Route 88 Interchange - Burnout 2 [Dolphin]

Can you go more than 3 seconds without crashing? I'm actually impressed the AI managed to crash that fast.
Also, these freeways are pretty empty, but that's probably 6th-gen console limitations to blame. This is the longest track in the game, so there probably wasn't much RAM left over for traffic.

I honestly wish there was an ability to free roam the world of Burnout 2 (Example: You didn't have to do just Interstate Loop and 88 Interchange, you could roam the entirety of Interstate 88 or even go from there to Palm Bay/Big Surf or the airport).

That would've been really neat! And if you look at the overworld map, it looks like there were in fact plans to connect I-88 to the Airport. (That big bridge that goes across the highway? Follow that east, and you'd get to the airport) But I think this generation of consoles (Gamecube, PS2) just didn't have enough performance to support an open world. Some racing games still tried it on this console generation, like NFS Underground. But they struggled with blurry textures and low framerates. Burnout would not be as fun as it is without that high framearte and responsive controls. That said, Burnout Paradise is essentially what you described, and there is an area in that game that mimics the Big Surf location from Burnout 2. I really need to play Burnout Paradise. But I'd still crave for that full Burnout 2 explorable world.

Even P2P tracks are still not enough because Heartbreak Hills & Freeway Dash connect through the same road that we've already seen. What they should've done for the 3rd P2P track is make a route from I-88 to Sunrise Valley or Pacific Intl. Airport, so I get to see the road linking into those areas.

Been a while since I last saw this comment, but maybe the whole Burnout 2 map could be made in BeamNG.drive, connecting all regions in the process. I've had thoughts of it, but I've never used the map maker before.

lmao. In all seriousness though, the sound design in this game is pretty good for its time. Like how every sound source gets accurate Doppler shift, something even modern games struggle to get right.
