A funny thing, it's one of the few languages that has retained "res" to mean "thing" as in latin, but in catalan you can only use for negatives like to say you "don't have a thing" (no tinc res), "no-thing happens to me" (no em passa res) and similars.

As a native Malay speaker, she is very fluent for a non-native speaker in Malaysia and her R is not as typical as many Chinese Malaysians who can’t roll their Rs very well. Her R sounds like she could be from the northern part of Malaysia when r is pronounced as “gh”. And she is quite humble because pointing out her weakness is just a humble way to showcase herself instead of being too prideful with their own native languages and then put people down with that.

I’m sure Jessica is a nice girl, and guessing languages is really hard if you’re not exposed to them. What I’m going to say next is not meant to slight her, but I’m just wondering why she kept on saying “North Africa” when it’s not even a country? 🤔 Also, asking them to count from one to five is a good strategy but it’s going to be useless if you don’t even pay attention. Numbers in Austronesian languages are often similar, so while she wasn’t able to guess Malay, when it was time for the Indonesian and Tagalog speakers that came after that, she should’ve been able to hear the similarities when it comes to numbers in those languages and by process of comparison she should’ve been able to conclude that they come from the same region. Oh well, we can’t really imagine being in her shoes, so all things considered we should really applaud her for giving her best 👏

@@Ama94947 the sound is very similar, but the Rhotacism is a Dyslalia generally caused by a morphological defect, usually the frenulum of the tongue too short, that prevent people for pronouncing rhotic consonants correctly. But, in some Italian areas people don't pronounce the Voiced dental, alveolar and postalveolar trills but some other variants, in Valle d'Aosta for example people use the Voiced uvular trill (like in French and German), in Veneto the Voiced retroflex flap like in Japanese etc. Anyway Italian is one of the very few language that uses "ciao" as "hello", so you can guess correctly after the first word.

The person who speaks it doesn't seem to say Malaysian but rather Indonesian. Indonesian is indeed a language taken from Malay but more modernized. Shes writing is a bit the same, but shes accent says Indonesia, not Malaysia Example she says = Saya paling and for Malaysia accent. It's read like= Saye sangat And I understand because people from Malaysia are Malaysian Chinese, so even if you are Malaysian, Indians and Chinese go to their own special schools. The majority of Chinese and Indian descendants in Malaysia. Many don't understand Malay but there are also some who understand a little But it's natural for the girl to speak with an Indonesian accent because the more modern Indonesian accent is easier to understand and very simple

If the guesser paid more attention, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines have almost identical words for the numbers 1-5. Since Malaysia was first, the next two would just be nearby (SEA-Southeast Asian) countries. I don't know why she keeps on saying North Africa. But then again, it would be harder to guess if I were in her shoes and if I'm not from one of these countries.

The american girl thinks that in the US they learn a lot about other cultures and countries 😂
@chronicalIyoffline
@chronicalIyoffline Ай бұрын
No she said there are a lot of different cultures, and that we learn a tiny bit about each. Which is true- but it obviously depends a lot on which state & area you’re from. For instance there’s a smaller city in Michigan (middle of US) that has a 93% Arabic population. Chicago also has a huge Italian population. And Texas & californa have a lot of Hispanic (mostly Mexican) so it’s not uncommon for people from those states to know Spanish more than the rest of the country. Pretty much anywhere in the US though you most likely had Spanish, Asian (mostly Chinese/Korean), & middle Eastern Arabic people at your schools growing up so we all typically know broader information about those cultures. My best friends in highschool & one of my boyfriends afterwards were both Puerto Rican so I happen to know a lot about their culture even though I’m in a small college town in the south east 🤷🏼‍♀️ It’s different everywhere. My friend here married a Turkish immigrant who went on to open a popular business in town so we all kinda learned about Turkey (especially because he had his brothers around too). In college I waitressed for years with a guy & his mom who moved here from Australia after the big fires. Also had a good friend from St. Kitts which is one of the smallest countries in the world that no one globally (in a broad sense) would know anything about but I learned a bunch. It’s truly sooo random 😂 that’s the US for ya. But yes obviously there are many ignorant & discriminatory people here (unfortunately) but even they will have friends of different cultures because it’s inevitable here. People around 40 yrs old & younger have done a MUCH better job than the people who are over the age of 45 have- so it’s definitely getting better 😊

I thought Hazeline did a great job with Malay. I like how she didn't use the Johor-Riau dialect (the Upin Ipin dialect, which is the standard dialect of Malay in Malaysia). Her Malay is the variety spoken by a lot of Chinese Malaysians who don't speak Malay as their main language but only speak it as a second or even third language or in official occasions. I personally think that this variety of Malay should be acknowledged as the Chinese-Malaysian variety of Bahasa Melayu in Malaysia, just because a LOT of Malaysians speak this way and it's a huge part of the Malaysian identity. Kinda like how they have African American Vernacular English in the USA.

I think she thought Portuguese was a mic of french and japanese 'cause it:. The Brazilian portuguese always say every single silable, like japanese, so some words looks like japanese 'cause they have the same phonetic, like arara, caro, massa, a lot of words. But portuguese also have a lot of nasal vowels(ã this accent does it be nasal, like an, in) and french every time does it, at tgis part french and portuguese is really close, so words like amanhã, maçã, um, contar sound french, and a lot of words has the stressed silable at the finish, like the verbs, and it is part of the french phonetic, like cantar, chorar, dançar (verbs) sabiá, amanhã, maçã, cocô. So sometimes portuguese can look like a mix of french and japanese accent but looking like spanish 'cause the vocabulary. I'm brazilian:D

Pra mim é inacreditável que a pessoa saiba falar COREANO, ALEMÃO e me mande que a língua do Brasil é BRASILEIRO. É incabível um negócio desses.

15:08 For tagalog (filipino), she mentioned that she's confused with spanish language and african language. It's funny because along with Indonesia, Malaysia, and the pacific nations, madagascar is also in the Austronesian language family that filipino is in, just with a huge spanish influence.

When playing “guess the language” game, you can ask how to say 1-10, hundred, thousand, ten thousand, family members like father, mother, brother, natural object, sun, moon ,tree, river… asking these can help you recognizing the language family, group, branch of the language you are guessing, or what language have influenced the language your guessing. For example when you hear lima, so you know it’s an austronesian lanaguage, or a language influenced by a Austronesian language, and listen carefully the sound of the language you are guessing, and you can ask about climate, geography, culture, and blah blah blah
