i don't get it. why not keep silent and use it to his advantage? why give up a player's tell when it is one of the best weapons you can have? i've never understood this. the movie claims he 'doesn't have time' to use it to keep beating him which makes no sense to me.
@tylerbaker2405
@tylerbaker2405 2 жыл бұрын
@@michaelweston2285 By revealing the tell, he's trying to tell KGB that he can beat him without the tell. By revealing his hand, he's proving that he successfully read the tell. He's trying to induce KGB to tilt and play sloppy. Beating a sloppy KGB is a quicker win then slowly bleeding him with his tell.
@michaelweston2285
@michaelweston2285 2 жыл бұрын
@@tylerbaker2405 i don't get that Teddy is just going to suddenly start playing sloppy. he's a great player, and by simply ignoring the oreos now, which is an extremely easy fix, he's immediately terrible? or on tilt to the tune of losing his entire stack?? in the real world, wouldn't a player be relieved and more confident that they are no longer giving away their hands? i think the key part of that scene is Mike saying he doesn't have the time to just use the tell. this time thing makes no sense. again, a huge tell is pretty much the biggest advantage anyone can ever have at a poker table.

This hand almost surely wouldn’t have happened. When heads up ya gotta be aggressive, Mike would’ve been raising that A5 preflop, and KGB would’ve mucked that 4-2 instantly.

@aandrei1693
@aandrei1693 3 жыл бұрын
Actually, for you it looks impractical but the hand is played legit heads-up. Heads-up you play as many hands as you can see and be practical, and you only raise a pair. There is no good 2 cards if they are random, so you don't raise A5 just for the ace, you will never know what calls without a flop, otherwise you will be raised back on an endless loop, and nobody want to be in that position.
@JT-gi8rx
@JT-gi8rx 3 жыл бұрын
@@aandrei1693 you’re wrong, you don’t only raise pairs…if you get AK you’re just flat calling? 😂 Any ace or king in your hand is an automatic raise. You have a statistical advantage over the other player when you have even one ace and they don’t, as if the runout is clean, your ace takes it down. Heads up you have to play aggressively and fight for the blinds.
@terracottapie
@terracottapie 2 жыл бұрын
KGB had first action pre-flop. That makes it perfectly plausible he could just aggressively raise with ATC and Mike smoothcalls. Also we never see that he had 4 2. It's just Mike's read. Judging by KGB's reaction, we know he was ahead because he gets mad and throws the Oreos. But he could have had a set of 3s or 5s (3s more likely with Mike holding the 5 blocker)
@JT-gi8rx
@JT-gi8rx 2 жыл бұрын
@@terracottapie it likely would’ve just been all in from both guys here after the flop, or even preflop, considering how short Mike was. Probably didn’t have many big blinds behind, so would need to jam a quality hand searching for a double up, or he’ll just blind out. Teddy calls anything if he has pocket 3’s or 5’s, like you’re thinking, since Mikes stack is so short, not much of a risk for Teddy to knock him out. I understand your point, Teddy raising preflop ahead of Mike would scare Mike off jamming, worrying that Teddy has a pair or better Ace, but when you’re that short and playing heads up, with likely pretty steep blinds at this point, it’s almost surely gotta be a snap jam. Depends on how many big blinds Mike has behind, but judging by his stack, maybe only 10-15? Those are gone very fast in heads up if you just get garbage for a few hands.

0% chance. Nobody with a tell obvious enough that the entire movie audience can figure it out would survive in poker for a living. But, this movie is for a non-poker playing audience... as it should be... it's not a documentary about Texas hold'em. Damon's reaction when he finally reads the tell is also quite obvious, again for the audience's benefit. Just the difference between a narrative put to film and real life.
@jeremyponcy7311

@@8584zender I think it's always bad story telling to overly emphasize important details. I've watched plenty of movies in which I didn't pick up on key things the first time watching them. Those make the best movies. There is something much more rewarding about picking up on subtle details yourself rather than having them thrown in your face. It's like me bringing up a topic that you may be unfamiliar with and then explaining it to you like you're stupid. You shouldn't confuse unfamiliarity with stupidity.

It's not the "eat the oreos" that is the tell. It's HOW he opens them. When he opens the oreos in front of him, it means he has a normal or weak hand. When he opens the oreos beside his head (to hear them), that means he has a monster hand.
