This is part 1 of a two-part router table build. The router I fitting is a plunge type which is difficult to accurately set the cutter height upside down in a table. In this video I modify this plunge router to enable adjustment of the cutter height from the table top.
In part 2 of this series I will show the making of the table to take this router.

That's a good idea to use that 16mm bushing to prevent the job from moving. Another way to reduce the flexing while drilling would be to remove the routers two sliding bars from its base, then mount the base with attached plate directly in the vice. That should give you the option of tightening up the vice without having any plastic body parts in it to get damaged.

Nice! As you may have noticed, I'm a big fan of a router table. I recently purchased a new Makita router, which I think I can use in a table easy enough. The only issue I see is not being able to lock the spindle above the table to loosen or tighten the collet nut. You've given me some ideas, cheers!

Kuffy, sorry for the late reply - not used to getting comments :), yes I have noticed you are a fan of the router table and I have been taking what you do on board in working out how I will use the table once it is built (KZbin willing, the table build video will be posted on 14 December at the usual time). Those automatic spindle locks sound interesting. For the router I use here I have left the front of the table open so I can reach in and push the locking tab in whilst I work the collet nut.

Interesting - I've got a ryobi that needs something similar done to it. Cheers for putting ideas out there. 👍

Done that to my Ryobi this week and works well saving lots dollars. Used a 3/8 timber insert screwed in to the depth gauge hole

I'm surprised you didn't build a router lift similar to the commercially available ones given that you have the tools necessary to do so, either way well done modifying your router so it has a built in lift function, I think I'll look at doing the same to mine

Thank you and I hope your modification goes well. I like the screw adjust as it gives me very precise adjustments, that said the router lifts do seem quicker to use. Thanks again.

Interesting project, PS; Your workshop is very tidy 👍

Thanks, the video is probably deceptive on that front. I have to keep it reasonably tidy as I use it for jobs that I don't show on video and it also houses our car and two motorbikes when not in use - so I am always tidying up either for the vehicles or for the KZbin stuff.

How about trying to make a proper Router Lift like the commercially available ones? I am just starting out in metal works and want to try making one with accurate height adjustment. Good luck and looking forward to more projects from you

If you had used The Micro Lab router lift design you wouldn't have had to drill any holes in your router base, and it his design will fit any plunge router

Silly me, I didn't label the next episode as part 2, but it can be found at this link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnWUcoicds6EpM0 There is also a part 3 which can be found at: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpjcZZyod7WGm6s Sorry about the lack of labelling, sort of early in my KZbin career and still getting the hang of things back then :-)
