Actually, the Sanctuary was mentioned in arc 3 a lot. Both Subaru and Emilia were aware of it and they even knew Roswaal was there. Hell, Ram herself said she'll take half of the village with her to the Sanctuary..so it's not anything new

To further elaborate on "all sorts of trouble," it's just stated that Emilia, being a half elf, if she was backed by Roswaal who also had only demi-human servants, it would cause unnecessary doubt into Emilia and Roswaal's legitimacy ("this dude only supports a half elf cuz of his fetishes!). Another important detail that was changed in the anime was Petra putting the handkerchief around Subaru's wrist. It made her look somewhat possessive, like marking Subaru as her own, then shyly running behind Frederica. In the LN Subaru took the handkerchief and wrapped it around his own wrist and showed it off like a boss, not knowing the meaning of the action. Reacting to this action, Petra gets embarrassed and runs behind Frederica. Both him and Emilia were confused (neither knows the meaning) and Frederica didn't explain. Then, the last few lines Frederica said as they sent them off ("I've done everything as told by the master, all that's left now is to see how Emilia overcomes Sanctuary") also wasn't said here. Saying it leads audiences to believe that she's a good character, very unlike how the LN had it where, including the conversation with Roswaal that they skipped, Frederica was portrayed to be sus af.

@@HearMeLearn That's not what he said, her existence _was_ erased by Gluttony but that fight took place before Subaru's fight with Sloth, it just wasn't actually shown in the anime until afterwords. I mean think about it, Rem's group only had to casually ride back to the capital, while Subaru's group had to go all the way to Roswaal's mansion, then back to the village, make all the preparations necessary to fight the cult, then all the events that that actually involved.

the thing is he's so weird that you immediately find him suspicious, but because nothing specifically bad happens that you can tie him to, even though he's still suspicious, you write it off as just it not being important, or humor. yes, he wants to kill the dragon if i recall correctly, but we dont know _why_ and if it would benefit the country. so even with that seemingly evil motive, even if you still find him suspicious, you wont see him as _dangerous_

So there's something I've been thinking about. Beatrice got mad after she learned that Subaru had killed Sloth as if she had known/cared for Sloth for some reason, didn't she say something like it was addressed to sloth when she and subaru spoke? Plus in the next episode (the one from yesterday) Roswaal got kinda upset when they called Echidna as "witch of greed" instead of her name and told other to call her by her name. As if Roswaal knew that most witches weren't actually bad, but good people, since we also learn from Echidna that most of the witches actually did good things with their magic but were perceived as going against the will of God. The only bad one would be Satella that devoured all of them. And since Beatrice and Roswaal are close friends, perhaps that's the reason, maybe they know that the witches weren't bad, and that Sloth and the other sins are some kind of remains of those witches and that's why Beatrice got mad. It would also explain why Roswaal takes Emilia's side so much, since she's a half elf resembling the witches, perhaps she herself was actually related to the witches or even be one, since we know from the movie that she had lost her memories or something like that, and that her family or elf tribe were frozen due to some tragedy.

Jesus Martinez which was a horrible plot convenience element because all the build up thors meeting Echidona was amazing in the Web Novel. Subaru met Garfiel & Lewes and talked to Rosswal a little bit before “Tea party with the Witch” took place. Skipping all of that was bad form to be honest. At least it felt like horrible pacing because everything went too fast.

It's a good way to grab peoples attention staight away because a lot of them barely remember the series 4 years later. I think it's also just a way of them saving a lot of time for something that I guess the writers deemed wasn't completely necessary towards the plot. But I agree that the whole build up to the tea party and the trials was a lot better as someone who loves Re Zero. I'm sad the pacing has changed so much but don't forget that we only feel that way because we have read the WN, so it feels like something is missing and that the pacing is bad. But for your average viewer, this is completely fine and it won't seem rushed.

From someone who is pretty much up to date with the WN (god bless Witch Cult Translations) the story only gets better from here. I'm so hyped for the rest of Arc 6. But its been cool to actually compare the anime to the source material, something I don't get to do a lot.
