To watch this entire thrilling series, only to watch someone sabotage another players chance of winning finals, especially on an alternative account. Is down right saddening, first time watching RISK as a tournament. Loved seeing your entire series on it Pete, look forward to catching many more of your videos in the future. Hopefully, the person who was responsible for that travesty gets removed from the community. Otherwise, fantastic tournament to yourself on a semi-finals finish, and congratulations to Cowboy on 3 consecutive finals!

It's unbelievable isn't it. Upside is that alt accounts are no longer allowed so hopefully it cuts down on had behaviour. And for what it's worth I don't think the alt was the person they suspected because I can't believe he would be that big of a scumbag.

Never knew about Risk before. KZbin recommended your round one of this tournament, I discovered the Risk, played a bit and now finished watching your whole FFA 2022 Winter tournament series. My main suggestion would be to refer to players by colors (Orange, White) instead of names, because as a non-pro, it's hard to know who you refer to in 95% of cases. Or alternatively, add (in post-processing) 6 simple static text labels with nicknames on the right part of the screen.
@TheKillPeteStrategy2 жыл бұрын
I do the colours when I'm playing ranked. In tournaments (because I tend to know the players) I do it by name.

I first played risk in college 39 years ago, was invited by two people sitting in the pit. they proceeded to play as allies against me. I never accepted an invite from them again but did enjoy many games of it. This version seems much more exciting and challenging than our simple board game, still the hands-on approach had its own benefits.
@DysClaimer2 жыл бұрын
I've been watching this from the perspective of someone who plays Diplomacy tournaments, and even by the standards of that game - which is kind of notoriously harsh and emotional - it was a bit shocking to watch someone tank their position just to make sure another player didn't win. Emotions definitely play into these things, and certainly sometimes in the end game a player basically can't win and is forced to become the kingmaker. But in 25 years of board game tournaments I'm not sure I've ever seen anything quite as blatant as in this game. I'm not a good risk player, so maybe I'm missing some nuance, but this didn't seem subtle! 😂 Anyway, great stream. Hope to catch more of this!

I would hope players play to win. But I am not in control of that nor do I think we could legislate it in the rules. What I do hope to see is the end of allowing alt accounts in the tournaments so that at least there would be public reputation cost to ones actions.

Everyone talking about the standoff at the beginning, what about the really, really bonehead play from Tim at the end? Not only did he give up his bonus (He really decided that moving a couple troops from the middle of nowhere to his big stack, while leaving a 1 guard at the other end of his bonuses was a good move?) he also WAY over extended the next round which meant he had literally nothing to defend with.

No idea why this got recommended to me. Was interested to watch & learn, but man the vindictive play by Alves made me question the competitive integrity of the game. Add to that, hearing about alts being allowed and the one commentator knowing who they are and not being allowed to disclose it. I lost interest and stopped watching afterwards. Have to agree with Pete's statement on alts, and wish that we had seen all players trying to win.
