@TonyKimtheamusementparkfan2 жыл бұрын
Simple can be relative to a lot of pianists~ So something could be very simple, but the way pianists play it can be considered difficult :) Satie may make it look simple, but there has to be a certain mood I'm sure he wanted portrayed.

This piece is considered by many to be Satie's most prominent work. But while, as you can see, a lot of people in the comments reminisce about old times, express emotions of sadness or happiness, feel calm and tranquil from the simplistic beauty of Gymnopédie, he never intended it to be interpreted in any of these ways. Satie produced this piece as "Furniture music", sort of like musical white noise in the background of other activities. For example, as ambiance for a fancy restaurant. He never knew that it would become so impactful in the world of music, as he died in 1925 and his legacy started to rise in the 1960s. It's amazing how even in a minimalist throwaway piece, he was able to, accidentally or not, capture such a wide range of experiences and moods, still listened to by millions around the world in modern times.

@@jldragongamesI don't think it is as unlikely as it seems. Camille Saint-Saens wrote "Carnival of the Animals" and locked it in a drawer, never to be performed. He was embarrassed by it. This (Satie's song) is favorite classical piece, and I often hear it in the most unlikely places. As an example, there was a Benny Hill Sketch where he is a clown who falls asleep and, while this piece plays, has a dream about dancing with a beautiful woman who walks off of a billboard.

I really love it too but for lack of better words it was ruined by her death. I can't listen to it and not think of that person and it really hurts. So it kinda sits there. And sometimes when I wanna feel that extra bit closer, I'll have it play in my room and just run over the memories through my mind. You were taken far too soon, Samantha. I never realized this song was used in popular media that people confuse for being the original like Minecraft or Haruhi. I've always known this song as a child because of choir, my teacher loved to play random songs before the bell rang. Gymnopedie and Clair de Lune are my favorite. I've always romanticized piano ever since I was 14 it always made my heart swell. It's so beautiful! A horrible experience almost ruined Gymnopedie for me, but I don't want to let that win, because I've always loved the song even before things happened. Listening to you play now, I try to forget the present memory that hurts me, and try to recall my younger days instead. ^^

While this piece has been used in games before, it actually isn't used in Minecraft. The main reason people think it's from Minecraft is because Gymnopedie No.1 and the Minecraft soundtrack are what's known as 'Furniture music' or music that's played in the background which you're not supposed to pay attention to. Plus, Gymnopedie No.1 and Minecraft's most well known song, 'Sweden', have a few similarities which could confuse listeners.

@sheijuna Жыл бұрын
everyone interprets things differently. some people might see it as sad because of similar pieces they experience it with. nostalgia is also usually associated with past memories and maybe people can’t attribute this to anything that reminds them of a past experience. so there’s no wrong or right way to describe it, although some words fit better than others. i don’t think there’s anything wrong with saying it’s sad, depressing, nostalgic, or melancholic. personally, i would agree that it does feel melancholic.
@spookydapanda Жыл бұрын
Maybe melancholy but I wouldn’t say nostalgic. I feel absolutely no nostalgia while listening. I see it as simple yet beautiful. Mainly because when I play it, I notice the patterns and realize how simple it is but it doesn’t feel that way.

Even though many disagree with me, I find this song to be really sad. Not sad in a dramatic way, just sad in the way that you…miss something. Whenever I listen to this song, I feel sad because I want to go back to a specific time, a specific memory, where I felt good. I don’t know how to describe the feeling, it’s just wanting to be there again, it’s almost lonely. edit : yall I think I’ve got a pretty good idea of the feeling im feeling you don’t need to passive-aggressively reply “ummm it’s nostalgia” every time 💀

This piece feels peaceful, then it turns dark or sad, but then it goes back. I feel as if this piece really just expresses all the emotions we feel into one song. It’s a beautiful piece, and I wish to play it soon. Wonderful cover Rousseau

Likewise, I always pictured a man resting after a hard day's work. Maybe its starting to rain. He sits in tranquility listening to the soft sounds of nature at the end of his productive but tiring day. Not a care in the world.

With no classical piano training and only an understanding of the base cleft from over 6 years ago this is the type of teaching I need, got a little under half the song down, thank you! And this is my favorite rendition and the one I listen to from Apple Music consistently

Whenever I hear this song, it’s just crazy how peaceful it is, especially against most songs which were composed the time it was composed. Just crazy to me. Satie had the right idea with this one

This recollects me of a moment when I was a child about 4 years old, I would always hear this being played by somebody near our apartment where there is a public piano standing right there, Everytime I'd look at the balcony or at the screen door to listen I'd almost fall asleep or even fall asleep in the dirty rugs by the door, I still remember my maid taking me out of the dirty rags to my bed room where I cannot hear the tune anymore, Years me and my family moved away through that place, Suddenly whilst I was browsing on KZbin I heard this song and felt a sudden familarity hearing it upon, I remembered that man always playing the piano, That moment I remembered that man was a beggar unnoticed by many in our neighbourhood, Knowing this I tried to find the song's name and maybe try to learn it too, After 3 years have passed I finally found the song in a KZbin's description, *I found it about 3 months earlier*I was really happy to find this beautiful song once again, I'm considering on learning it by my parents piano if I could ever do so, This made me so nostalgic.

Everything_Nerdy When it’s something from the past that comforts you, it’s pretty much like it can never get old. I can listen to this for ever. I’ve listen to it for hours and yet doesn’t get a minute old. This song also makes me quite nostalgic, although I just finished my first year of High School, it reminds me when I was in Eight grade. For me, they were golden memories that slipped by with me even noticing after months
