As for rough washboard trails I have learned over the years of not only motorcycle riding across the country , and now riding a UTV off road I always wear a kidney belt. Helps hold everything inside. Makes for a mu h better ride!

I suppose! If it works for MCs for the same reasons….

That south loop to Millston needs rock mixed in to firm it up. Too sandy and washboards quick after grooming.

Definitely. It was painful 😆

Hey, congradulations. You have finally experienced what I have been bugged about for years here in Black River Falls. I see you are attempting to enjoy part of the Oak Ridge trail loop. This section of trail has been like this for years. I hope some day Jackson County can properly drag that trail with a groomer that can actually remove the washboard. My wife and I have completely giving up on Riding from BRF to Millston because we just cant take the beating any more. Hey, you now have a memory of experiencing some of the worst wash board in Wisconsin. I like your videos,
@TheNorthwoodsFamily2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ken! Yeah, it seems the further south you go the worse it gets - dustier and more washboards. I was told they try to groom all the trails once a week in Jackson County - but with that much traffic, especially on Memorial Day weekend, they can deteriorate very quickly.

The trail condition here finally made our local paper.....The Banner Journal.....it mentioned that we have only ONE person doing the trail grooming here and has a hundred or so miles to cover. I live just off this trail and it seems to be in the same sorry state of washboard for years. Sorry that you had such a bone jarring ride. I try not to ride that section anymore because it never seems to improve. Maybe someday they will gravel those areas like they have done on other parts of the trail system here.

My wife and I stay off the Michigan ORV Routes whenever possible. Too much traffic causing ruts and bumps. We look for offroad two track local trails. Michigan is a sandy ORV State. Most routes are very sandy! Routes that are too bumpy we jump on the highway and bypass the bumps. Then again we are licensed to be on the highways as you are... Nice video!

Thanks! Yeah the Michigan ORV trails look really pretty. We do want to get up to the UP to ride sometime. That’ll be good advice for when we make a trip sometime.

Love the vids. This video is a reminder to me that black river falls is a nice place to ride but it's a rough ride. And sometimes over populated.

Right on both accounts. It was amazing the difference in the trails immediately north of Hatfield - they were smooth in the morning but 8 hours later as we rode back to camp how much they had degraded from all the traffic.

that rock was all trucked in there to harden up the sand

The trails held up a lot better where they had dumped it

Looked like a good muddy ride , all mine are dry Arizona desert 🌵 lol 😂

Lol. Don’t run into much mud in the desert I suppose! 😆

Beautiful area. The sandy soil dont last long after they groom. It would take alot of gravel to fix that trail. We are going to Minong over the 4th I hope the trails are good?
@TheNorthwoodsFamily2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the sand plus heavy traffic makes it tough. We’ve never ridden near Minong so don’t know. Let us know how it turns out!!!

They are awful on week ends. I'm retired and only ride on Wed, Thur, and Fri. They groom from Mon thru Fri.
@TheNorthwoodsFamily Жыл бұрын
I didn’t figured they’d be able to groom on the weekend simply because of all the traffic.

Anyone know if you can ride right from Ho Chunk Casino? We are staying there and rather than trailering to a parking lot would be nice to get on the trail right from their parking lot. I see on the map it appears that there is a trail directly across the highway?
@TheNorthwoodsFamily2 жыл бұрын
I believe there is. If you go to the WATVA website they have a big state trail map there. I believe that is Jackson County and you could consult their route maps as well, or I’d highly recommend the VVMAPPING.COM book. Well worth the $35

Time for some upgrades to assist with rough trails.

It looks like they’ve been trucking in gravel for a lot of spots. I’d wager these are the heaviest ridden trails in the state.

I saw on FB that the groomer was broke down so things were kind of a mess
@TheNorthwoodsFamily2 жыл бұрын
That would explain it. We’ve been up there on some washboards but haven’t seen it this bad before
@jimherman13952 жыл бұрын
Needs some serious trail maintenance but trails with soft dirt need mor attention than hard pack and rock and clubs may not have funds and equipment to do the needed work.
@TheNorthwoodsFamily2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think the ground is rockier as you go north. Or it doesn’t see as much traffic.
