I just took the same model positioner out of the box and tried it with TIG pulse. I had the same issue with the speed controller. On lowest speed, it wasn't consistent and would stop some times. It didn't work on the lowest setting and on speed 2, I had the inconsistent rotation and stopping. The other big issue was the ground. It wasn't consistent and would arc on the plate as it moved, throwing sparks and debris every time the torch would pulse to a higher amp. I'm disappointed, but I can see why a good one is so expensive.

It looks to be a decent foundation for some improvements. I can imagine coming up with a better ground connection, for example. It could be brought down to a steel base plate that has pins that drop into the fixture table so that it is grounded as soon as it’s set on the table. Maybe a reduction gear on the drivetrain would make the speed control range more useful. As it is, it seems the slowest speed is faster than I’d want, especially if the radius of the pipe is large and the top speed is beyond anything useful for virtually all welds. It appears the drive motor is offset, so maybe a much smaller pinion gear on the motor’s shaft would be all that is needed to reduce the speed. Lastly, I wonder if replacing the foot switch with a variable resistor would allow variable speed while using it. Maybe a TIG pedal would work. Thank you for posting the video.

These are some really great points! I will be sure to look into the improvements you’ve suggested and make some videos sharing the results. Thank you for your support!

Additional gear reduction would put the speed of rotation in a more useful range. The higher speeds are totally useless. Thanks for the review.

Will 3inch pipe fit?

3" will fit but it won't be very stable because the jaws will be almost maxed out. if you are using a big section of pipe it will most likely pop off

I bought this unit and did not get the clip and carbon brush to allow the unit to give the ability to use the turntable for Welding. I've contacted vevor about this and am getting the runaround. They said it's a consumable they drop $60 off, and I then needed to find the brush and clip. I said no way either send the part or give me a return label and a full refund. I wouldn't have any idea where to buy the part and I'm assuming by there reply they don't offer replacement parts rendering it worthless in time. Bad business practice.

I’m sorry to hear you are having trouble with vevor. I have found carbon bars that have springs on Amazon, you may have to adjust how you mount it but it may solve the problem. If they won’t send you a replacement part. Good luck!
