The way you backed up in that tight spot and put the wheel lifts right where you wanted them, someone might thing you are a pro. There are so many doubters when the space is tight. I always say, if I missed all the obstacles, the space was not too tight. If you can't open the tool box doors, that is getting tight. Great driving.

been watching for awhile now. had to be towed twice after getting hit both times by persons with no insurance, no license, prior history of DUI. getting out of the way for police, ambulance or tow trucks with lights coming down the road or on the side of the road is very important. traveling back and from Illinois to Tennessee i often see many who do not get over and out of the way. Thank you for your and your teams service to helping keep our roads safe.

Hey Ron, I am retired from a public utility in Nashville. One cold day back in the late 80's I grabbed the underground service van that has a high wattage heating unit for the manhole crews. Stuck it into the air cleaner and the extra heat allowed the truck to start. I had 10 trucks that would not start that morning, saved the day.

Every now and then it gets cold here in Texas. This video reminded me of a freeze we had in 1989. I'm a car guy and yet a friend of mine who is a railroader, called me and asked why his GM F3 diesel train wouldn't start. I said check the fuel. He said it looked like Jello. That might be the problem I said.

I am a service advisor at a Chevrolet dealership in New Hampshire. DEF will start to freeze at 12F according to what GM says. There is no additive or winter blend for it, to prevent freezing. Even though Zero on the Thermometer is not unusual, even here in Southern NH, We had over 2 weeks of below average tempatures, even here.

I came to Ron's channel looking for good ways to get aluminum bodied 1000 cu ft cement tankers unstuck. We go to a lot of oil fields to spread for their pads. We have a lot of newer drivers (and even us seasoned ones) who get buried in soft ground. Our newer drivers are damaging their trailers because they don't know where to hook up...neither do the equipment operators who try to pull them out. I've been learning even more than I bargained for.

Another win for Ron Pratt. I do like to watch you work Ron. Not much aggravates me more than incompetent people so of course I'm pretty happy when I see someone who always does it right. I've seen heavy tow operators on TV here that make me wonder how they got their job when they make fools of themselves so often. When you were pulling in behind that tractor I was thinking more light would be a good thing. I know you have lots of lights but in the dark there's no such thing as too much. I remember one cab over I drove when I was hauling fuel had aircraft landing lights because I unloaded at the back of the truck stop into the key lock tanks which were near the runway that would land a 747. There were often bears back there so lots of light could be a life saver. Of course you can't use them on the road but in your line of work I think they'd be a good thing. Take care and stay safe Ron.

Ron - Why is it that most people with a Southern accent, are some of the most kindest, courteous, polite people in America today? You rarely hear people call each other "sir" or "ma'am" anymore, unless you're getting pulled over by a cop. I notice you also support the 2nd Amendment. It's interesting that Asians (like myself), share a lot of the same Conservative values - God, Country, Family. Today, it's nothing but, "ME,ME,ME".

I don't know how the fuel system on his truck was set up, but the Detroit powered Cascadias have a heater in the fuel filter. Starting procedures are to turn the key on and leave it on for at least five minutes to warm the fuel filter. Hopefully, it should start. A block heater would also help, but it looks like he has no provision to plug it in where he is parked. Cascadias also have a habit of leaking coolant in the area of the DEF tank, at least that was the case with mine when it was cold out.

"I hate the cold" Amen to that. I've never been happier to go to Miami! We got there before the storm, but didn't beat it back. I-95 from South of Savannah to I-26 was a complete nightmare. We hopped west a bit to US301 to get around it -- just a few miles west was like nothing happened. Once we got back to 95, there was a truck and trailer on it's side in the median. A few miles north was a rig completely backwards in the median -- that had to be an interesting ride... luckily, he didn't hit anything; driving north and the next minute you're in the median aimed perfectly south. Not far from that was the remains of a trailer on the SB side out in the trees. Nothing left but sheet metal and insulation.

Up in Canada where it gets a LOT Colder than the US, Truckers have to place an Additive in their DEF tanks so keep them from freezing. ALL across the US and in some Canadian (but not all 🤔) locations, they have the DEF Pumps at the Truck Stops protected on the outside with covers, etc. since DEF will Freeze. 🥶

The problem with DEF is that its 2/3rds or 67.5% is deionized (minerals, some of them prevents frost) WATER, the rest (32.5%) is Urea and yeah it will freeze if the heater system (if equipped) is not plugged in or the engine is not running idle or APU not running to keep things warm. Also fuel additive such as antigel can only offer so much protection, freeze protection is not one it can do. Thus why its good idea to invest in a heating blanket to plug in for the night or day when its 12°F (-11°C) or lower or get an APU at least for winter to keep the fluids and truck cabin warm and such. Or some aftermarket drop in electric heater as recommended.

Joshua79C C speaking of DEF fluid, although this posting is 8 months ago, this year2018,,on the east coast, in FLA, @ OPA-LOCKA AIRPORT, the jet fuel was contaminated with DEF fluid, a FALCON 3 engined private jet took on fuel, 1 engine STOPPED, alarms, then 2nd engine dies within minutes, EMERGENCY declared so he got back with 1 engine, Somewhere out west same thing happened, there was supposed to be an ANTIFREEZE called PRISST, added to the kerosene, otherwise it WOULD FREEZE up there .. the FAA & NTSP are looking into this matter coming from NJ

Great pickup in the elements of Mother Nature. The DEF Fluid is like 99% water. It freezes very easily if not bouncing down the highway. DEF will freeze at 12 degrees. Usually the tanks are designed for it and have heaters when the trucks are running.
@Joshua79C
@Joshua79C 6 жыл бұрын
Also helps if the fuel did not also freeze in those temps even if you use antigel fuel additive as it only prevents it from gelling not freezing. Amazing what a simple tank heating blanket can do in those temps before the fluids freeze and also have an engine block heater to make starting the engine also more easier in that freezing temp.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is an aqueous urea solution made with 32.5% urea and 67.5% deionized water. DEF is used as a consumable in selective catalytic reduction (SCR) in order to lower NOx concentration in the diesel exhaust emissions from diesel engines. WIKI

its a third Urea and two thirds deionized (mineral-less) WATER so yeah it will freeze much like diesel even if it was treated with antifreeze/gelling additive, both require heater in such cold and even so that can only work so well.

Here in Kentucky we were in the single digits as far as temperature around New Years and I was out working in my rollback and it wasn't too bad. It was much worse the next week when the temperature raised to the 20's but there was so much wind. The wind chill is was makes it unbearable at times.

I remember it being so cold we had to lite a bags of charcoal under oil pan just so the motor would turn over because the oil was like grape jelly. Throw a big tarp over hood and block the wind from the sides and start a fire.

I like how you opened the side panel, and it wouldnt come down so you slammed it back closed (I almost heard a 'Forget that!') and went around to the buttons on the rear of the rig. I think you mentioned before the switch for the lift axle whether it stays up all the time or automatic deployment is inside one of the tool box doors. Kind of odd. Might consider tagging on another switch in the cab to bypass it from there without getting out. So you wont run into the lack of air so easily like you did.

Ron great Job as always. Thanks for sharing. I guess he either didn't have winter fuel or antigel in the fuel It got pretty cold here that weekend as well. If I remember right def will freeze around 12 degrees or so most def tanks have heaters in them to thaw the def I know GM has had some problems with there def tank heaters ( pickup trucks with the 6.6 duramax engines) in the 2011 through about 2013 or 2014 I have a 2012 and it has had the def tank replaced under warranty for a redundant heater problem of some sort.

I remember that day. It SUCKED! My coolant froze, then my schrader valve let loose, then the spare exploded when under load (lowered off the jack), and then at lunch, I nailed a pot hole and broke the rim on the car I was using because my truck didn't have tires. Got mild frost bite because I forgot my gloves that day.
