I think they only purged so they could reduce the poor so the government could get more money from people. But they sugar coated it to sound like they were gonna let people do their worst that one night so they don't commit crimes on regular days.

So who are those guys? Like...did this cult just team up with a group of randos to do the sacrifice? What's stopping them from immediately rushing the bus and having a field day? Why is this scene pretending that "purgers" are some godly force? They're just...people. Logistically there was some sort of arrangement here. One that's just really dumb. Did they STAND OUTSIDE waiting for the cultists to choose who to send out? You've got 12 hours dude, what the hell do you get out of this you can't get elsewhere?
