Hi I have done lots of belts on the K series engine and have had no troubles, admitting they are a bit odd to time up at 90 degrees. i would make sure the crank sprocket is timed up then check the cam sprockets, such as Gates cam blts being a bit off, i have never had one! also check the outside of the belt, some belts have timing lines on the belt!

I just fixed it but it wasn't done conventional, what happens is when I put the tensioner on - the inlet cam is tightened on that side and moves the lines out of line. I found a way very strangely, so the crank and cam lines up perfectly. I know they are correct by looking at number 7 8 head studs, I can't get at them like it should be.

I use a local motor factors for timing belts , water pumps etc. Online has it's place for hard to get stuff / used trim/switches/panels etc but I simply don't trust new service parts. Don't know the supplier , waiting for it to arrive and if it's wrong it's a right palava returning. Motor factors is view before you buy and if it's wrong you take it back, speak to a real person and they can come up with an alternative to compare to. We're obsessed with online buying but I'll always get same/comparable part cheaper buying in person. We're loosing interactive skills too with all this online business too.

Tbh it's not about obsession its convenience especially to me. Time is a massive factor and 95% of the time if you buy the correct part by doing your own cross references then you have no issues. I do miss the Interaction in case of problems but near me it's euro car parts and I've had more issues there than online. Geography makes a difference, if you've got lots of smaller motor factors hour laughing

@@usuallyfixingtinkering Deal very little with Euro Car Parts but they're not cheap anymore. Used to have a good local factors but they've become part of GSF now, so that's a 'see what happens' at the moment. Still got a fully independent one, been around since the 1970's. They've sourced me all sorts of odd bits for a Frontera I had , always competitive on price and will go the extra mile. A rare commodity these days and the 20 mins drive from home is a slight inconvenience but small price to pay for excellent service. Give a shout out to Rays Garage Supplies - Accrington 👍

It looks to me like your cam sprockets are on wrong inlet should be facing inlet and exhaust facing exhaust. If you swap them over timing should line up perfectly 👍

No it's definetly correct, the garage who changed the belt in 2014 must have put those red paint marks on. It's the way they came off thanks to me looking back at my own videos! I've just fixed the issue in a strange manner.

@@usuallyfixingtinkering I know what you mean but if you swapped cam sprockets over the red marks would still line up but the belt would go on easier. You might find turning the engine over is ok but possibly won't fire as the cam timing may be out. If you look at the sprockets it says ex and in, these should be pointing to the inlet for in and exhaust for ex. Hope this helps
