That's the rifle I went looking for last year but my LGS's only had them in .357, I kind of talked myself into one. They are very fun. I wound up with the 16" saddle ring Carbine and yes I did all the mods to it. When you take yours apart for the first time, have a sharpening stone handy because the internals will need smoothing out but it's an easy job. Nice Rifle! Don't cut your finger on the loading port like I did, it's very sharp! Stone it!

I bought one of these about a month ago, also 20 inch blued in .45 colt. I got it for about $600 with shipping and local FFL fees from one of those drop ship dealers on the internet. Mine also had the rear stock wobble which was easily fixed by tighten in the tang screw. The wood to metal fit wasn't amazing, but it isn't bad either. You can't tell from card table distances. It also had some sharp edges on the rear of the bolt that I broke with a file after getting a small cut on my hand handling the gun. The inside of mine had some light machine marks but the action was fine. The manual safety doesn't bother me. All this is acceptable to me for the price. Mine shoots straight. I also fed it HSM cowboy loads (save the brass, its starline). The action is smooth but a bit heavy. It ejects a mile which makes finding that brass a problem. I think both of those are because of the spring weights Rossi uses. Since my first range trip, I put on a set of marbles bullseye sights because I don't really like the stock buckhorns (or any buckhorns). That cost me about $30 (so cheap!). I also bought a large loop lever from Rossi for about $60 shipped and it dropped right on with no problem. I've thought about putting a spring kit into it but I'm not in a hurry. Honestly I'm thinking about picking up a stainless model in .357 sometime in the future.

I have this exact same model only mine now has a button where that abomination of a flip safety was and the follower has been replaced with a stainless steel one. Mine is very accurate and since I use it for cowboy action, its very smooth now. The loading gate gets better as you use it. The sights on mine were spot on with standard loads. Congrats on your new purchase and thanks for the vid!

I’ve had mine for going on twenty years now. I use to use it as my saddle and ranch rifle. The 92’s design can handle some pretty stout loads that I wouldn’t dare to put through a 66 or 73. And it’s light weight makes it a pleasure to have handy when you’re out all day and need to keep a rifle with you. Mine is definitely broken in and smooth as butter with no issues. Had to replace the stock once but I blame the horse for that mishap lol

Bought a stainless one of these in .357/.38 a couple months ago, didn't like the rear sight much, replaced it with a peep, otherwise it's been great. Little loading tip, leave the rim of the previous cartridge sticking out holding the loading gate open, Just push that cartridge in with the nose of the next one. Makes it so much easier and faster to not have to push the rim past the loading gate, and push it open again every time... Also saves your fingers from those sometimes sharp edges around the opening.

I have two of them, one a short rifle in .45 Colt (20" octagon barrel), and the other a full length rifle (24" octagon) in .44 Mag. I did the 45 action job with the replacement springs and parts from "Steve's Gunz," and replaced the safety with the plug from him as well. The 44 shoots well, but will not run 44 Special at all, and will only run 240 grain rounds -- anything lighter will stovepipe when loading. But with 240 grain SWCs, it runs well, and is quite accurate. But if you run full-power 240 grain or heavier loads, your shoulder will NOT be happy with you. All of the Rossis come with the short carbine-style stock, regardless of the barrel configuration. They made a short run of them in 480 Ruger, to go with the SBH Bisley, but The last one I saw went for over $1600 at auction. I'd like to have one to go with my SBH, but I don't want it that badly.

Bought the Rossi Ranch Hand 45 Colt years ago and after going thru the action to finish any rough areas and lighten up the loading gate this thing has been slick running with no issues. Few years ago I shortend it up to 9 inch barrel to make it even more handy. After learning how to shoot it hitting my 80 yard gong is no issue!

I just got the same exact rifle and the only thing I didn’t like was the stain on the wood and the safety. I stripped it and restrained with minwax jackobean and did the safety mod from stevenz. It is my favorite rifle now. The action smoothed out on its own after about 100 rounds. Never getting rid of that thing

Great video! The Rossi is a great 1892 for the pesos. They are half the price of a Cimarron and just as much fun. I wanted a Rossi but I wanted one a couple years back when everyone else did too and couldn't find one so I bit the bullet and grabbed a Cimarron. BTW the 1892 is a strong action. If you want to use it for hunting, Buffalo Bore manufactures some stout .45 Colt that is great for hunting (265 gr jacketed hollow point @ 1,600 - 1,700 fps in the 20 inch barrel). The hollow point is very shallow so the bullet holds together nicely. Recoil rom that load is stout, and you need to wear more than a tee shirt. It is a lot of fun with cowboy action loads and can be easily slicked up for CAS.

I bought my .45 Colt 20" Rossi back in the mid 90's when they were selling for 225-250. I shot alot of rounds through it and it never really got that much smoother, so 10 years ago l took it apart and polished the things that needed polishing and it is worlds better. I did cut the ejector spring a little too short, but it still works, you just have to work the lever with authority.

I had a pre safety in 357. Loved it. On my new 45 colt I just ignore that goofy safety. I replaced the butt stock with a 454 Casull from Rossi that has a recoil pad because I will hunt with heavy hand loads plus it gives me a better length of pull.

Are you going to keep this rifle? Sure would be a great addition to your collection. I have a R92 in .357mag with an octagonal barrel, case hardened frame, nose cap, and crescent buttplate. For 10 years now, it's been one of my "go-to" rifle out here in the woods of E. Texas for hogs and coyote that show up on my place. Some complain about the stiff action, but after some shooting some, it'll smooth out nicely. For ease of loading, a little trick is to push the cartridge into the magazine leaving a bit of the rim holding the loading gate down. Then using the nose of your next cartridge to push the case into the magazine, and again, leaving it holding the loading gate down. Saves time and wear on your fingers.😉 I'm right proud to see you with this rifle. Looks real natural in your hands. 👍

Thank for this amazing Video, Dustin! Gotta love the Rossi R92. It is so affordable and yet nicely done. Perfect for beginners into western shooting! A lot of customizing parts are available. In Europe, it is far better available than the original winchesters (Which will cost you twice as much IF they are available at all). Would have love to see, how this bad boy deals with the High Fructose Gang :-)

To answer why someone would go for a. 45 LC, that is very simple. You don't have to two, three, however many different rounds to keep straight. Looks like a fun carbine. There is one MAJOR thing that you did not do. And that is clean and oil it. Massive mistake when getting a new firearm out of the box. I think I'll stay with my pre-64 30-30. 😁😁😁

Rossi - which is a division or subsidiary of Taurus of Brazil - has upped their game in terms of quality, a considerable amount according to old hands who know them. However, as a relative newcomer to the M92, they don't come without compromises. Fit-and-finish on the exterior are very nice, but the internals leave something to be desired. Too many sharp edges, parts which either mate too loosely or too tightly, and so on. My experience with the M92 - albeit limited to 3-4 rifles - has been as follows: One ran great right out of the box, one had to be shipped back to Rossi for service for an issue they did not resolve to my satisfaction, and yet a third needed considerable tweaking to work well, but it finally did. In short, their lower prices than the competition such as Henry, Winchester and Marlin are in some cases a false economy, since you'll have to work to get your rifle to run well, or pay a gunsmith to do it. Which voids the warranty for a lot of companies, but what is an owner to do when Rossi can't/won't resolve the problem? My suggestion for what it is worth would be to save the extra money to buy a lever-action which will work right out of the box. Which is why I am using fewer Rossi products these days, and more from their competition. And there is no excuse for sending rifles out the door whose loading gates are so tight that it isn't possible to load a round that way. Sure, there are fixes for the problem, but shouldn't $650-700 buy more than that? Sloppiness on their part IMHO.

Your hammer/safety reminds me of a question about the hammer on a Browning BLR lever action. The manual says the gun does not have a full length firing pin, so carry it with the hammer down as the safety position. Of course you have to fully cock it with your thumb to shoot. But there is a half cock position - the manual says it is NOT a safety position. It never does say what it is for! So why is it there? My thought is maybe it has something to do with disassembling and reassembling? I have never tried to disassemble because the thing is reportedly VERY difficult to reassemble.

Why buy a .45 Colt when you can buy the .44-40, especially if you are planning to shoot black powder, as well as smokeless. The straight walled thicker .45 Colt cartridge using black powder powder is dirty gertie compared to good old thin walled .44-40.

Rossi nothing special in materials or workmanship. Strong extractor spring will often break the ejector collar or the ejector. My 16" .357 came with magazine spring for much longer magazine. You will not doubt replace that and the mainspring for ease of use and make all the parts last longer. You can smooth r92 by running it near dry a couple of hundred cycles.
