I COMPLETELY understand what Randall is talking about. I have a LOT of white friends here in Brazil. Some of them, years and years of friendship. I did my final paper at university on racial issues and been talking about it on my blog since 2015 and in my Instagram profile since january, last year. Two weeks BEFORE George Floyd we had in Brazil a 14 year old kid INSIDE his house and a 22y old guy WORKING on the street both murdered by the police. A week after George Floyd we had two more episodes that made through the news. But a lot of my white friends only paid attention in what I was saying AFTER George Floyd. People started to invite me to talk in places. I mean... why just now? What changed? It's the hashtags? The viralization? I think it's a good thing that a lot of white people started paying attention and listen. The thing is, when things like this happen, us black people... WE FEEL it. And beyond feeling it, we have to talk about it cuz people start to send me the videos, the news and ask me about it and all I wanna do is cry at my room. It IS exhausting. So... I love this friends of mine, but my wish is to say to them what Randall told Kate. This scene got me emotional because it hits home.

In a family dynamic, when there’s so much love , most don’t want to talk about the difficult topics.. for example, the scene where Kate confronts her mom at the bar, where Kate just sang, but didn’t want her mom around, to see her sing.. she always felt inadequate in front of her mom, because her mom, in the process of making Kate feel her best.. forgot to ask her, how Kate really feels! it’s not like, it doesn’t cross their mind, it’s just, they become protective & want the other person on the edge, to be loved so much, they just believe love heals everything..! In this situation, you can’t really blame anyone..! Some just don’t know what to say & if it can be even said & how it’ll be taken & the consequences of it.. they may not want to lose a great friend they had all these years..

I do understand both sides. I just feel like Randall should’ve been vocal about how he felt. People are often unaware about things, that wouldn’t happened to them or are less likely to happen to them I may say. Randall’s feeling are definitely valid and I would be exhausted too. But I still kind of feel like he is putting whatever he and Kevin have going on on Kate. People can’t read minds. That’s something I had to learn as an adult. She didn’t address this issue in 40 years but neither did he. So both did their part I feel like. I understand I must have been extremely difficult for Randall to address, but just like Kate he had 40 years to do so.

She's not responsible for all the times black people have been mistreated, so why give her that cross to bear? It's only going to make her less likely to want to talk about this issue with him in future, which is the exact opposite of what should happen.

This scene is more than Randall is right or Kate is right. It's how both of them are human. Both Kate and Randall don't "look the part" to the boomers or the oppressive people. Kate is struggling and it is seen of and talked of. Randall's struggle is far more complex yet not spoken of. Randall shouldn't have the need to speak. It is obvious but often not noted. It is often difficult to realize someone in the family is struggling, and Kate didn't realize it in 40 years. This scene is a symbol, that we, as a society, have failed to recognize the sufferings of the minorities, especially black people. Randal just did his best to voice his thoughts. Kate tried her best to help. But, both lack more skills and time. This scene is a reflection of a lot of real-life relationships, where one is a minority and the other is not, and how even though there is a lot of love but they don't know how to express and cope with what they are feeling.

When Randall was going to take the white, red headed girl (now it sounds like Charlie Brown) to the prom and her father wouldn't let her go. 4. The way Randall's former company treated him when William died. 5. The episode where Randall and Jack bonded at the karate dijo. 6. Randall and the teacher at his special school. 7. The 1st adoption judge for Baby Randall. So many others. Now George Floyd. He's experienced a lot. Maybe he'll use some of these issues ij his political career. @@sibanipanigrahy5509 he’s the outsider in this show. They should’ve made more of effort than him. I am saying this as an ESL teacher. My students come from all over the world, but it is up to me to make them feel like they belong, like their culture matters. In an earlier season, Jack told Randall “ when I look at you I don’t see color.” Randall replies then, “ you don’t see me dad.”Because Randall is an outsider in a sense they should have tried to talk to him when issues like this arose. I was raised in and still belong to a mixed church and I feel exhausted. Exhausted from sparing my counterparts of the feelings towards racial injustice, exhausted from hiding my irritation that 9:00 minute video had to ignite disgust and anger from them, exhausted of excuses given to policemen. So I get how Randall feels, why should he have to explain his feelings. His siblings never had to explain theirs to him. He knew it would make them uncomfortable so he hid it.

He isn’t my least favorite, but I felt like this sene shouldn’t have been for him and Kate. Randell lived a good life with his parents and siblings. He has been successful in his school and work because he had support. Rebecca did a lot as a mother to make sure Randell felt loved, connected with other black people, and even kicked her own mother out when her mother was showing favoritism and racism. So with all that support and success because he lived is loving home (not a white home, any household can have a loving and supportive home; like Rebecca & Jack and Randell & Beth both provided for there families). if any of this “needed” to be addressed in this tv show, I’m surprised they didn’t use Deja. She grew up rough for most of her life (and may have seen a lot of things) and is still young enough to not understand how the world works. If she blamed the entire white race and police officers for her and other black people’s problems, that would make more sense, but for how successful and loved Randell is, it felt off.

Randall had a constant struggle with his identity, with wanting to know his biological family, he's dealt with anxiety for years, and recently had to watch the biological father he just found die. None of these characters have had a particularly easy go of it. But there's a pattern, which is that Kate and Kevin support each other and Randall offers support where he can, especially to Rebecca. Since Jack, who you see supporting Randall in the flashbacks (even though even he got things wrong), I don't know that Randall has had that kind of support from the Pearsons. He is grown man and it is a little to late to act like "buh huh You didn't spoke with me about my race" except that they did. They even speak with him with subtle racism that his grandmother was doing. Also saying that he comfort everybody but he needs to look at himself. Dude, all he did all seasons was looking at himself. Even saying that Kevin was selfish is just terrible because he was the one that helped him with second breakdown (even his own wife didn't get that something was wrong), Kevin helped with anxiety attack, he helped him with Beth, and who Randall called when he had breakdown with the Bulgral, exactly- Kevin. He is the most selfish person in this show so I want to ask when will he start looking for someone other than himself?

I get his emotions and emotional state but as someone who was similar but he needs to own up to a few things in this episode and GROW. It 1. Nobody said he needed to make them feel better that was his choice. 2. We can blame those around us for our emotional state but it does not make us any healthier or improve our emotional mindset. Especially if we are complicit in keeping quiet. 3. Us that are passive aggressive both will say the wrong thing unintentionally. 4.THIS will lead to us looking for others to blame. 5. We sometimes can use our emotions to seek empathy before we own up to our own issues AND self inflicting behaviours that cause pain. They BOTH need to grow from this and be better. Randall needs to first see his faults before that growth can happen. Just my 2 CENTS. PEACE LOVE JOY

All the things you say about Randall cna basically be said to Kate as well. She's the even more emotionally immature sibling on this one and instead of listening to him, she burst into tears first. Socially, we are conditioned to express empathy for someone who starts crying, regardless of whether they're right or not. And him holding her accountable for it is rightful and normal.

I'm black and I didn't know how to feel about this scene. I mean....randall isn't wrong. but neither is kate. she only wanted to be there for him but instead he made her feel bad for it. I don't think I would have handled her that way - we would have just sat down and talked about things. I don't know. but either way - this scene and the whole show was BRILLIANT
