I notice you try not to add any more damage to even your wreck calls, which is also very admirable. So many people don't understand their money didn't pay for that brand new widget, and maybe the customer would like to keep it nice regardless of what it's intended purpose is. I see the concerns from both sides, the people knocking on him, and the people defending him. While the guy was a tad bossy, he was very helpful and willing to get his hands dirty. Whereas in 99% of the other videos they just sit around and do nothing. As Ron said, he wants to make sure things are done right and his load is protected. I'd love to go out for a drink with that guy, he seems really nice and professional.

I see allot of comments knocking the truck driver. I want to play devils advocate for a second and point out a couple things you might not be thinking of. 1 That truck driver is on a much tighter schedule as hes paid by the mile not the hour. 2 The truck driver and his partner (maybe romantic or student whatever) might be hoping to get the job done quick so they can spend the night in a hotel or grab a hot shower. 3 The truck driver ONLY hauls those machines he said so he knows how to lift and rig those machines and probably has seen his fair share of incompetence with lifters. 4 Truck driver is responsible for the entire load so he HAS to make sure that when each piece comes off it doesnt damage any other clients property thats on his truck or its his rear thats going to pay. 5 Both men have allot of experience and were doing the one thing that is best in a job site, communicating.
@RonPratt7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and for your very valid commentary. It's not always easy to see different perspectives and I appreciate you offering one. What appears to be easy or common sense is not always what the situation was like getting to that point. God bless and thank you again.
@joeashbubemma6 жыл бұрын
Captain Chris - Sure, I'll accept that. Or, the truck driver is an ass hat. If a rigger shows up in his own Rotator, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he knows what he's doing. Until then, it's best to keep my mouth shut until he proves me wrong, assist where I can, or just stay the hell out of the way. The rigger is on a schedule too. Guys like these (trucker) are the first to get offended when anyone tries to tell them how to do THEIR job. I agree, a 4 point pick would have been much safer, but that dude insisted on doing it his way, risking that load to flip, he even admits it's happened before lol! #1 If this was true, why waste time telling him what to do every step of the way? He didn't even know the door clearance. #4 isn't actually true - if the rigger makes a mistake, it's his butt, not the trucker, he is under sub-contract and therefore liable. If things went South, these things end up in court. Communication is two-way. I didn't hear that trucker ask ONE question. That's not communication, that's ass-hattery. Ron, you are a better Christian than I am, by a country mile.
@kd5nrh6 жыл бұрын
Ron knows the machine, the driver knows the load. Both confirmed with each other several times when setting up. That kind of communication is how things get done right.
@johngritman48406 жыл бұрын
At the beginning I thought the truck driver was a bit of an idiot. Funny thing happened: He started to communicate so you knew what was going on and he respected what you were doing. I think he had some very bad experiences with some riggers. I thought he was going to drool when he saw what your remote could do. The two of you had a common goal - et it right with no damage. The camera angles don't always allow the viewer to appreciate where the part is. My son in law is an independent owner/operator with a tri-axle RGN. I am his operations/finance consultant and his private banker. We have fun. His first truck, a 2009 Mack, the dealer destroyed. Not to worry, I funded tthe down payment on the second truck which I picked out with him - a 2003 Kenworth with a 550HP CAT15 Five weeks ago someone was careless and backed into his truck which was parked, brakes set and in gear. Made a mess of the grill and what was behind it and broke a valve spring in #1. Of course we did not know that until he had deadheaded from OH to WV, loaded and started the truck. A good friend deadheaded from SC, they hooked the trailer to his friend's truck and delivered - on time. Drove back to WV, loaded his Kenworth on the RGN and took it to the CAT doctor at MHC Kenworth in Nashville. Both his insurance carrier and the carrier for the fellow who hit him were OK. Long story short, the head and piston were damaged. So we opted for a complete rebuild of the motor, turbines and front end (wear not the accident). Four year full CAT warranty for parts and labor with unlimited miles. Now we need to swap the 13sp transmission for an 18sp and the clutch. I know tthis is long but we learned a lesson. I looked at prices for a new Kenworth adequate to the job ($170K), the cost of a used truck with about 350K miles on it ($65K) and the cost of an inframe rebuild, new rubber, etc. ($30K over time) and saw a $65K spread. For an independent owner/operator, that is about $65K profit out the door. Gotta do the numbers. We'll buy a second truck that way and do what we have done with the one we have. Then when it needs those repairs, we have a back up.

I thought the truck driver was great. I like that he was so conscientious of the cargo under his care. That says a lot. During my 45 yrs working (I'm retired now), I quickly learned a knowledgable and helpful person is like manna from heaven. I could take any personality differences--those things are irrelevant. What counts is getting the job done and anyone who could help me accomplish that was totally welcomed & appreciated. You have to learn to recognize if something is truly stupid, or merely a prick to your ego. Then ignore the ego part. Love your videos, Ron. I just discovered them a couple of weeks ago, and now watch them every evening. They're very relaxing for some reason. I pray God bless you, your family & all your workers. Some interesting stuff! I don't tow, but I do Heavy Haul work for a public utility using a Western Star 4900SB 4 axle tractor with a Palfinger PK100002 knuckle boom crane with winch, jib and full wireless remote. The crane has 360 degree boom rotation and 360 degree hook rotation. This crane has a max lift of 66,000, probably a lot less than yours, but I normally don't pick trucks up either, a lot of big cable reels weighing as much as 22,000, but mostly a lot less. I just like the challenges of doing different work every day, working in tight spots, putting large items in 3rd story windows, etc.

Yes, I enjoy the sme challenges. We are contracted with a very large local utility and do all of their towing and recovery . I had one of their digger-derrick units stuck in a farm field yesterday and I have a tow set up for Monday on a tandem axle bucket truck. I hope you see and enjoy some different things on my channel. Thank you and God Bless.

I actually have to say both done their job's and you can peal an onion multiple ways. I like how both communicate open with each other this way you can catch yourself it you miss a thing or 2. This is how teamwork works. Don't forget the trucker does that for a living so he give his suggestions to the hauler so Ron who can pick up his ideas or not. As quickly as they got it offloaded and moved I know not to many will do it that fast. I think Ron will agree he's a good trucker knowing his stuff and loads which is key for heavy hauling. And now let's BLOW UP J's phone with photos :-) KABOOOM !!!!!
