Great quick tip! I actually want to install a dash cam in similar fashion for my wife's car, and it does have a pillar airbags. Thank you for sharing 👍

Second question: Other than taking one to five minutes for a dash cam to start parking-mode for motion detection when using an OBD cable, is there any difference at all between using an OBD and a hard-wired system, particularly when it comes to power consumption and motion-detection abilities? Third question: I'm to the understanding that using a OBD for this purpose can potentially create problems with the car's electronics. The guy from Save Drive Solutions made a video suggesting that it depends how many pins the OBD has. For example, the Iroad OBD cable has only two pins, whereas the provided OBD cable that comes with the U3000 has 8 pins. Although the Iroad is supposed to be compatible with the U3000, he didn't want to, or couldn't, make it clear if the Iroad would negate any essential features in the U300. In other words, are those extra pins in the U3000 for show, or do they provide essential functions, just a little something I thought he should take an extra minute to clarify. Either way, I'm kind of stuck now with what to do, and answers to theses questions would sure help me move forward faster and with more confidence. Thanks.

Great tip especially for liability . Most have no idea how much liability is involved in the trade . 👍

Very helpful. The other videos I’ve found haven’t shown a good way of running wires around airbags.

Hi I put a dashcam in with a hardwire kit and used the fuse for the wipers and I ran the wire though the A plier there are no air bags any where apart for steering wheel and now I have a warning light for airbag system in yellow

Strange coincidence. I'm guessing you bumped something. My guess would be the passenger side air bag connector

I was just...🤔 ... Until 3:16 I have no idea why the child in me wanted to crack up laughing. Interesting stuff and very informative and very important and I was just caught off guard and not expecting a lip flapping noise. 😏😆

What do you think about running it with the rubber sealing in the door?

I'd be worried it would cause the door not to seal correctly

You said any dash cam questions, so here it goes: Scanning KZbin for weeks, I haven't been able to find one "expert" willing and/or capable of definitively answering these questions, which I'll separate into two or three comment sections in order to avoid any possible confusion. So, question one: I thought the whole idea of parking mode, be it hard-wired or with an OBD adaptor, was for the dash cam to essentially turn off and only go on when motion is detected, which would use very little battery power, assuming, of course, there were only a handful of events to activate the motion sensor over a twenty-four hour period. However, many say doing this will drain the battery in hours, even if there are only a few activations over a twenty-four hour period. And as for a cut off switch, or built sensor, that turns off the dash cam when the battery goes too low, this would essentially make the parking mode feature useless because we all know if anything happens, it'll happen when the camera goes off. Moreover, such an useless drain to the battery every night would only lead to what I think they call battery sulfation, kills the cells. I don't want to use a lithium battery pack, especially with the hot temperatures we get for so long, but I have vandalism issues to deal with. So, I need motion detection. I'm thinking of getting the Thinkware U3000 because it apparently uses less power in parking mode. But now I don't know what to " think" Can you or anyone out there tell what the deal is with this?

Maybe upgrade the stock battery and do the big 3 upgrade but definitely check with a local shop first.

The amount of battery drain caused by the camera is small and only while the camera is running. Unless you have constant movement, causing the camera to run constantly, you'll be fine. Don't overtime it beyond that. Hope that helps

Great advice! I have a question... I hardwired my first dashcam. I then got one with dual cameras. The cable was the same so I just plugged the new one in. A lot of the recordings though come up as unplayable due to error or something like that. How important is it to change to the cable that comes with the device?

Niamh Healy. Depends on the brand. I deal soley with DOD Dash Cams. I will say usually read type errors are sd card related. Either the card is bad, not formatted properly or the storage capacity of the card is too big for the camera

Ah okay! Thanks a million for that! It came with a 32. I will try it with a 16 :)

Niamh Healy a 32gb should be fine. Most can handle at least a 64gb. Make sure it's a class 10 or better. And make sure it's a name brand. I prefer Samsung. Stay away from eBay. Lots of phony cards on there

Niamh Healy I agree, quality and class sd card are a must. Also look for MLC nand chips instead of TLC installed on the sd card. one more thing, check for firmware update for the camera.

Thanks! Is there any risk that the airbags deploys while installing a dashcam?

Loaded question. By the book: always power down the vehicle and wait 10 min before working around any air bags. That being said, usually its carelessness that sets off an airbag. Hope that makes sense. Let me know if you need more help
