I feel you on how much weight is on those slabs. Those things are incredibly heavy and yet Matt Cremona makes transporting slabs look so easy.

Beautiful work! I love the character of that top... the various pith flecks, gaps, and knots. Its gorgeous and will definitely be a piece of art and true craftsmanship in itself! As always, your videos rank among my top favorites here on KZbin. You have a definite gift of narration, lighting, and editing to make each video more of story than just another mundane woodworking submission. They are truly inspirational! (My wife even enjoys watching them with me and she rarely enjoys the videos I watch!) Keep up the great work!

I saw your other video on the kitchen step/stool you made for your daughter that was linked from Matt Cremona's channel recently. Hi sorry for the off question but what is your worktop made of?
@JTWoodworks7 жыл бұрын
It's red oak. He says it at 1:35

My assembly table is cabinet construction base, with a 2x4 framed top, topped with 3/4" plywood and a 1/4" sheet of replaceable "hardboard" or "Masonite" as it's sometimes referred to on top. The roubo top, like JT said is made of Red Oak.

Is your shop climate controlled? I'm about the embark on this same build in the summer but concerned that it being in my non heated garage will make the wood move between seasons.
@wmwalkerco7 жыл бұрын
My shop walls aren't insulated, but it's a walk out basement, so mostly underground. The floorbox above me is insulated and I've got HVAC registers in the ceiling. It stays a bit cooler than the conditioned space above but the seasonal changes never swing that much. I know a lot of guys have garage shops. I think Jay Bates might be the one to ask since he lives in Mississippi and has a roubo bench in his garage.

What gave you the idea to go the Roubo split--top route?
@wmwalkerco7 жыл бұрын
The Roubo was inspired by weight. I wanted a ridiculously heavy bench. The Split-top was driven by dimensions. After the milling process I either needed to split the top to give me the overall width I wanted, or to cut into another slab, which seemed like moving in the wrong direction (plus I'd be cutting up another slab).
