Thanks for bringing back QM2 memories! The westbound transatlantic in early June 2017 was very rough for the first couple days with significant ship movements. It was on that sailing where QM2 came to the rescue of stranded solo yachtsman Mervyn Wheatley. What an eventful trip that was!

Fellow Canadian-born New Englander here: glad to meet another guy who can tough out some chills (though no shot I'd be one of those guys taking a dip in the pool at that time lol). I know the camera and then the sheer size of the ship don't completely do the waves justice, but as far as I could tell, that wasn't really rough. Nothing more than a really windy day. Mary was chilling. 😎

I have been watching lots of cruise videos. Yours are the best. You explain different cruise lines and ships and their purposes. You are very informative, fun, and you seem to be kind. A transatlantic sailing on the Queen Mary 2 is one of my top cruise dreams. Much more appealing than the “city on a ship lines.” Question: When the recreational cruise ships take the occasional transatlantic cruise, what happens when they hit a huge wave they aren’t built to take? I loved watching the ballroom dancing. I could almost see Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians. The couples knew how to work the room instead of dancing in one spot. I’m daydreaming and planning for future travel while I take care of my 90 year old mom. Maybe I will do a transatlantic every year or every other year at some point.

check out the season you plan to travel. if you likehair raising adventure take a North Atlantic crossing at the end of November. if you more rational take a transatlantic i the late spring or early fall. It was a once in a lifetime adventure. now seasickness. it IS miserable,but it can be helped. you can buy over the counter dramamine. you can also see the ships doctor for medication. Do not fear the unexplored. And have FUN!!
@ronacosta29035 жыл бұрын
Newzchspy Wrong. The ship does indeed have stabilizers. It’s not as if it was built in 1912.
@Newzchspy5 жыл бұрын
Ron Acosta not like an Oasis class. Poor Don was taking a beating out there . It might have well been designed in 1912 because it has none of the technology of the new ships. It's like going from horse and buggy to a Tesla. The difference is immense.

What a lovely tribute to such a majestic ship. Sis and I went on the QM2's little sister, the Queen Elizabeth. It was the only cruise we have taken this millennium, but it was a goody: San Francisco to Sydney with stops in Hawaii, South Seas islands, and New Zealand. We loved that ship. Guess I'm just a Cunard gal.

The casino was larger, but they added some single staterooms behind part of the casino. I've done the crossing 4 times and I never get tired of it. the last time was Dec 2019. It was roundtrip from NY. The crew is great. They take such good care of you. This time recently had some surgery and had to use a cane while it finished healing. It seemed as if someone from the crew was there to offer help if I needed it. Most of the passengers were fun adn very friendly. I'm sure being right before Christmas put people in a great mood. We had some days that were rocky and rough. You can be as lazy or busy as you want. There are thing to do from 6am onwards. If you are looking for a zip line or rock wall you won't find them on this ship. Also there were all ages on the ship. From babies to very senior. I love to travel and have been very lucky to see so much of the world. There as still a few things I want to see. Nevertheless I will always go back to the QM2. It is a very special ship.

g bridgman It was one of my adventures. i have been very lucky on my vacations. i took a cruise on a windjammer ship during a hurricane. the hurricane was on the leeward side of an island and our sailing ship (holding 120) was on the other side. i was in a room set up for6 people by myself once again gripping my toes on the end of the bunk. and THEN there was the time i hiked across the caldera bottom of Kileau Iki. I thoroughly enjoy your videos. I believe I have watched them all. My wife and I have had 4 Transatlantic crossings and a Mediterranean cruise on the Queen Mary 2 and have enjoyed every minute on board. You have so much to see and do or you can just find a beautiful corner to quietly read a book. The service, the food and the entertainment are all first class. The ship holds a lot of passengers but certainly does not feel crowded. You are thoroughly spoiled the entire time. It is certainly true “getting there is half the fun”. Keep up the good videos, Don. All the best to you and good health.

Thank you for covering a Cunard transatlantic crossing. My first big cruise was a QE2 transatlantic in December 1999. Two travel agencies recommended against it, trying to steer me to singles cruises 😒, but I found one that would book me on QE2. The wave spray hitting the windows outside of the library deck, the movement of the ship as you lay in your bed, the extremely attentive service when you have almost the entire dining room to yourself at breakfast 😄 Not to everybody's taste, but my favorite sailing ever.

I came to Canada in 1960. I was 13 years old and we sailed on the Ivernia which was a lovely Cunard liner but considerably smaller than most liners today. I remember the kennels and went to visit them, I was met by an exuberant Irish Setter who rushed passed me to freedom. The poor sailor had to chase after him and I hope they got him safely secure back at the kennels. Three months prior I sailed from Australia back to England on the P&O Stratheden. She was a lovely old ship that had served as a troop carrier in the second world war as did many liners. I sailed on the Multan, the Oronsay,the Orsova also back in the fifties. If you Google the Orsova (Bobby Darren, Mack the Knife)you will see me in the pool, facing the camera. My hair is in wet pony tails on each side of my head, I turned 10 on that ship.
You were a lucky girl, I envy your travels, the end of the age of real ocean liners that served a real travel purpose. I was the deck officer on duty when my cutter encountered the old Queen Mary making its last Atlantic Crossing eastbound, I called the Captain, we briefly sailed alongside and rendered honors (a flag salute for military vessels). Fortunately we had our gas turbines running so we were able to keep up with this old girl.

Nice choice of background music! Good video, made me want to be there. Looking forward to a Nov 2020 Holy Land cruise & a transatlantic from Rome to Miami on the Explorer of the Seas, same cabin & ship for 27 days. Hoping it rides as well as the QM2. About 10 yrs ago we booked a room on the QM in San Pedro CA. The cabin was nice, originally 2 separate staterooms. However the walls were so thin that when a baby fussed next door, it seemed it was in bed with us. I then moved to another bed which was along the passageway and a luggage cart going by sounded like it was on top of me. We got up, packed, got a refund, and drove an hour to get home. So glad todays ships have better soundproofing!
