Damn I really regret not watching this live, got too caught up with Terra Invicta. It's quite amazing how you managed to work your way into a continent that early. Congratz on the win btw, these 70% games are very exciting, even more so than regular prog since there is an incentive to advance the game other than just waiting for a kill. Pretty fun to see multiple turns in a row where people go on a mad rush to try win or attempt to create elaborate blocks to prevent others from that.

@@TheKillPeteStrategy great content, i would like to ask you something? I was watching an older video of yours on london map where you had a discussion about fixed caps games. I just wanted to mention that i totally agree with the discussion and argument at 48 + minutes regarding fixed vs progressive caps. I am an old player of Risk but only started to play online a few days ago and found out about your channel at the same time. To be honest even though i wanted to manage a high winrate most of my games i quit not because i am loosing but because players tend to make mistakes and leave the game right away, wich just instantly removes any fun and interest to have in a game. Therefore i prefer leaving the game as well and look for another one wich is a bit sad... I think progressive caps is much better indeed because as mentionned players may recover from their mistakes. It's only been a few days playing online, i love the maps and design but damn i can't count how many games i quit after turn 3 maximum because up to 2 or 3 other players left the game. It's really sad so either i choose to play these games anyway without any fun but at least i can grind rank and play with better players or i keep leaving most of these boring games and stick to the few interesting ones. So far i choose fun over being bored and grinding. Wich leads me to asking as a new online player if there is a discord or anything else where i could meet players and play good games with? Would really appreciate an answer from you! Appart from that cheers for content and being a nice lad, watching your videos it seems like there's cool people up there in the ladder that's very nice 🙂

Hey Pete, I have an idea for the tournament structure I wanted to throw your way. First, congrats on making it to the quarterfinals and I wish you the best of luck moving forward! Now to the point, I think it would be better if the points system only lasted through the tournament as a means to eliminate players until reaching the "Finals" stage of the tournament, where there is enough players left to begin the quarterfinals. I think once enough players have been eliminated to begin the quarterfinals, the finals portion of the tournament should be separated into an elevated tier. At this stage, the accruing points system should be eradicated, and points should only be used to determine the top 3 players of each game. These top 3 scoring players in each game move on from the quarterfinals, into the semifinals, points from the quarterfinals don't carry over. The top 3 scoring players in the semifinals will then move onto the finals, again, the points don't carry over. Now, the top 6 players remaining duke it out in the finals and whoever scores the most points is the champion; then you figure runner-up, etc. I believe this would be much more thrilling for the endgame of the tournament. The first stage of the tournament should be the "playoffs", let's say, and then once the finals stage has been reached, the tournament organizers can use the points performance to determine a seeding placement for the players who remain, similar to how they do it in American Football and in Basketball: the top scoring player from the playoffs is "Seed 1", so on and so forth. Then, place players in each game according to their seed. I think this would better reward all the players who made it into the finals, and shake up the remainder of the tournament, adding more unpredictability and RISK as well. The top scoring player from the playoffs for instance, can't use all their accrued points as a buffer for mistakes in case something goes awry in the game. Someone who performed better than them or maybe even won, but had less way points in the playoffs, wouldn't be punished for this handicap and possibly not make it into the semifinals because their points from the quarterfinals don't add up to enough to advance them forward, while the top scoring player would still advance, even though they had subpar performance. Skill becomes an even greater determining factor, and of course, there's more RISK involved for each player to perform their best in order to advance. Basically, the finals turns into a single-elimination stage, all players are given a hard reset, everyone's on level ground, and if you don't score top 3 in your game, you don't advance. This would be considerably more enjoyable and entertaining to watch as a spectator AND participate in as a player. "One of the lowest seeded players from the playoffs is making waves, shaking up the tournament as they beat one of the top seeded players to advance forward in the finals!!!" I would love it if this was implemented in future tournaments, especially since it would make the finals stage more fair for every player who made it, do-or-die time. It was killing me thinking about this, and I eagerly wanted to get the idea out there. I hope this was articulated well enough on my end and that you might consider bringing it up with everyone else on the tournament organization team. Much love, Pete!

Compared to fixed how does your first move change in progressive? Do you look at the board differently at the beginning or is it just your experience that makes the difference? Edit: That ending though lord that's edge of the seat back and forth
@TheKillPeteStrategy
@TheKillPeteStrategy Жыл бұрын
Usually in fixed your goal is to establish an advantageous board position and put generate your opponents resources without pushing them to the point where they interrupt you meaningfully. In progressive your goal is to sit and wait until you can make profitable kills while also making yourself as hard to kill as possible. In this game I played the opening much more like it was fixed than progressive which is something I usually recommend not doing, but it worked. Obviously I had to get very lucky too.
