OK, you guys have prompted my first ever KZbin comment. The ETR has become my most anticipated video series. I love that you are sharing your vast knowledge of railroading. Having watched every episode, I commend your presentation and video improvement. By the way, don't sell your chainsaw short. I have the same one and It's, by far, the best I have ever owned. Granted it's not for big cutting but it's such a pleasure to use. I find it so rewarding that you are reclaiming from nature "inch by inch" a viable, working railroad. Bravo to you and your trusty side kick!

To see the rust streak caused by the engine running over those rusted rails for the first time in years warms my heart! Good chance the bakery will become a customer of your railway,& give permission to store # 2021 for the winter since they will soon have rail service restored! Wish I could volunteer!! Am Canadian. We lost our entire rail system in 1988. DEEPLY miss it to this day!! During last few months was lucky to be on board to video tape several regular scheduled freight trains, & work extras collecting derelict rolling stock to be scrapped. You got to have a official ribbon cutting for the line with first revenue train ! ! !

Okay here is a little tip. I noticed you oiling with the oil can in your switch lock. When you change the oil in one of your vehicles (preferably gas engine) save your oil for those projects. The used oil is thinned out from use and makes a good penetrating oil. Is awesome on old rusty bolts an fixtures that see lots of weather and doesn't cost you an arm and leg. Stay safe you two.

There's an abandoned line behind my house that is just lying dormant since 2010...& Would love to see someone restore it like you guys are doing.... lot's of great memories hearing the horns a mile away when it was crossing the State highway and coming down to the warehouses behind us.... we'd usually ride the ATVs out ahead and wait for them to pass by at 5 mph because the tracks and ties were in such bad shape. They'd run a push/ pull set of SD40's early on it was Conrail and last year's Norfolk and Southern....I also remember in my childhood seeing the Old pup type switchers and caboose driving past...the guys in the caboose would invite us in to ride around when they were moving cars .... such good times

It's awesome to see you guys get more trackage to use and the clean-up/restoration processes on the locomotive and tracks. You guys certainly have a lot of work ahead but you'll get there no doubt. You need a big saw like a Husqvarna farm boss, a great gas saw, and would handle all your needs no doubt. I'm in the Washington DC area, I wish I lived closer I'd actually volunteer on a weekend just to be a part of seeing a small business in railroading get off the ground and running. I've always had a fascination with trains and the trucking industry. (I drove in the trucking industry for a while hauling doubles from NJ to Florida weekly). I'm thinking of getting into the railroad profession when I retire from my current job. in 2 or 3 years. I'd like to work for an "underdog" shortline such as yours. The only players in the DC area are the big boys, Norfolk Southern, and CSX.

Love your site. You should treat all the stumps with a herbicide to keep them from regrowing back. Just use a paintbrush to coat the tops of the stumps. I did this on my property, some types of trees have a tendency to send out shoots after they have been cut. This will kill the trees and any brush.

That reminds me of our brush and limb clearing before we got the domed dinner train cars on the KLS&C. On one run I was the conductor and crew boss. We had 85 and caboose 542. We were between Lawrence and Hartford. We had this big tree with a big limb over hanging the tracks. I pondered for a moment. The limb was too big and a bit too high to safely get from the roof of the caboose. Neither was I comfortable that the domes would pass under. I ordered 85 to back up about a hundred feet. I ordered our chain saw gang, "Frick and Frack" to take down the tree. In about 5 minutes that tree was in 3 foot sections piled neatly in the ditch.

A brush cutter like the Husqvarna 336FR is what you need for saplings like that. You can take them down to the ground very, very fast. The 'pro' harness makes it very easy to work with. Once you cut them, make sure to use Tordon on the stumps or the trees will come back like a bush - worse than when you started.

My ONLY gripe is that you bought a 45 tonner WITHOUT the side rods. I mean, you gotta have one with siderods just for the cool factor. But I'm pretty sure your unit will have a lot less truck and drive maintenance. So you did make the sensible choice. Great to see your railroad coming back to life!

Hey guys, I am so happy that you have expanded the ETR. I know that ties are VERY expensive as I have worked to replace them on the now defunct Louisville and Wadley RR. From the looks of the new track you will need at least 3 to 4 hundred new ties and that will amount to about 60 to 80 thousands of dollars or more. My big question is how are you going to afford to buy them? Keep up the good work you are doing.
