance/Reggae music track ALL the time. It came on a multimedia disc with some other games, some pix files (or were they pic files?), some bikini photos, and some short music clips. There were a few free games on the disc, too.
