Round Log Mortise and Tenon - Barn Build (Part 1)

This has been a busy month. We have been in a draught in the Southeast USA. In farming that means we have to take special precaution, especially for forest fires and assuring the forests stay healthy. Part of that process is cutting out and removing dead standing trees which are infested with pine beetles before they spread to other trees.
While removing these beautiful large forest pines, I'm making good use of them by having some sawn into lumber at the sawmill and the rest I'm utilizing for the heavy timber construction of the new barn for the homestead.
With my many years experience being a log home architect and designer, as well as a general contractor, I have decided to use a mortise and tenon joinery method of construction for the barn. However we are doing this with raw, live edge round logs (or timbers).
Round timbers are 3 times stronger than dimensional material.

Do you build rocking chairs and if so how much

I do custom work. Yes I do rocking chairs. The cost depends on the chair, the material I use and how the client so chooses their rocker made. My preference is to utilize natural components. Log or stick rockers I make would be one of a kind heirloom piece.
