Router Table Build // Finishing the fence, top, dust collection

This is a DIY mobile router table. I used a JessEm lift with a Dewalt fixed base router. This gives me a dedicated space to use my router and even more tool storage, which always seems to be something I need more of! This time we make the router table fence, install the JessEm router lift, and add the router dust collection to go along with the base cabinet and router bit storage.

Nice work. I recently bought a whole Rockler system with the same lift. The top is bowed. Took it back to exchange, and every other top in the store (except to metal ones) were also bowed. I'll most likely return it and build my own. The Rockler legs and fence seem fine, BTW.

Thanks for posting I built mine but I was wondering if maybe my router is too far away from the back of my table. ( 7 inches from lift device to back of table. )Could you tell me minimum distance on yours? I also use a 2 1/2 inch dust port lots of suction and volume. also I was wondering why you decided to put holes in the back instead of holes in the front for good air flow. Thanks in advance for your help. , Phil

mine is about the same distance. And the choice for where to put the holes was purely for aesthetic reasons. It should work well front or back.

Love the table does the dog come with it? Sorry dog is beautiful. This is just what I want a router table for myself as I have hand issues so I think it would be easier if I had a table I could use both hands safer then trying to hold the router as they can be heavy. What router would you suggest for a beginner. Thank you for showing us how you did it

I would do something with decent power if its going in a table like this. Then it will handle all your needs - both big and small. And yeah, it does make a difference being able to control things well using this type of setup.

Nice work! ✅ Are you still happy with the tabletop surface? Did you use any kind of finish on it? I’m thinking of using a melamine over plywood top because I think it should be a pretty smooth surface with very little friction. Thoughts?

I am very happy with the top surface still. I used a prefinished plywood and put wipe on poly on the trim pieces. I have used it a good amount and it has held up great so far. Melamine would be a really good option for the reasons you mentioned. I havent had any issues with the friction on mine for practical use, but never hurts to go even less friction.

Been following the build, now I am assembling the fence bottom to the top using pocket holes, but how did you got the pocket holes screws heads to be completely flush the bottom, mine seem to be sticking out even though I drove them as much as possible using the recommended 1 1/4 inch for 3/4 thickness of material. Any advise? Seem if I leave them like that, they surley strach the bench tom and even the router lift plate.

2 options i can think of. 1. switch them out for the kreg 1 inch screws. Those have a smaller head. 2. If you can make new pocket holes, back the setting on the jig off (for example, if its set on 3/4 inch, maybe set it closer to 1 inch), that should create a deeper pocket for the screw head to sit into.

Nice build ! I used your video to build my own router table! My only problem is the dust collection when cutting dados, dust is flying everywhere . Did you experienced this issue ? Dust collection is good when cutting roundover ! I'm using a shopvac and a cyclone as dust collector , do you think it could be the problem ? Maybe its not strong enought? I did had holes for airflow but dust don't really go down in the cabinet below... do you have advises for me ? Thank you !!

Nice! and for the dados, I haven't done many on my router table (I do most on my table saw), but I don't remember it being a problem with dust. Im pretty sure the dust still went straight down into the chamber below. Not sure what the issue is for you.

Use the adjuster to move the router up to its highest point and that gives plent of room to change the bit normally.
