Good to see it mobile again. On steering box adjustment, the way to do it is to jack the car and get both front wheels in the air. You can then operate the steering wheel while watching for movement in the right wheel. The sweet spot of adjustment you're looking for is minimum play in the steering without adding any stiffness to the feel, which definitely must be avoided. Strange that it got stiff by itself though. I've never heard of that. Check the workshop manual on topping up the steering box oil. Cheers.

Having watched hub nut and your channel for over a year, I've come to the conclusion your channel is better. I think the greater emphasis on repairing your cars makes it more enjoyable. You're closing in on his subs numbers too, so think others agree!

Most of us tune into both channel's, thumbs up to Matt on the tinkering. I think when Hubnut thins out the wreckage he will be able to knuckle down on one project at a time. He is frustratingly unwilling to learn new skills at the moment most likely because his shed has so many non runners.

@@terryatkinson3182 Hubnut's getting a bit too "lifestyle" these days and yes, his lack of willing to learn new skills (never mind welding, I cringe at his electrics) can be frustrating.

Love the Rover 2000. It's my favourite car on the Furious Fleet, with the Crown Victoria a very close second. Great to see it back on the road. I'm not sure about going down the MOT exemption route though. If anything happened and someone was hurt, and it transpires the car has a fault that'd fail an MOT, you'd probably be in whole heap of trouble. £40 for an annual safety inspection is a bargain, and gives peace of mind that you've done everything possible as an owner to ensure the car is fit to be used on the road. I still MOT my Triumph Acclaim, even though technically I don't have to. The free Road Tax is nice though 👍

Wow. Matt absolutely wonderful to see that car out and about. And by your reaction, you really enjoying it too. Can't wait to see a full review of it one day. And yes I think you need to get a less lumpy looking roof rack. Actually get rid of it altogether, it will look good. I think the P6 is one of the best cars this country has produced, certainly in that 60s/70s era. And this the base model right? Probably the TC just gave it that performance edge. If you're into selling that car after you've restored it fully, you're onto a nice little earner.👍

Great to see you enjoying your P6. Nothing like it. Re. the seatbelt. I have found it is usually due to the reel sitting at an angle other than straight. Give it a tap to level it up and it will most likely release and work fine. I had an lovely roof rack with wooden slats (after market but appears in P6 accessories brochure) for my P6B but only put it on for occasional car show as I think it spoils the line of the car and is noisy at speed. As every one else has said, that upholstery is beautiful. 😍

The clack of the gearchange is fantastic - I can imagine the car has incredible feel and a tactility that is completely absent on anything modern, especially new cars. There’s so much to be said about buttons, switches, steering and a gearchange where you feel involved and as one with the car - that is what driving is all about. Great video and so happy to see her up and driving, great video Matt!

100% agree on the road tax situation - there should be a cleverer way... perhaps registering all of your cars on some sort of online portal and paying the highest tax band to cover all of them .. you only use one at a time after all. Great to see the Rover on the road again.

Only use one at a time. My Insurance company takes that into consideration with my small collection of old cars. That makes a lot of sense. However, be careful who you vote for come the next GE. Remember who it was that extended the previous twenty-five year exemption to forty years just when my cars and bikes were coming up to their twentyfifth birthdays. If they extended it again to half a century on the basis that anyone who has an old vehicle is very wealthy and so must pay, many like me wont be around to benefit with that fifty year parameter.

👍Excellent. With a Rover 2000/2200, you have a choice of two sump plugs to choose from for draining oil. One P6 feature I am not keen on is the lack of rack and pinion steering. Though, given all the other brilliant P6 design features, I am happy to overlook this.

great job, l'm glad it was just the adjustment that needed backing off, I wonder what the cause was very strange? Halfords classic oil was something I used on my example, runs absolutely fine and much cheaper than millers oils which I find no better tbh! The headlamp bowls are a known rust spot, the last time I looked jrwadhams sold replacements but this was a few years ago now. Lovely interior, really goes with the white exterior; my own was mexico brown with Sandlewood leather. Another nice combination :)

If the seatbelt is any like the "roll out belts" in my old Volvo 140, then there is a little weight that tilts when turning hard or braking, it moves a thin blade that latches on to a one way cog in the roller, when yanked too many times, that thin blade gets bent and hook into the one way cog far to easy, yanking even harder makes it permanently hooked. All these parts are under the plastic cover on the end of the roller. IF i recall it right!? Straighten the blade gently makes the belt stop getting cought when the car is flat and you want to put it on. Never yank a belt that doesn't want to come out, the car is probable unbalanced or moving, centrifugal forces makes it hook into the cog. try again when it is straight and level.

The interior looks in great condition. Both the Rover and Triumph 2000 seemed to appear at much the same time in the late 60's but the Triumph had a six cylinder engine. Just a heads up, the genuine filter is still available from Land Rover dealers under part number ERR3340. It's not expensive either at around £18.96 incl. VAT, and I suspect it has a non-return valve as when I have a genuine filter the oil pressure light goes out much faster on my Land Rover 2.25 petrol - I retrofitted it to mine as I had the earlier filter. It was also fitted to late 2.25 petrol and diesel engines, 2.5 petrol and diesel, Diesel Turbo, 200Tdi, 300Tdi and Rover V8.

"Safety Inspection?" Why not just get it MOT tested? if it passes, then great. If it fails on minor points, then it is still legal to drive, so long as they are not dangerous. If it fails in a major way, then you are aware of the problems, and being the responsible person that you are, you can rectify them before driving your Rover on the road again. A "Safety Inspection" will cost just as much as a proper MOT test!

Red leather looks superb despite all the years. 1960s P6 pure class. By the way, depress the release button when APPLYING Handbrake. That ratchet noise makes my teeth go on edge. Most user unfriendly and uncool not to do so. What's mechanical sympathy Dad? Shaddup son and get on with your homework. Not a bad ploy to get any old car checked to MoT standards even if exempt. I sometimes do that even when a recently purchased used car has a current MoT. Do it off the DVLA record. That will involve VAT as IIRC, MoT tests is VAT exempt. Back in the 1970s, my boss had a P6 company car. Us lesser types had to make do with a company Cortina or Victor. My MG Montego Turbo will be tax exempt in three years. Unless the Government which extended the previous fairer twenty five year exemption to forty years gets in again. Their ideology being anyone with and old car is obviously an over rewarded BBC disc jockey with a shed load of old Ferraris so MUST pay.
